It's finally gotten above freezing, although unlike the east coast haven't had any snow to speak of in a while. Rode a short 15 mile loop this afternoon which sure beats riding the trainer one more day!
Dreaming of warmer temperatures - coming soon! http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=364516 |
Great ride this morning with John and Richard. We did the usual starting at the trail head at 8 am with cloudy skies and a chill in the air.
We took a coffee break at Panera then headed out International to Wayside with the wind gusting to 23 mph from the west and north west ( right in our face). From Wayside we turned west to Orange then south to Sylvan Lake Road. It was pretty much a head wind all the way across Sylvan Lake so we just took what the head wind would give us. From Sylvan Lake we road out to the Fox Spur loop then headed back to the trail head for a break. After our break we took Markham Woods Road all the way back to the 434 tunnel. From Panera out to Fox Spur and back to the 434 tunnel is 23 miles and our average for that segment was 14.7 mph. Considering the head wind that we encountered that is not to bad for the old guys. With that being said Rich was on his mtn bike and he could have buried us at any time, golly it would be great to be 20 years younger. |
Actually I did ride today. I just finished building my track racing bike and couldn't wait to try it, so I test rode it in the snow. It was scary but fun, and I lived to tell the tale.

Very nice 73 miler under clear blue sunny skies. Lots of snow still around from this week.
|
Got in a meager 15 miles on the tail end of a sort-lived cold. Between the cold and a very busy stretch of work the last two weeks has been a shambles cycling-wise, but I've turned the corner. Hereabouts we've got two months before the serious organized ride season begins and I don't think I'm going to be in shape for the Century version, but I should be able to do all but the very toughest 100Ks.

We had a really nice day here so I went on a nice 20 miler. What's killing me is that I decided not to get passed as much as I usually do so I had the pedal to the metal for most of the ride. Man, am I tired.

What a perfect day for a ride. Nice 50 mile ride at the MUP this morning. Got home and the wife wanted to go ride around the neighborhood. 5 miles with her for a total of 55 miles today.

Rode about 15 miles today - the roads were a little slick in places after the freezing rain we had last night. Coming down this hill was a tad bit more exciting!
http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3822/1...823f086d_c.jpg Unfortunately my ride terminated prematurely with a mechanical that my multi-tool could not fix. Embarrassed to say that I didn't tighten my pedals well enough when I installed them a few weeks ago and all of a sudden felt my right foot wobble on the pedal. Very strange feeling when you're clipped in. Partially damaged the threads - but hopefully with a friends pedal tap tool will be able to fix it. The silver lining in all of this - got to spend a peaceful 20 minutes looking out over the lake while I waited for my wife to come and pick me up. :) |
Rode thirty four miles today. A head wind kicked my butt for the first 16 miles, then pushed me for the next 12 miles but I had small climbs that kept my speeds down. It wasn't my best speed and time, but I was very pleased and it was a good workout.

61.4 on the club ride Saturday, at 15.1 ave. 28.8 yesterday @ 19.1 ave.

Did a couple miles doing this

Nice 35 mile ride in near 80* temps. Wife came with me and did 8 miles. I would have done more but didn't want her waiting on me longer than what she had to.
|
43 miles today on a LONG lunch break! Hey, it was sunny and 61 degrees! I would have been too distracted at work anyway.

Sun came out and it hit 40 F today which made me pine for a ride but the roads are still impassable for bikes. There's so many huge piles of snow at intersections and cars parked partly in the streets that just driving is hazardous. There's no way I would go out on my bike yet.
This guy on my block has had this car under snow for a week already. Maybe with some rain and warmer temps this weekend he'll get it out: http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=365028 |
Nice 25 miles on a cool (60deg) day. Riding has been very irregular, but I'm back in the saddle.
|
No ride yesterday. Went to Tarpon Springs, FL to get our taxes done. Normally the wife and I will drop off the paperwork and then hit the Pinellas Trail, which is a block from the tax lady's office. She wasn't up to riding yesterday so we took a walk along the sponge docks, had lunch and browsed the specialty stores. Today was a great 44 mile ride on another fantastic Florida day.
|
Finally! FINALLY!, after being off the bike for 23 days I got a ride in--26 miles. I wanted to do more but I also didn't want to push it after being off so long.
|
16.1 miles @ 18.9 ave (Strava, Garmin Connect had 19.2) in a lunchtime ride.
|
Wanted to ride this afternoon, but heavy rains and thunderstorms were in the forecast. Fortunately, it was at a rideable temp at 04:30 today. Unfortunately, this meant I couldn't do the longer ride I wanted, but did 26 miles.
|
I rode yesterday. It was cold and wet with patches of ice here and there. Once I had to dismount to navigate the ice. Then... last night it rained and the wind blew. This morning the rain had stopped but the wind kept blowing. By noon the roads were dry with only some scattered puddles.... but the winds remained with pretty strong gusts.
By 1PM I couldn't take it any longer. I decided I'd rather deal with the wind gusts... than the easy chair. And the ride was awesome! I am so glad to see winter coming to an end. |
31.5 miles in balmy (70deg) temps.
