April Fool ride on the Screamer with my favorite stoker - 12 miles in beautiful upper 60's sunny late afternoon.
|
First Time Trial of the year at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Great turnout and just perfect weather. We even had an Italian decorated rider that rode. He beat me by 6 1/2 minutes over 10 miles!

Wednesday, 25.1 miles, very nice riding weather, still having blustery winds.
Bill |
Got in 12 tandem miles this evening in between showers/storms. Pouring down rain now. But warm.
|
I did my first commute of the year, 32 mile round trip. Temps were in the upper 20's when I started, 50's when I came home. The ride home was windyyyyyy!
|
A good 45 mile ride today. Even got some nice intervals in and two good sprints.
|
Started out for 20 mi and ended up at 35. Fantastic bike day.
|
13 miles yesterday on the single speed. I'm beginning to really enjoy riding that bike! Not to worry, the other bikes will not be neglected. Once the heat comes I'll be looking for a few extra gears.

I finally got to ride my new road bike. Only 20 miles but there was a constant 22mph SSE wind.
The ride was awesome. |
First outdoor ride of 2015 today. 27 miles on the Siena in 55 degree weather. Man it's been a long Winter (and snow is in the forecast, dang it).
It's nice not being a wheezy fat guy at season start. 1500 trainer miles this Winter. |

Looks like a post card photo! Very nice.

put in an hour on the Trek/Graber yesterday, about11 miles , in the back room ... raining, and doing the same today, GROUCHY, can you tell?
|
Hot, humid and windy! Still, a good day for a new 50 mile ride. Wind just wouldn't let up on the last 8-10 miles so it wasn't the best segment of the ride.
|
Another 35 miler, bit warm but otherwise a great bike kinda day.
|
22 miles on the Minuteman Bikeway and Fitchburg Extension. Spy Pond is still frozen.

March is gone but the winds are still here. Gusty and overcast Thursday but I got in 10 miles on the Roubaix.
Had errands this am (Fri) but took advantage of the sunshine in the afternoon for 9.9 miles on the trike. Such a major difference between the two styles of riding (2 up vs 3 recumbent wheels :recum:), but I wouldn't give either of them up. 2015 (Apr 3): 959 Miles—70 Days—91 hrs ♂ Weekly Avg: 99 2013 to Present: 5,845 Miles—392 Days—479 Hrs Compromise means I'll get my way and you'll find a way to be okay with that. |
Another short ride on the Siena today (27 miles, give or take). I'm breaking myself in on a rather more radical position than last season (3" drop to top of bars) and a new set of aero bars. Visions of real speed and time trialing. Spent a lot of time this Winter on those low aero bars on my trainer, but was a little nervous about taking it on the road. I'm stoked: I can actually ride the mothers! My neck's a little sore, but it'll get better!

The field looked great to ride across. Freedom! No traffic! Then I hit thick mud. The wheels spun, but I stayed up. Muscled it back to the road. Then came the fun part. Going down a steep hill, the mud started flinging off in an incredible shower. Hit every part of me, the road, small children, dogs... Well, maybe not dogs. Exhilarating experience for an old road bike guy.
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=442344 27 miles today on the SS - Tombay #3 for 2015. Finally rode with someone who could out ride me up the hills (20 years younger, 45 lbs lighter and he was riding his 20 spd - I'm not making excuses am I?). I broke the chain while standing on the pedals on one of the steeper climbs. Over the handlebars I went. First time over the bars on a road bike. I pulled out the mini-tool with the chain break, fixed the chain and off we went. I'll have to have a chat with my mechanic - me - about the chain. |
28 miles with a fellow mountain biker friend. From Hollywood to Hallandale Beach to Hollywood Beach. Great ride, dodging peds on the bike path as usual. I'm getting a 140 db horn. Still breaking in my new xc racer.

Lazy, That isn't a Tombay fall, those have to be caused by clipless pedals, sorry about the chain, though.
Bill I do ride clipless on the single speed. Yes, not the typical situation where on account of being clipped in you fall over sideways. I suppose technically #1 and #2 this year weren't either. Both a result of standing on the pedals up a hill where the road was wet/slick and lost traction with the rear wheel. As for the chain - it'll live another day. I was more upset with the scar in the new bar hood I put on the Gran Compe levers. The road rash on the hand I put out to break the fall will heal, as will the very sore wrist. This sky is a beautiful blue this morning, planning to ride with the Mrs along the lake. :) |
Another great 50 mile ride today. Rode with two of my riding buddies on a new route that turned out to be very nice. May include it in my saved routes to do again some time.
|
Today's ride was dictated by the weather, predicted to be windy with gusts pushing 50mph. So I figured it'd be best to stay sheltered. What better route than the Nashua River Rail Trail (NRRT)? So we drove out to the southern end in Ayer, put all our stuff plus ourselves on the tandem, and headed north into the wind counting on a tailwind for the return. We didn't get far before the trail was completely covered over with snow and ice. So we turned around, went back to the car and drove home. Round trip 0.35 miles.
On the drive home we went past Fern's General store in Carlisle, a guaranteed favorite cycling hangout. There was no bike to be seen in their racks. |
Eleven miles late this afternoon. Second ride of the year wearing shorts.
