20 miles today and it rained for the whole ride.

Bikey Mikey 03-11-13 04:57 AM

Well, the plan was to do 33 miles this am before my sub assignment. I was slow and my legs just weren't there after the 71 miles yesterday. I did 25 miles this am instead.

richyankee 03-11-13 07:00 AM

first ride of the season - 5.4 miles, and a pulled muscle. At least I'm riding again... (40 degrees and sunny)

I would have posted this yesterday (Saturday), but my hard drive crashed. On Saturday I rode a whopping 4.38 miles on a nice warm sunny day. I am currently recovering from aortic valve replacement surgery (in December) and attending cardiac rehab sessions at the hospital. I was finally cleared to begin riding, as long as I start gradually. So, hopefully there will be more posts of longer and longer mileage!

Pete

4.38 miles sounds fantastic and it's so much better than 0. Glad to see that you are still wanting to ride after have your cardiac surgery. Most people would use that as an excuse not to do anything more than watch TV. Keep on riding and I'll be watching for your posts.

68 miles on the club ride on Saturday, then 38 yesterday.

John_V 03-11-13 04:15 PM

No ride today. Started a few, "quick" projects this morning and none of them turned out to be very quick. They say we have a 70% change of rain tomorrow, so I'm not sure if I'll get a chance to ride.

Looking up in SE Michigan! Yesterday was 40 degrees, 34 or so wind chill, overcast but no precip. Wife and I went out for a smooth-hills 8-miler, just to get our legs moving - this was after 1.5 hours of Iyengar yoga - we did that in about 1.1 hours - slow, but it's a start. Today the temps were up to 50s, not much wind, but scary radio forecasts of fog, rain, and sleet. Intellicast forecast 30% precip all day and it was sunny so we went out - 8.7 miles, 1.3 hours, lot's more hill content. Legs had by this time recovered from Saturday, so the riding went real well.

Rained all day today. Didn't even get a chance for a short neighborhood ride. Sunshine and 0% chance of rain for tomorrow.

36 miles after work. Gotta love DST. Averaged about 16 mph going out 24 miles and then 24+ mph on the way back in. March winds........

Mort Canard 03-12-13 07:54 PM

20 miles after work today on the local bike paths. A little chilly with 52 degrees and brisk north wind.

JanMM 03-12-13 08:23 PM

A whopping six mile ride after work. Snowed a couple of hours later.

Still recovering from the virus from hell but managed to get out 3 of the last 4 days. Rode the same 20 mile loop with 1200' of climbing both Sat, 1:40 with a small group and Sun, 1:15 solo. I then joined the first LBS Tuesday Night Ride of the year today. Good thing the guys took it easy. I mostly hung second wheel behind a couple Cat 1 riders until the pace quickened in the sprint zones. 24 miles and 1200' of climbing in 1:25.

Yesterday's rain brought some cool morning temps that were just right for a bike ride. Got 35 windy miles at the MUP this morning with tomorrow looking to be the same.

Bikey Mikey 03-13-13 05:07 PM

35 miles today after a sub job.

Earlier this week, I boasted how great it has been to ride home on warm, clear starry nights. I even opined that I'd get a good view of comet PanSTARRS this week while doing so.

Well, the weather has changed. My ride in this morning was a fogfest.

Serves me right. No comet viewing for me!

To my bike club for service and replacement of chain and rear cog as well as jockey wheels.

Then into town to buy a DVD for my partner but the lad who went to find it said there werent any.

All in all about 12 miles or so.

Cold windy day with some rain.

A good 31 miles at the wilderness MUP with the wife today. She actually ended up doing 16 and gave up at the end of the first lap as she hasn't ridden in almost two months. Very windy, sinuses wouldn't quit running and I forgot to put my knee brace on before the ride. Knee started bothering me during my second lap so I cut the ride short by four miles.

If anyone is keeping score...I got in about an hour on the Bertin today. No, it doesn't have a computer. But I do have a watch. It was cold, about5 35degF, with a strong northwest wind.

24.7 miles here in central Texas (think I should have rode up the street just to make it an even 25). The temp was great but the wind going out sucked. I've converted a nice old lugged frame Trek 930 with a no--suspension fork to a city cruiser/commuter with WTB 1.85 slicks. It's for sure no road bike but it's as fast as I am and a blast to ride. Steel is great but I may have to rethink the seat. Lol

Don't see how you guys do the wind AND the cold. I don't mind fighting the wind but my skinner little body doesn't retain enough heat to do both. When the temp gets in the 40s with wind I start looking like Michelin man, then I can't ride.

Balaclava, thick-ish bike gloves with complete fingers, thermal fleece top and bottom, sometimes Smartwool socks, thick rain jacket that blocks wind very well, outdoor activity all winter to become acclimatized. Then ride hard to generate body heat!

I confess it was a bit cold today.

Upper 40s and sunny is about perfect. I need just a bit more than a summer kit, arm warmers and knee or leg warmers. Maybe a light vest too depending on the wind.

Mort Canard 03-14-13 07:53 PM

Yep! Had to, it's PIE DAY!!!!!! :D 24mi. and cheesecake!
