Beautiful day for a 32 mile ride along the lower American River Bike Trail.
We had some interesting people on the trail today. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=172284 |
I spent the day riding trails as well as downtown streets and even a rails-to-trails MUP out through the woods in a very old Nebraska town. I've never been on most of these streets and trails until now. Beatrice, Nebraska. Where Beatrice Foods started out over 100 years ago. You remember Beatrice Foods?
http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2008/0...ousehold-name/ I love exploring on my bike. I can learn history as well as about Nature. |
My wife and I were asked to join a couple of ladies on their ride after church yesterday. I asked what their average speed was and they agreed that it was around 16 MPH. Wife and I grabbed our road bikes and met up with them. Neither had cyclocomputers and it quickly became obvious they were seriously overestimating their average speed. 20 miles averaging just over 8MPH with a pizza stop mid ride. We had a great time anyway and will ride with them again but we'll ride our MTBs next time.

Beautiful Sunny Day, 3 riders, Temps 60* - 78*
100.39 miles |
Hi from Melbourne Australia, where it is just now starting to warm up after our first wet and cold winter for some years - My ride yesterday, as posted on a local forum:
The morning was beautiful, a decent headwind as I headed north from Dandenong on the path, but so what, be a great tailwind for the return! I went as far as Wantirna, including Scotsmans Creek hill in Jells, as is my habit. I was on a strict time limit, so I turned for home, enjoying the speed and help from the tailwind. Stayed on Eastlink to Princess Highway, and as there was virtually no traffic, I went into the left lane to go under Eastlink as far as the slip road near Superstore. However, the best laid plans....... An small car with an Indian 'driver' was stopped to give way before turning left (no lights) at the bottom of the off ramp from Eastlink, but as I was directly in front of the vehicle, he planted the foot! I had a second or so, I stepped on the pedals, but was too slow - he caught my back wheel, but then he realized something was terribly wrong, and stopped with me looking at his grill from the surface of the roadway. I called the cops, cancelled the ambos when they phoned me back, cops talked to the driver, took my details, and gave me a ride home in the back of the paddy wagon! I had the driver details also, and told him at the very least he was up for a new wheel and I would be in touch - I won't hold my breath. No bones broken, helmet didn't even touch the ground, bruises aplenty, skin off knee, lots of skin of my right elbow, impressive amount of blood, few more muscle aches today. Damn, new Table Tennis season starts tonight - quick, where's the Elmore Oil! So, how come he lives here in Narre Warren, and drives with an Indian licence? How does Vicroads take points from this licence? My theory after many years cycling without an incident like this, is to presume a vehicle is not going to stop until it actually does stop. This works! So now, do I presume a stopped vehicle is going to drive off as I am immediately in front of it? |
Happens in Australia, too!!
Anyway, sorry about your accident. |
Short ride, felt sick, was sick, came home.

Sunday 10/3- 52 very nice mile ride in 55° early am start. Took a new road halfway on ride and came out where I would have if I had gone as planned, well sort of a plan anyway. Most rides are not planned just hop on bike and go somewhere and plan as I go.
Short sleeve jersey with a base layer arm and knee warmers and gloves. All was good. None today as I needed to work on truck and going to get part had a nail go into rear tire, bummer for sure. |
This evening was rainy and a chilly 54 degrees that I'm not used to. Chickened out and did my 1 hr workout on the trainer. First indoor session of the new season.

Galveston today 5 riders to start. 60*-78*
101 miles (610 miles in 6 days) Pics http://s256.photobucket.com/albums/h...view=slideshow |
I'm bouncing into Graceland, because I drove to Memphis for my ride today.
That would be Memphis, Indiana, for a 40 mile ride with the Southern Indiana Wheelmen. It really should be called the Wheelbabes, because almost everybody there was female. Toughest part about the ride was clothing. It started out at 45 and ended at 75. I realized at mile 38 that I didn't drink anything since mile 22. No wonder riding through the parking lot felt like such an ordeal. |

An hour and a half of cross bike riding in a local park. Nice ride although wet is some areas, should take about 1 hour to clean up the bike.

Latitude65 from Alaska and I did about 30 miles on our local Parker, CO, trails, ending up with lunch with our wives at the Cherry Village Asian Grill. A most delightful morning.
We are approacihng our 74th and 71st birthdays respectively next month and seem to ride well together. |
Short, rainy ride past the Land of Nod.

The weather is getting much better here, only 81 as I type this after my ride today. Still these rides are getting to be a struggle for me as my heart rate
had dropped drastically since my episode with my thyroid. Still can't seem to get the dosage right. My doc sent me to a heart man and he gave my heart a green light and said more than likely when my thyroid dosage gets regulated, my HR will pick up. I hope so I have two centuries coming up and I am going to be very slow with a HR of 125 instead of 156. I think its time to double my dosage and see what happens with the next blood test. Sorry for the rant, I am just getting a little frustrated with this thing. this is today's ride, and I am getting slower all the time, and I want to scream. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/52042928 |
Did my usual route today. I left late waiting for the temps to get warm enough to not need arm warmers. Big mistake. On the way home I ran into lots of school buses and moms picking up the kiddies. :notamused:
No more leaving late for me. Cooler temps and arm warmers are better than this stuff any day. :o Ran into what I thought was a big accident on my way to Stone Mountain. Saw 6 police cars with blue lights flashing up ahead. As I approached the intersection I saw what was happening. One of the local elementary schools was having a "parade" of some kind. Don't know why. |

Beautiful day for a bike ride so I decided to forgo the road ride and take the MTB out to the local Single Track. I did 14 miles(2 laps) and felt like a kid again.
I almost forgot how much fun the MTB can be, no is. I believe I will go to the other park and do it either tomorrow or Monday and try for 28 miles.( two laps). |
Yesterday completed 7 rides, 693 miles for the month.
my Lips are chapped and sun burned. Arriving home, my wife told me that my first cousin was dead. Murdered in his home. Resting until the lips heal up. http://www.theindychannel.com/news/25330753/detail.html |
