Beautiful day! 81° 29% humidity and a little wind, well maybe a little more than a little but all in all a beautiful day. I rode 53.5 miles and felt great the whole way.
Funny thing though, I stopped at a church to tighten my bottle holders as I heard them rattling and as I was sitting there a guy on a Specialized stopped and we started talking. He was new to the area and we talked about the roads around and where to ride and such, anyway as we were talking he touched my rear tire as to feel it or something. Anyone ever hear or do this? I thought it sort of strange. What could he have been trying to find out by feeling the tire? Anyway we may tie up again and ride together sometime. He seemed pretty nice, just moved from California.

Well, there's your answer.

Did he have any apples with him?

LOL no apples but he did have one of those insulated water bottles. I asked if they really worked and he said he was an hour and a half in his ride, and I believe him due to where he told me he lived, and he still had ice in the bottle. I am going to buy one and see for myself. Camelback brand.

A very uneventful 10 mile ride today at a relaxed, but not slow pace. The bum leg gave no complaints on the handful of mild hills. Unlike yesterday, today I clipped in wearing my Shimano sandals. There was no pain on clipping in or out, but I did avoid trying that except at the start and end of the ride. Maybe 5 cars passed me during the ride and my apprehension about being passed seems to be under control. I'm sure, though, that the first time I am buzzed by a too close passing car I will get a chill.

Sunday 9/05/2010
31.0 miles today
140 miles this month
4688 miles this year
152 ride days LY vs. 151 ride days TY
2811 miles needed to hit 2010 goal (7500 miles)
I am @ 62.5% of my goal.
95 miles ahead of last year at this date

Motivation meter today 10.0 on a scale of 1-10

A little warmer today but still a perfect day to ride, light wind from the WNW (5-10 mph)and temps a little higher than yesterday low 80s to low 90s. I could have and should have done more, perhaps I will go out again later. Had the camera with me but did not see anything worth taking it out for.

kr32 09-05-10 03:04 PM

I wore arm warmers for the first time this year when leaving at 7:30 and the temp was low 60's, felt good though and as the sun got higher so did the temps. I rode 69.5 miles and had a great morning to be honest. I tried out a road I have always thought about thinking I knew where it came out but was a little surprised at where it did come out. No problem though as I just adjusted my way and kept on riding.

10 Wheels 09-05-10 03:12 PM

Sat nice temps high of 87* did 100 miles.
Today, The Heat is back 90* Sunny 72 miles.

The Weak Link 09-05-10 03:19 PM

I trained for the triathlon. I ran 1 mile with my daughter, than rode 6 miles with her around the neighborhood. I'm beat.

kr32,
I'd be wary of anybody that wants to touch my tires. Never know what other deviant behavior a person like that has.

Hillbasher 09-05-10 04:27 PM

Put in just short of 30 miles this morning. I would have done the usual and headed up into the mountains from home, but it being a little warm already by the time I started, I went the easy way out . Headed down to the lake and then did some short hills in a very nice residential area. Took it easy for the most part, as I am supposed to be heading uphill tomorrow, right after getting done with being at work all night. Have a good holiday. :50:

My thoughts exactly

It all worked out in the end.

Yesterday's ride started with one of those "ah, sh%%"moments. New bike on Thursday, had it on the back of the car. Backed into the car behind me!!! BENT the back wheel!!!

Trip to the LBS worked out well. Wheel man not busy. Trued my wheel in five minutes. No charge.

After that a casual 1 1/2 hour ride along the waterfront. My black mood from the accident faded.

BikeWNC 09-05-10 04:37 PM

No ride today. My daughter and I paddled our tandem canoe down the Nantahala River this afternoon. Beautiful day here.

MinnMan 09-05-10 04:58 PM

Yesterday I went on the big holiday weekend club ride. We got off to a fast start in a big group with tailwinds and some strong pullers. I wasn't sure if I was dong the 75 or 100 mile option until the decision point at a rest stop, 34 miles in. There, almost everybody seemed to be doing the 75 mile option, so I went with them. However, this was the speedster group. As we were leaving the rest stop, a large group of more simpatico riders were rolling in to it, and I wished I had hung around to ride with the rest with them. Soon after the rest stop, the faster bunch of the speedsters left me and a few others in the dust on a big hill. As I topped the hill and turned into a serious headwind, things were looking pretty grim as the folks in the paceline just got further and further ahead. But soon a few others dropped off the back of the group. We fought the headwinds alone for a while, spread out over about half a mile, but eventually we coalesced into our own group and things were looking up. At about 60 miles we turned to a tailwind and the end of the ride was quite fun, even though my legs were feeling quite cooked by that time. Overall, a pretty good ride.

Day off today, for sure.

NO, had to recover from my mother-in-laws birthday bash.

JanMM 09-05-10 06:12 PM

45 mile club ride yesterday. Ten local miles by myself today - included the two most-nearly-challenging hills nearby. (We are hill-challenged)

trep53 09-05-10 06:18 PM

Yes! My brother and I rode 50 miles on the Greenway trail in Ashtabula County, Ohio. We started just north of the I 90 underpass where the north bound trail is closed for construction and rode to Orwell and back. Completed the ride in 3 hrs, it was a beautiful day! My front tire air pressure was low at the end for some reason, I filled it at the start but a 700X25 won't leak slowly. Who knows. Anyway it was a good ride.

Red Rider 09-05-10 07:20 PM

Yes, 42.5 mi. with the shop beginner ride. About 13 mi. the beginners peeled off to go back, and 10 of us added miles; cgallagh & a friend & I added a couple good climbs and some rollers at the end. It was a brisk, fun, social ride, and our 1st in CA since 8/22.

rdtompki 09-06-10 03:15 PM

47 miles 1/2-club ride on the tandem. The ride starts at 0900 which is late in the day for us so we drive 25 miles or so to the lunch stop, ride the 25 additional miles to the ride starting point, show up by 0900 and finish by noon. This club starts virtually all rides at 0900 or later; seems like burning daylight to me.

MinnMan 09-06-10 03:28 PM

A comparatively fast early-morning 60 mile club ride. Mostly flat, with just a few challenging rollers. Rather enjoyable, though I confess that I drafted almost the whole way. I pulled for no more than 3 miles; less than my share in a group of 10. Others are stronger and wanted to pull, so why should I object? On the other hand, sometimes it feels like cheating, like I'm not really earning all my own miles.

kr32 09-06-10 04:28 PM

I went out for a easy 36 miles but somehow the wind seemed to be in my face no matter what direction I went. I didn't let it get me down too much though because it was a beautiful day and I didn't want to spoil it. I just kept it in a low gear and cranked it over.

BikeWNC 09-06-10 04:51 PM

Cleaned out the garage this afternoon after taking the kid to her gymnastics practice this morning. No ride. Now I need a dumpster for all the trash.

BluesDawg 09-06-10 04:53 PM

A very pleasant 20 miles this afternoon on the rural roads near home. The leg still feels a little funny, but does not hurt. Being passed by cars still gets my attention. but does not scare me. I guess I'm getting there.

And I am gratified to read you are back on the road.
