Did 47 miles with 4856 feet of climbing this morning. Went out to Baldy Village. This ride I did today is going to be part of the next to last stage in the Tour of California next May. Now people on this forum will be able to see what GMR/GRR , Mt. Baldy area is all about. Most of the gain is on the way out, which makes the return very enjoyable. The wind was blowing quite strongly all the way out, making things that much harder. As if I needed any help making it harder. Great day, just a little warm on the climbs, but that made it all the more fun. Mr Beanz left me in the dust as usual.:50:

Not to change the subject for you and kr32, but what's with the Skins? I watch the replays each week on the NFL network, and week after week they suck, yet they manage to win. I guess having a good quarterback for the first time since Mark Ripien has its advantages.

Got back late last night form the three day UCI Cyclp-cross race festival in the Cinncy area. It was hot, dry and dusty making it truly a lung buster. I competed in the Master's 45+ Cat 4 races which had anywhere from 27 to 40 old guys risking life and limb for merchandise prizes. The start of the races are mad house. The fields of the Cat 4 open, 35-44, and 45 + were all combined with the younger guys called up first in rows of 8, then the 35's followed by my group. There was at least 120- 150 racers all blasting from the start and racing against their field and everyone else for 40 minutes of self inflicted pain and suffering. One thing good about the combined groups was each group had a different colored number so you could tell who were your competitors. I always hit the start as hard as possible and took a lot of risks to get ahead of my group and put other riders between us.

At the end of the weekend I raced in Covington KY, Middletown OH and Fairfield OH. Talley was a 2nd place on Friday, 5th place on Saturday (would have been 3rd had I not crashed into a barrier and got wrapped up in the bike with 1/2 lap to go) and on Sunday I abandoned from the race after 20 minutes while in 3rd place. I suspected while warming up that I was pretty much done as I could not do any hard effort and recover. I did my usual hard start then could not recover and was truly out of gas.

What a great sport! The guys who race are nice and friendly, there are announcers busting on the racers while they struggle in the sand pits, even the pro's, and the whole festival thing with beer is special.:thumb: Before our race start on Saturday the announcers called everyone's attention the the start of the Cat 4 race. They were betting each other on where the big crash would take place and encouraged the fans to get out on the course to watch the "demolition derby of the Crash 4's. The crash did happen, just behind me.:thumb:

Here are a few images.

I like it. I am into taper mode with easy rides and motor pacing at the track.

Yep. Zone 2 commute in 35f weather this morning. 12 miles, lights on, mostly downhill. I'll be riding home in the van tonight as #2 son and I have obligations this evening. The usual Wednesday thing.

One of these days I'm gonna have to video my commute and post it here to make everybody insanely jealous. Heh heh.

Night riding with my buddies started today. 5 of us did 30.5 miles then had sandwiches and beer after the ride in a local brew pub. The beginning of the best rides of the year.:thumb:

Just did a 12 mi. night ride with the local rail trail people. The purpose of the ride was a "Loose Change" ride to raise funds for the Depot restoration. Great night and the trail is fun at night. Support your local trail organization, it's a good thing for communities !

Good luck at World's Hermes. Riding while in taper mode is quite the experience. It's like "all dressed up and no place to go".

I'm trying to hold on to my fitness and training for a little while longer because cross racing is so much fun. My coach wants me to shut it down for 1 month but is letting me go as long as I don't hit rock bottom. Sunday's race may have demonstrated that I'm nearing the end, but it was my third race in three days which is something I don't train for.

LAriverRat 10-14-10 11:42 PM

No, only rode twice this month. Crap.

With this nasty weather here on the east coast it's eating into my riding time I want to ride more so I hope the weather clears up and the winds die down some what.

bobbycorno 10-15-10 08:59 AM

Yep. Commute again. Effin' cold: 37f when I headed out. S'posed to be low 60s for the ride home.

First ride with the new headlight - a Spanninga Micro FF LED (is that a mouthful or what?) It's a dynamo light, replacing the old Lumotec I had on the Kog. A night and day difference, if you'll pardon the pun.

3 hours of mtb riding with my son and his buddy in Ohio's Mohician State Park. Beautiful fall day with temps in the 50's. I did have significant fall that may have bruised my rib cage. I am trying out mtb's and rode a 26" full suspension most of the day. After my fall I tried out my son's hard tail 29'er. I found that is much easier and more efficient to go OTS on the 29'er.

I start early and sometimes have 20 miles in at the start.

Come on down. We can ride to Galveston if you want. 67 miles round trip.

Use your Meds.....

If you look for reasons to Not Ride.... You will never ride.

Warm October weather provided great cycling in bike shorts and a jersey. Not to many more weekends like this in Chicago this year.

58 miles in 3 hours, 20 minutes. a strong headwind on the return trip made for a little HTFU.

My wife and I rode 31 miles today, a repeat of our ride 2 weeks ago. This time we stopped at the top of the bridge to take a (cell phone camera) picture. This is the only hill around this area!

Wife and I did the 68+ mile 100km of Foxy's Fall Century in Davis, CA. Pretty easy ride, but we made the right decision not riding the full 100 miles - don't think we're completely recovered from the Lighthouse century, the last 25 miles of which were very hot. This is a well run organized ride: decent roads, excellent course markings, friendly folks. There was only one short stretch with a fair bit of headwind.
