Actually took a day off to spend it with my family as this is the first anniversary of my father-in-law's death. We had a chicken grill lunch I cooked for everyone and a nice time together and a good afternoon. Hope y'all had a great day and got in some good miles.

46 mostly-flat miles this morning on a club Memorial Day ride. Did I mention that it was hot and humid?
Then 4 miles on the Screamer this evening - my stoker's been under the weather and this was our first ride in a couple of weeks.

We showed the tandem some love today. The morning was so cool that we donned base layers, wind vests and arm warmers. Shed them about 1/2 way through the ride, but still...Memorial Day, dressing for March? Most odd.

I rode down to my eldest daughter's house and then we went on a 22 miler into town. Every year they shut half the streets down for the Mayor's Ride, so it was nice to be able to wander about without much fear of traffic. Then I rode back.

My daughters are very attractive, and every now and then I get this "well, she's young enough to be your daughter" vibe, which is funny because she is my daughter. Harrumph.

Almost forgot. My average moving speed was so high I got pulled over and pistol whipped by the cops.

I am envisioning your tongue firmly implanted in your cheek. That, or you're just messing with us.

15 miles today, rode early due to the heat . I saw a groundhog, but no bulky antiques today .

Bikey Mikey 05-29-12 08:29 AM

35 miles this morning.

Not today but 18 on sunday and 20 yesterday on the madison wi cap city trail. this was followed by a visit to the "Brat Fest" an annual Madison event with plenty of brats, music etc. The storm didn't hit until I was just leaving town!

Just got back from a ride before the afternoon thunderstorm hits us:thumb:. The wind was a little gusty as a quartering west cross wind. High temps and humidity ahead of the quick drop and rumblies the whole way. Now the temp drops :twitchy:.

My legs asked for a day off and I told them to shut up, and proceeded to do this. Worth the pain and effort, for sure. And the weather cooperated nicely.

10 miles today, but nothing fantastic or amazing here on the prairie .

The cool thing about Strava, BTW, is that it lets you visit the cyclist's area via google street view. Some folks cycle in gorgeous scenery, others spend time in what looks like God-forsaken wilderness to me.

At least with the prairie you don't have to mess with all those trees blocking your view.

10 miles yesterday afternoon that turned into evening.... my wife's first "night ride." She said she needs a better headlight. I think she's starting to understand all the money I spent on bike gear a few years back when I was starting.

12.4 miles this morning before work, @ 19.3 mph. Yesterday was 12.2 @ 18.9. The .2 difference is whether I catch a green light at a major intersection.

My goal is to average 20+

This is a trick question, right? How does a stoplight change the distance by .2? Is that .2 parsecs?

JanMM 05-30-12 07:06 PM

19.65 commuting miles today at 15.3 mph. A whole buncha stoplights along the way.

We had much needed rain, actually thunderstorms with a lot of lightning, this afternoon. Too hard a rain, and too much lightning, to ride and take a chance on crashing. The rain is a blessing for our area and I'll trade a day off for the bit we got.

35 miles, actually 35.4 and again, at my best overall avg, 17.7mph--probably would've been 17.8 as an avg if I hadn't had to slow down a few times for cars and a school bus plus a couple of stops.

az_cyclist 05-31-12 09:25 AM

12.4 @ 18.8 this morning. Didnt feel quite a strong, and caught too may lights to ave above 19

Timtruro 05-31-12 05:44 PM

Been trying to build up distance over the last two months. Today the longest so far, 34 miles and felt good.

A fine ride, 45 miles, under sunny skies and light winds and sunlight dancing on the water of the salt ponds in the early part of my ride in the Tiverton and Westport area. Since I hope to do one or more short tours this summer, I loaded the panniers onto the bike about half loaded. Very low traffic this morning also which made for a very peaceful riding. Watched two young men surfing at the Westport town beach while I had a bite. By afternoon, I stopped at a bake shop and had a blueberry turnover but there were many other equally good choices. I need to do some hills on practice rides because New Hampshire or Vermont will certainly have them. Last summer I loaded the panniers up once in about July. The full load, including cooking gear, sleeping bag and tent, clothes, tools etc, but excluding food and water came to 19 pounds.
