Got in a couple of nice rides in Williamsburg, VA over the weekend. 65 on Saturday, and 61 on Sunday. They got a lot more snow down there last week than at home, so the roads were pretty schmutzy with sand and slushy in a few places. Still it was very nice. I ended up having to walk the bike for about half a mile through the slush when I took a route I knew was closed over a bridge. Going over the bridge was no problem, but the unplowed roads on either side were a mess. On Sunday I took the ferry over to Surry county, and rode out to Smithfield, Ham Capital of the World. I skipped the ham and had a chocolate muffin instead.

Great pics Biker395!

I had 28.6 @ 17.2 ave yesterday. I need to remember that if I ride this route as a recovery ride, I should ride it in the opposite direction than I did yesterday

52 miles yesterday. It was 40 to 45 F most of the way. It was warm.

It was so great to be out in the fresh air - I loved it!

Best regards

The above was Thursday. I rode another 12 or 13 miles on Friday when it was a balmy mid-40's temperature! Saturday I did my "old man" workout with weights, followed by a short 1 mile walk.

Yesterday morning, i.e. Sunday, I got out there first thing for 13 miles or so, and while somewhat chilly, 35 or 36 degrees, there was virtually no wind and very little vehicular traffic. What a great sport and activity!

Unfortunately we had another significant snowfall today, and predictions are for a larger one next week-end. Yikes, what a winter!

Best regards

Nice 35 mile ride this morning in some very nice weather. Very foggy start but blue skies all the way after the fog burned away. Temps in the upper 70's to low 80's.

30 miles total in two different rides - both of which got rained out. :(

az_cyclist 02-07-14 08:26 AM

16.1 miles @ 19.8 ave (Strava, Garmin Connect had 20.0.. .difference in moving time).

John_V 02-07-14 06:08 PM

No ride yesterday or today due to being rained out both days. Somehow we're not living up to our name of "The Sunshine State."

The last two days I did about 40 miles each day. Kind of pooped out. Today spouse and I rode with a group from the rv park at a nice stately pace along the Rillito "river" trail. We did about 22 miles, my spouse's longest ride yet. It was much fun.

Couldn't take another day without riding and certainly did not want to get on the trainer. Got out this morning for a very damp and cold 33 mile ride. Well worth it!

Did 51 miles today with a lousy lung infection that I thought was over last Saturday but came back. 2500 feet of climbing at 16.3 mph avg. Great weather with some sun and temps from 53 to 63 deg. Quite a bit of wind which seemed there all the time even though the ride was a loop. Tomorrow is a 70 mi. club recovery ride. I did review the results on Strava and developed 1025 watts for 1 second. Now if I can find a 2 foot TT I'm set, lol.

58 miles today with 3000 ft of climbing which was last minute impulse. My wife suggested I ride and meet her at her in laws which I instantly agreed to but was chasing daylight. Temps were really nice at 55 degrees, no clouds nor wind anywhere which was very, very unusual.

Recovery was Mex fod and TWO pitchers of margaritas.........oh my.

50 miles on a beautiful Florida day. Such a total difference from a crappy yesterday.

jppe 02-09-14 06:01 PM

35 miles on a sunny day in Piedmont NC, but winds were much more of a factor today.

John_V 02-10-14 12:17 PM

Only had time for a short 30 mile ride this morning. Needed to get back in time for an eye doctor's appointment; checking to see how my post cataract lens is doing.

wthensler 02-10-14 06:06 PM

42 miles on Saturday in damp, misty weather west of Gainesville, and 32 on Sunday in picture perfect northern FL weather. My only regret is that I can't get out as much as I'd like because of work. I rarely run out of lungs or legs, it's the lack of saddle time that I feel after several hours.

I had a great ride today. I loaded my bike into my pickup and hauled it 50 miles from my town to a small town named Adin, CA. On Map Source I plotted out a 30 mile loop that circled Big Valley. I only had one car pass me from behind on the first 25 miles of the loop and then three or four cars passed me from behind the last 8 miles. I'm not complaining. It was so nice not having to worry about traffic, in fact, I spent most of the time riding down the middle of the road (only because it was the smoothest of the pavement. Temps were in the mid 40's, partly cloudy and a very light breeze, perfect riding conditions. The terrrain was mostly flat with a total elevation climb of 700 feet. I averaged 15 mph, which is good for me. Most of the elevation rises and falls were in the last half of the loop. I will try to include a map with the photos. The starting elevation was 4100 feet above sea level. Here are my pictures.

The last photo was taken at an earlier date, but I wanted to show this wonderful small town store that I just love. It is such a throw back to earlier times in this farming community. They have a great deli section and tables inside and out to sit down and eat. The orange Triumph Tiger is mine.

John_V 02-11-14 02:55 PM

Got in a great 44 mile ride today at the park. Winds picked up during the last half of my last lap but the rest of the ride was good. Legs a bit sore today, so it's out with the rollers while I watch NCIC tonight.

az_cyclist 02-14-14 08:50 AM

16.1 miles @ 19.1 ave in a lunchtime ride yesterday

John_V 02-14-14 02:57 PM

Nice 35 miles in an almost empty MUP this morning. Started off a bit chilly but quickly warmed up to great short sleeve weather.

Ron,

I thought you just bought a new house in Hernando? Is this a second home or are you moving out of Florida?

RonH 02-14-14 03:45 PM

John, that quote is from June 2009 when we first started house hunting in north GA.

We're in FL for good -- or at least until its time to move to the assisted living home.

Haven't been outside riding in about two weeks and prospects aren't looking good. We just got 18" snow over two days and more predicted tomorrow with temps dipping to 15 F tomorrow night. Also, our state ran out of salt. On the plus side, the gym's been busy and there's plenty of spin classes.

Gotcha!

Nice change of pace from the MUP ride this morning. Went and did a leisurely 20 mile ride with my Saturday cycling group through some of the older neighborhoods of Tampa and then contrasted that with the really upper-class neighborhoods of Davis Islands. Stopped by Derek Jeeter's house, while we were on the island, but didn't get invited in. I swear, some people. :D
