Well I finally got outside today for a very short ride, just 10 miles because of time constraints. It hit 54 degrees here and next week is shaping up to be potentially outdoor riding weather. Sure could feel the difference in riding outside after spending the winter indoors on a stationary bike. Wish I had had more time but grateful to get out for a first 2025 ride. Be well all!

how much indoor riding did you do - and do you feel it helped ?

Yes! I was able to ride for over 25 minutes. Many may think that’s not very long, it’s not. But, I’m breaking in a new Brooks B17. I did some tweaking this morning and the ride is so much better!

so my back story is that I had both knees replaced last year so a lot of my indoor cycling was rehab more than anything else. Over this winter I have been on the indoor trainer 60+/- minutes and 14-15 miles. Obvious differences would be no wind and hill climbs are not quite the same. Also have been doing some work on an erg. My riding outside has been fairly consistent, both pre and post surgery, at 15-25 miles 3 time a week, all on different bike paths. Hope that helps.
good luck with those new knees :) |

Rode my (previously normal) 20 mile former commuting loop today; if I'd thought about it, I'd have gone the other way, so I had 4 miles of unblocked headwind. OTOH, didn't have to deal with "Schools out!" which made it pretty nice. Heavy overcast, but warm and no precipitation today. :) Re new saddle: uh-uh. Took the bike with the old, broken-in saddle today for the longer ride. Lovely! |
80° and high thin clouds with a very light breeze. A perfect day to ride. Took a loop around our local lake.
We are having another cold front tonight with rain tomorrow but that is just springtime- it’s here in Texas! |

I have never fallen over from a lack of unclipping. Even when I first rode clipless, I never had a problem unclipping when stopping. Until today. A beautiful 45 miles round trip along Hwy 101. Traffic was light and so was the wind. Not my normal choice of routes, but something different. I pulled into the yard and turned to point the bike at the bike stanchion and went over. Landed hard on my left shoulder and knocked over some cement creatures. No harm to the bike, just my ego. I still bounce pretty good for 78 years :)

Today, I did my Birthday Ride to celebrate turning 58 tomorrow (or the day after depending what part of the world you're in).Warm with strong sea breeze. I did 58 km + 1 for good measure. 😀 Happily, I've lost 5 kg since my January 60 km ride which made things a bit easier. Still tiring, but easier.Distance: 59.02 km Elevation: 230 m Moving Time: 3:07:50 Elapsed Time: 3:27:57 Calories: 944 ……………….. Avg …………….. I was able to get out yesterday for 22 miles. I went on different roads than usual. The weather was beautiful for riding.

greeted with this this morning :(
but warmer temps forecast for later today and tomorrow - so hoping most of the snow is gone by tomorrow to get a ride in https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ab3aefc0e.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...df1de8529.jpeg |
I rode to the bike store this morning for a new water bottle cage as the one on my bike broke. I was able to find a 19 mile bike ride on a different route. The temp was in the mid 60's when I left the house. Great riding weather.

61 miles with 2500’ of climbing. Been raining a fair amount lately but today was beautiful.

I did ride today - around Brown's Ranch in Scottsdale's McDowell-Sonoran Preserve, Arizona.
I often ride my mountain bike on these trails, but I decided to take out my hybrid, which has 27.5 x 2.0" hybrid tires (Bontrager Zero Comp), on some granite trails today. The Dual Sport hybrid is more compact, lighter weight, and more nimble than the mountain bike. Quite fun to ride on light-to-moderate mountain trails, chip seal roads, as well as on bike paths. (I'm not one who feels the need for a front shock or full suspension much of the time. I find that a good rigid bike can be as much fun as, or even more fun than one with suspension! It all depends on where and how you like to ride.) Nice view toward 4 Peaks, in the Mazatzal mountain range, to the east. Brief system dropped some snow on the Mazatzals yesterday. Temps were in the low 70's today. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...351f72d4_k.jpg One of the trails going up the mountain side got pretty steep in parts, with a lot of rock in some sections... not exactly an ideal trail for the hybrid tires on my bike. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...1fbc7d11_k.jpg I ride pretty sensibly on tricky rock garden sections - I'm too old to tempt falling! But I could descend through most (not all) of the rock gardens, as long as I just stayed low and back on the bike, within my comfort zone speed-wise, and picked my lines with some care. I am about to order new rims so I can go tubeless, with a set of 2.0" wide Pirelli Cinturato Gravel M tires, which can easily handle these trails and also be quick and smooth on gravel and pavement. I also have a Shimano Deore M5100 drive train group set in bound to take me to 11-speed, with a 51T granny cog for climbing steep trails. This bike will soon be a super-Dual Sport. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...7ee605dd_k.jpg Most of the single track trails here are hard pack crushed granite, with some sections of curves and through washes with loose crushed granite over hard pack. You can get some really fun speed going on a lot of the trails. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...0e9d95a6_k.jpg Glistening cholla plants framing cinder cone https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...1c4a37ad_k.jpg The Dual Sport 2 Gen 5 is a pretty capable bike with the right 2" wide tires, light and quick on pavement and surprisingly capable on the trails, given some riding skill and good sensibility. It's no downhill rock garden speed-monster... but neither am I. https://www.bikeforums.net/images/smilies/wink.gif https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...e1c851c9_k.jpg Horses for riders, horses for courses. |
We had a beautiful sunny 73° day here in north Texas, very light breeze, low humidity. I really couldn’t ask for better riding weather.
Working on building up stamina but one 6 mile loop around the lake felt easy. |
Wife and I got out for 12 miles this morning.
As mentioned above by pepperbelly, one of the nicest days we've had in quite a while. For the last week or so, it's either been high winds accompanied by west Texas dust, or storms that dropped small hail that looked like sleet, and piled up into 'drifts' in my general area. Geesh.......!! |
Nice easy ride along my regular route. Only did about 30 miles due to threatening weather moving in. Don't mind the rain, wind, cold, but lightening makes my hair stand on end which tends to ruin the whole macho biker look. Oh wait, I wear a helmet, duh

64 degrees here in Southern New England today so I got out for a 15 mile ride. With the exception of the wind, 15-20mph, it felt great to be back outside. Certainly need to rebuild my fitness but all in all just a nice afternoon. Be well all.

Raleigh shakedown ended in a breakdown. Crescent to the rescue!

My brother dropped me off in St. Petersburg Fl and I rode back to Clearwater FL. I thought the ride would be 27 miles it turned to be only 18 miles. Though the good part was that I was riding into the wind for the first 12 miles along the Pinellas trail, then the ride turned east and it was easier, no wind.

49 miles with 2600 feet of climbing. A little colder and windier than I was expecting but what a pretty day!
