I was able to get out of the house by 6:30 am this morning. I rode for 20 miles and to make my ride even better I stopped at Walmart on my way home to pick up a few items. I was thinking about bringing a pannier but chose not to and so it limited what I could get at Walmart. Oh well.

Headed out of the garage at 3:33am and instead of going down the block and turning left I chose to go straight and ride. A short 12.21 miles later I was done. Bike rides like new.
I commuted to work by bike this afternoon for 6 miles. And just as I got near work a light rain started it should end before I leave work at 7:30 which will be a straight ride home as the sun will set at 8pm. |
Thought that before I really back off on my riding, I would try to get my birthday ride out of the way for the year. It didn't take long to realize that I wasn't going to make it 78 miles, so I switched my cycle app to KM's and got in just over 80 km before reaching homebase. I'm calling it good and as soon as I finish my tea am heading to bed :) Ended the week with 190 miles total. I always round my rides down to the nearest 5 so it's easier to keep track.

About 9 miles today. It rained for a while here Fri/Sat, so I've been off the bike a bit.

hurt my knee hiking in Utah - but I thought a bike ride might be ok (it wasn’t :( ) - and what a crazy ride it was !
started out as a normal ride - on the Redbank Valley trail which runs along the Redbank creek on one side and large areas with a shelf cut into the hillside / rock on the other side https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4bb403461.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...150fdd49c.jpeg then I saw a giant dog - and he had a see-through belly ! https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4f0e01c34.jpeg then I saw a huge rabbit - and the rabbit was eating ! https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2fa650d9d.jpeg then I saw this guy that looked like the Tin Man - and a little bear nearby ! https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ef5883c78.jpeg later approached a bridge - and a large black crow first refused to move - then stared me down - and then chased me ! https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...09a53aaeb.jpeg so I headed back to the start point and as I passed through a tunnel a ghost passed over my head - whoosh ! https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...dfc099303.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...463ca45e3.jpeg as crazy as that seems - then a kid on a bike appears out of nowhere - poof ! right next to me ! and he’s from Osaka Japan and biking from NY to LA ! https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...abd5d7dac.jpeg I’m telling ya - I picked the wrong time to stop sniffing glue ! |

Almost 10 miles today, after a little work on the mixte.
https://i.imgur.com/tYL6jgM.jpg I put the drop bars on it that came with it when I bought it. https://i.imgur.com/ReEfBGp.jpg This is a LOT easier on the wrists than the wide hybrid flat bars that came on the bike. Hurried hockey tape and grip job for now, just temporarily until I can find some decent navy blue bar tape. Braking is surprisingly efficient like this, even though I keep reaching for the front of the drops and the non-existent front brake lever there. I ***ahem*** can ride this rig like this "no hands". :D https://i.imgur.com/68RrN10.jpg https://i.imgur.com/zFU9P8K.jpg Just a couple of natural beauty blossom pics, before they all fall off and blow away. O.C. Nikkor 35mm f2 at f8 and ISO 200. -D.S. |
75km today, hot and windy, but still a nice ride. I pushed it a little, averaging 26kph. Tomorrow, weather allowing, I'll be shooting for 150km out to the countryside and back.

Back in Catalunya, and my first ride of the week. I find peace in my soul when I'm here.

including some neat rock faces - some weeping, small waterfalls, another tunnel (this one with a paved surface), number of bridges, great views of the creek, old historic coke ovens, and more sculptures (including sculptures in the little friendly town of New Bethlehem ) at the western end the trail also connects to the 50+ mile Armstrong trail that runs along the Allegheny River https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2959f2ece.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...e4d27fdd4.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...cabdcdee2.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b043189d3.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...664dae0b4.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...148fd3997.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4fb1b2d2b.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8a74b4a52.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...bbaa76ac7.jpeg . |

There's also a Leatherman Wave in there that's saved my bacon on more than one occasion, especially with it's razor sharp knife blades. -D.S. |
About 12 miles today.
https://i.imgur.com/0FpQxUo.jpg At a coffee shop along the way. I like doing this~ it appeals to my Spockish sense of Logic. Having a destination and purpose sometimes improves the riding. ;) https://i.imgur.com/GcrTSBu.jpg Along Grant Ave. Grew up in this area. I was long gone by '74. Boulevard hasn't changed much, except for the size of the trees. Some of them are edging on 50 years old by now. -D.S. |

Lowe-Pro 130 A/W single strap shoulder bag. It's small enough to ride on the center of my back with the strap across my chest.

Actually, I rarely stop for photos while I'm riding. I did, however, take the Z5 and a 28-75 zoom with me on last week's trip to Bermuda with my fiancée and am now sorting through the over 440 shots I took. This one is Jobson's Cove. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...38be91c21d.jpg |

I could see using something like that if I had a small bodied mirrorless with just a single lens aboard. I'm one of those fortunate/unfortunate sons that can't face life with only one lens at hand. Racking the camera bag I really don't like doing on account of the vibration. At least I've got a system now that sort of works. -D.S. |
A good loop from Ripoll, up the buttkicking Col du Jou and back down through Ribes de Freser.

Well, I did the 150km ride, and rather wish I didn't. Besides the fast 75km ride on Tuesday, my personal trainer put me through the wringer later in the evening. I ended up going for the ride anyway, as the weather report stated that it would rain from today until next week. Yesterday was 31 degrees centigrade, and 81% humidity, with a headwind, and clouds of bugs. Not the little bugs like gnats and mosquitos, but a combination of dragon flies, bumble bees, grasshoppers, and other hard-bodied bugs which are painful to hit when you are riding a decent speed. At 80km I started to run out of gas, so I stopped at a convenience store and had a nutritious meal of nachos and ice cream, washed down with cola, then hit the road again. I was going to call it a day, head home, and enjoy a cold beer, but after a while my energy started to come back up, so I decided to once again push for 150km. When I got to Tokyo Bay at 135km, I turned toward home, which I knew would get me over 150, and the wind helped me get through the last miles. It was a tough ride, enough so that I'm still feeling it today. But tomorrow I should feel better, the temp will be only 24 degrees, and it looks like rain is off the forecast, so I may go out and do it again. I have some kind of mental issue that the worse a ride is, the more I want to ride. BTW, kudos to Brooks, my butt was the only thing that didn't hurt last night. |
