Bronx to Briarcliff Manor and back, easy spinning with my old bud. We planned on going further north but the trail was too icy.

I was out riding early this morning and rode for 16 miles. My eyeglasses were in my bike bag and one lens had fallen out. So I had to bring th to be fixed and they were able to fix the glasses.

Still riding indoors, even though the weather is good enough to get outside, but my riding partner is still dealing with back issues and I don't like to ride solo.
Set a new PR on a KOM! 551st out of 567 riders! Zwift Hub was kicking my butt on the climb, and my knee doesn't tolerate pushing a lot of watts. I ended up making a U-turn at the top after finishing the route and soft pedaling back down to finish up with 14.22 miles.

36 miles with 1500' of climbing and a 16mph average, which is good for this slow old man.

50PlusCycling 02-28-25 02:44 AM

135km today, it was actually more, but I forgot to start Strava until several km into the ride. It was a great day for a ride, 16 degrees C, the warmest day of the season so far, and no wind. I managed to average almost 21kph, which is pretty good as much of the ride was in metro Tokyo, and a some was on trails out in the countryside. I had to hustle a bit so I wouldn’t be late to meet my daughter’s school bus in the afternoon.

I got out at 10:00 am this morning and rode for 21 miles. The riding conditions today were spectacular.

My wife and I got out for 12 miles today. She's slowly regaining her stamina.
I'm hoping to get her back into the routine of daily rides, even if they're relatively short rides.

2nd ride 56.00 miles
3rd ride 12.77 miles

I got 3 joyful rides while the weather broke but now it's 22 F and I'm back on the hamster wheel. :notamused:

Yesterday, before the storm rolled in, I went down to John Nicholas Trail, Saratoga. Second time riding it, but I did it in reverse this time, starting up at Castle Rock area. Had cool chats with nice riders at various break benches yesterday. Met this Rivendell rider who zoomed past me when I was at another bench - big probs to him! I caught up to him at the lookout at the top of JNT. I was spent after negotiating a few rocks down there, not typical for me. Fun day! After the ride, a few miles up the road I pulled over to look at this sunset, ended up being a hiking trailhead for Long Ridge.

Yeah, I did! I wasn’t planning to, but the weather was too perfect to resist — that cool breeze and just the right amount of sun. I grabbed my bike, clipped on my Gaciron V20C-400 Bike Light (just in case I lost track of time), and set off. The roads were quiet, and there’s something about the rhythm of pedaling that clears my mind. As the sun started dipping, I flicked on the light — a bright beam cutting through the dusk. By the time I got home, I felt both exhausted and refreshed. Definitely worth the ride.

It's beginning to feel like spring; daytime highs of 60°, 70°, 80°!, 70°, 60°, 50° -- brr! But with bright blue skies, maybe I don't need to drag the trainer out after all.

Occasionally posting here kind of paid off; yesterday afternoon (60°) I passed a patch of daffodils and shortly thereafter thought, "I should post a picture of them." So I started paying more attention, surely there'll be more in the next five miles. Well, there was what looked like a cherry tree flowering, and perhaps a Bradford pear, but not too much else in bloom. One scraggly patch, and then this one less than a mile from the house:

March daffodils

Now it's time to send out the obnoxious "Spring is coming!" email to relatives up north and up in Colorado. :)

First three consecutive days' riding this year; it's great to be outside. Still a bit tough trying to break in a new Brooks saddle (Christmas present) while healing a broken wrist. Wonder if I can make it four days in a row tomorrow?

2.7 miles today to check out whether I could clip in and to test the higher pressure in the tires. Felt faster but harsher. Used Silca and actually measured the tire and weighed myself with the bike in hands, and I'm going to lower by a few psi to get to the Silca recommended level 56.5R/55F, and see how that feels. Don't want to wear myself out before square dance lessons on Tuesday night, so I will try a longer ride on Wednesday when the weather is supposed to be nice, and after I've minutely adjusted the left foot position. I'm really glad my pedals have a flat side.

WaveyGravey 03-04-25 02:53 PM

I rode only 5 miles. Intention was to finish 30 but rain began.

essiemyra 03-04-25 03:30 PM

I got out and rode for 9.7 miles on Saturday with my nephews up in St Augustine. Monday I rode for 12 miles and had to call for a ride home as I got a flat. Today I rode for 19 miles and it was a good day for riding. I almost forgot to mention today's wind. Yeah there was wind today. I know I won as I got home so all is good.

pepperbelly 03-04-25 05:39 PM

Not today and probably not tomorrow.
I have decided that when the wind is over 15mph or 20mph I don’t enjoy riding.
Today it was sustained at 35mpg gusting to 50mph. Some gusts were recorded at 70mph a few miles from here. We have had a lot of west Texas dust blowing through.
I think I may go to the gym tomorrow. 😄

2cam16 03-04-25 06:01 PM

A nice fun morning up in the mountains. Muddy in spots but I'm good with that. Only 9 miles but over 1k of climbing.

As one person described the trail in a review : ‘beautifully boring’ . :)

It does actually have a lot of plusses - just 30 miles but has different sections with unique characteristics. East most section is crushed limestone - passes by small towns and scenic especially near a rock quarry. The middle section is paved and passes through a wide open area. The western most section is also paved - but more remote and passes through rock cuts and by and over a meandering creek and past a small lake.

The trail also connects to the 60 mile Montour trail (which connects to the 160 mile GAP trail). Many will combine the Panhandle trail with neighboring gravel roads and paved rural roads to produce a more varied ride.
