Wife and I rode 16 miles this morning. It started off pretty comfortable temp wise, but got hot and muggy toward the end.
We're both mid 70's and cant handle the heat as well as we used to. The only solution is to get out and back early if we can. |
Thursday's main ride was about 18 miles.
https://i.imgur.com/HnYmSBl.jpg Stopped here to check for manual focus nikon lenses, and nothing. Strong head-winds on the way up, too. Got passed by an old guy mashing a heavy frame something or other hybrid. He ran outta steam after about 6 or 7 blocks into that head wind, and I regrettably had to pass him. I actually gave him a chance to recover for 2 blocks, and he slowed down even more. I think this may be something that I personally am going to have to watch for- this over-exertion thing at these warming temperatures can be dangerous. Hope he made out o.k. https://i.imgur.com/kzg9OOA.jpg The blue rocket outside the camera shop in a hefty crop. https://i.imgur.com/ZrUB9Xd.jpg Picked up a handful of small bits from one of my favorite LBS's on the way back. The new seat post binder bolts are actually sorta cool. I mangled my cheap plastic levers on the last tire change. Maybe the Park version is gonna last a little longer. The brass presta to schrader adapter looks a lot better than the chewed up plastic thing I've been using. -D.S. |
I rode with 2 friends today, both live locally. We all thought this was one of the most beautiful routes in Catalonia. Virtually no cars, perfect roads, and lunch in Beget.

I was out the door at 6AM for a quick 21 miles and just over 1k climbing. Back in time to go for a 3 mile walk with the wife and prep for guests in the afternoon. First time I've ridden that early since retiring 2-1/2 years ago.

Lowe-Pro 130 A/W single strap shoulder bag. It's small enough to ride on the center of my back with the strap across my chest.
There's usually the D-810 in there, and 3 or 4 manual focus lenses, a few tools for the bike and some camera related odds and ends. There's also a Leatherman Wave in there that's saved my bacon on more than one occasion, especially with it's razor sharp knife blades. -D.S. |

My 68th birthday is coming up soon, and an RMA ride with friends, so I took advantage of excellent weather in Colorado yesterday to "tune up" a little for it. I rode an out-and-back on local MUPs, from Golden to Brighton, for 72 miles RT. I thought it was dead flat, but there's a nearly 1000' elevation drop along the waterways I followed. I had a 16+ mph average heading out (despite the 15 mph speed limit on the somewhat busy MUPs), but ended up with 15 mph average for the day. I also had a bit of a headwind on the uphill ride back. I'm still keeping the pace I could keep a decade ago.
I enjoyed the wildlife as I rode downstream away from the city--eagles, snapping turtles, beavers, lots of small colorful birds. |
A little over 26 miles today.
https://i.imgur.com/Y05HOqZ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/kic24k5.jpg Some of the bike paths I rode. https://i.imgur.com/Yi8s8Mm.jpg This coffee shop is at about the 10 mile mark. Went as far as Cabela's, and they didn't have what I was after. https://i.imgur.com/1m7UlLd.jpg Ended up here (for the first time) on the way home. Homer's on to something here. Part of the reason for this ride was a semi-serious tire test. That will go into a post on the appropriate forum- probably C&V. https://i.imgur.com/lri7pTl.jpg Set up in test configuration here. Vacuum bottle and bottle cage are a test of their own that I will cover here. Both work well. That bottle cage is actually silent. The aluminum- s/s bottle kept my tap water cold for a good 2 hours before I had to use it. Both will be put to use on my longer rides. Bottle holds just shy of 16 oz. of cold water. -D.S. |
70° and sunny this mid-afternoon. Even worked up a sweat, more than once.

Love the smell inside Krispy. There was a bakery that smelled like that when I was a kid. And yes, people were watching their hot orders roll off the line :D -D.S. |
Sunday's ride was about 18 miles.
I didn't want to go that far, but the bike had other ideas. ;) For a change, no buffeting head winds. Even climbed one of the bridges I don't like- a long 6 degree incline of about a half mile. No photo's this time- it was just a pleasant mile eating ride, except for the bridge. Made a stop and got a roll of the blue shop towels, and a tiny tub of Mother's aluminum and mag polish. (this stuff works, btw) Found a nice long flat bladed screwdriver in the middle of the road on the way home. (that's how I get quite a few of my tools- finding them on the road) -D.S. |
Grateful to post this thread
Yesterday I pulled the e-roadie (again) to ride :thumb:, as my mileage of late is dismal :( and I wanted some hilly aerobic miles, without sapping too much energy for other necessary primitive tasks :fred:, fighting the weeds and lawnmowing, to name a couple.
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...adb932119.jpeg Clouds kept it cooler today. And Memorial Days' Sunday traffic was minimal and courteous. Guys driving sports cars and big motoredcycles. Several Corvettes, a Maserati, a finely tuned something racy euro, Oldsmobile 442, Hondas & HarleyDavid's but only singles - no group rides. |
Eased off a bit today. Backed down to almost 12 miles for the first of two recovery days.
Been pushing a bit hard distance wise for the last 3 days. Will try and keep it around the 10-12 mile mark for tomorrow, and then I'll be able to put up some miles again the day after. https://i.imgur.com/Wn15s4r.jpg In another of the small parks that seem to dot the River Heights area. https://i.imgur.com/ODxeMEe.jpg People were out to enjoy the 75 degree sunshine this afternoon. https://i.imgur.com/geILGne.jpg Cleaning progress photo on the blue rocket. :) -D.S. |

The wife and I got out for 13 miles this morning.
After several days of stormy wet weather, it was nice to get back out. |
Two rides on the mixte today. The first was a decent 10 miler in the morning. Had an evening "test" ride of about six miles.

Another crack at the flat bars. Details in the posting on the mixte thread here in a bit. -D.S. |

( I believe this is required ? ) |
I got out for a 12 mile solo ride today, so was able to pick up the pace a bit.
I felt like I was doing pretty good until the resident road runner decided to show me just how slow I was. He's on roughly the same stretch of road every day, and seems to do this for kicks. :notamused: |

About 28 miles today- on the mixte. :D
