Wife wanted to ride around the neighborhood today, so I took the hybrid and we did a nice 5 mile ride together. Very enjoyable and her first ride in almost two months.
No, I did not ride today. I worked and then shoveled 16 inches of heavy wet snow.

Rode from the National Cycle Centre to Hollingworth Lake today, 54 miles in total if the ride to and from the venue is included.
The actual ride was 32 miles mostly along canal towpath thankfully not as uphill as the ride leader suggested. Set off about 10:10 am as one rider didnt show and we waited for him and should have been back around 2 pm ish but due to three punctures one to rider and then a rider who had joined us for the first time. Other riders pitched in to help him fix it and after spending nearly half an hour taking it in turns trying to pump his tyre up finally found another puncture which was soon repaired. The weather was light rain on and off and cold but not as bad as forecasted tho the clouds were lowering at the lake when we arrived there so we only stayed long enough to have a drink and bite to eat before heading back. The ride leader had intended to ride at a speed of 11 miles an hour but a rider developed a problem with his rear hub which had seized somehow and he was having serious trouble pedalling at any speed and when he went downhill and stopped pedalling his bike slowed right down. He said it was like he was pedalling up a steep hill all the time even tho it was mostly downhill on the way back. We stopped and waited for him at intervals which meant we didnt get back till 4 pm but it was still a brilliant ride and one I will definitely do again!:thumb: |
Did a 60 mile charity ride, on the Suncoast Trail, to benefit Alzheimer today. Started off a bit cool but warmed up into the 70's pretty quick.
Cut it back to 70 miles but that included 7200' of climbing
Stoker talked me into a short ride in and around our neighborhood on the Screamer - 4 miles but the first tandem ride of 2013.
Then I went out later for a 22 mile ride - mostly rural with some climbing mixed in with the flat stuff. Upper 40's and dry with just a little sun at times. Nice. |
NO!!! 40 to 55 mph winds and snowing, not a day for a bicycle, jmho!!
Loaded up for an overnighter and rode 15 miles out to my camping spot. Spent a little over an hour then headed home. The objecives of todays ride were to put in 30+ miles loaded, see my property, and look for steelhead in the creek.
Best day of the year so far, looks like crappy weather is due here tomorrow and Monday. http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/...ps55873f4e.jpg |
10 miles in to town and return.

Rode the Solvang century today, a unique combination of some of the worst roads (headwind headwind headwind) followed by some of the most beautiful roads (foxen canyon) I have ever seen.
Only did 11 miles. I had planned on 30 or 40, but the second toe on my left foot which I bruised badly a bit ago was hurting and I didn't want to aggravate it.
Rode the Solvang 100K on the tandem. About all I can say is we finished. Must have been 30 miles of headwind and a decent amount of climbing, the last one having the worst road conditions I've encountered on a "maintained" road. I ride dead end ranch roads (climbs) that are in better condition., Decent weather save for the wind, but the rest stops are lame for such a large ride.
67 mi today, 86 mi yesterday. Both rides in high winds.
245 mi for the week. |
Ugh. Remind me that it's not good to ride only once a week. Because of weather (mainly wind) and work (also wind) I hadn't ridden since last Saturday. So with the nice weather I hit the roads planning to do any easy-ish 50 miles or so. Instead I took the long way home and ended up doing 90 miles. Hardly any climbing, beautiful conditions, and I still ended up being completely fried at the end.
Rode from home to DC, across the river, out to Potomac and Whites Ferry, crossed the river, and back from Leesburg mainly on the bike path. |
Rare burst of March sunshine.
20 something km, avoiding the trails, which are still muddy. Bike still got filthy. |
No ride. This was the best day of the year in the NJ area.Sunshine,no wind, low 50's.Hard to believe we just had 5 inches of snow.Any way told the bride I would go shopping with her.How was I to know all the snow would have melted by noon.Chalk it up to marriage insurance.

Fantastic weather today for a 20 mile ride with the Sunday Bicycler's Group. Nice recovery ride from yesterday's 100K charity ride.
10 miles indoors due to heavy rains
44 miles from Yorktown to Jamestown and back along the Colonial Parkway. Stoped in at the Jamestown Pie Company for a coke and Blackberry-Peach pie," Because round food is good food." All in all a very nice day
Ten miles this morning. Sixty degrees!!
71 miles today. Delt with a headwind for at least 1/2 the ride which got worse as the hours wore on. Wind started out at around 6mph and after about a third of the ride, the winds were at 12 mph steady. The last 30 miles seemed to be a struggle. I need to get in more days if I want to be ready for these upcoming centuries.
Nice day for a change, very little wind, mid 40's. Set my goal high at 15 miles (haven't ridden since January). Legs really felt it, but a nice ride in the Great Swamp.
9 miles with my 10 year old son. Imparting "sharing the road with traffic" and MUP courtesy knowledge.
I would have posted this yesterday (Saturday), but my hard drive crashed. On Saturday I rode a whopping 4.38 miles on a nice warm sunny day. I am currently recovering from aortic valve replacement surgery (in December) and attending cardiac rehab sessions at the hospital. I was finally cleared to begin riding, as long as I start gradually. So, hopefully there will be more posts of longer and longer mileage!

Did a 45 mile loop around the hood today. Beautiful!
