I overdid it last week, so I took 3 days off and it was the cycling version of dope-sick. Got my fix today, an easygoing 34 miles around town. Whew, all good.

That would be a good ride.

15 easy miles this evening, to Trinity Park and back.

Stay tuned for more :)

I live east of Hulen Mall, south of TCU, in South Hills.

I went to high school in FW (Southwest HS class of 1985). My daughter earned her bachelors and masters degrees at TCU. FW is still considered "home" to both me and my wife. My grown kids now live in the house where I grew up in Wedgwood as caretakers for my father.

Cheers!

Doohickie 07-31-24 07:42 AM

Yep, I'm just on the other side of I-20 from Wedgwood. We lived near Sycamore School and McCart for 21 years and moved "inside the loop" 6 years ago.

I am up north by Saginaw. I have to drive to get to good trails.

Marine Creek Lake is my local go-to trail but some days it’s hard to get excited about the climbing there. Nothing really big but there is a lot.

There is a plan to connect Marine Creek Lake to Buck Samson Park inside Loop 820 by bike path. I don't know if that's in work or what; haven't been up that way in a while. But from Buck Samson Park there's a trail that follows Marine Creek all the way to the Stockyards. From there you can go through the Stockyards, get on 23rd Street (which has a bike lane) and take it over to 23rd and Samuels from where the Trinity Trail takes you downtown.

Crossing 820 would be rough.

A bike lane on Marine Creek under 820. That could be good.
At least they don’t want us using the Azle Ave. bridge

I know it well. I grew up across Alta Mesa from Southwest HS between Woodway and Welch. Small world. Nice bike!

You rode a marathon!

I've been hiding from the heat, hitting the trainer in the basement. This morning I did some chores and then got out mid-day for another city ride. The heat and humidity "was oppressing me" and I was checking my rear tire - is it going flat? Or maybe my power meter needs calibrating? 😀

Sorry, didn't take any pics. After switching back to clipless pedals I started having pain first thing in the morning in the middle of my feet. After walking a bit it would go away. I put my flat peds back on and started searching for a new set of pedals. They arrived this morning so I swapped out my worn out Rock Bros for the DH Sports along with a freshly waxed chain and took off. At around the halfway point I realized that I was way ahead of my normal time so I skipped the picture taking break and put the pedal to the metal. I ended up knocking almost a full 3 minutes off of my prior 25 mile personal best, coming back into the drive at just under 1 hour and 6 minutes. At 76 I thought I was done setting new personal bests, but what do you know. I'm chuffed! :)

essiemyra 08-02-24 07:39 PM

I also have been hiding from the heat and humidity but decided I needed to get out this morning and ride. I am sick of the weather dictating my activities. So I rode for 17 miles and it was a nice ride.

rustystrings61 08-03-24 08:19 AM

I didn't get to ride Friday, so this morning I more than made up for it. I met up with my chief riding buddy and collaborator in the fixed-gear Illuminati of Greenwood County for a multi-surface ride. Ainsley initially suggested a route that would have carried us out into Abbeville County and had us work our way back the loooong way, but since neither of us is in shape for that we chose a variation on a route I did recently - Hodges, thence to Ross Road and its glorious hardpack, eventually coming back via Johns Creek Road. We both rode to a rendezvous point and set off.

Our hard mechanical of the day came at the end of Dixie Drive right before turning to go in to Hodges, when some not entirely clear thing happened to the rear end of the front mudguard on Ainsley's Mercian KOM. On the bright side, we got to use the cool multi-tool I've been lugging around for 25 years to fix it, and there were photos, because there always are -

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...706f2bd76b.jpg

- which meant it was time for some glamour shots of bikes, starting with his afore-mentioned KOM -

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d72375e23e.jpg

- followed by my Vincitore, because I'll take pictures of this bike at the drop of a hat, and I'll drop the hat -

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2e77018e1a.jpg

- and then we were off, rattling along the glorious South Carolina Strada Bianca that is Ross Road.

We made it up the sharp climb on Klugh Road, which hurt the way it always does, then down Johns Creek, which is more of a red clay kind of road. The German Shepherd was not out to greet us, but we still enjoyed the route, switching over to asphalt when we hit the Greenwood County line. On Deadfall Road we encountered a couple of cyclists, one of whom we knew from years ago, and one newcomer to the area. We socialized and then everyone went off on their way.

By the time I made it home I had close to 28 miles in for the morning, which is always a good start to the day!

WaveyGravey 08-03-24 09:02 AM

Yes. 30 miles.

The plan was to stay on the towpath but the singletrack was calling my name. Boy was is hot. On the way back, I chatted with a guy doing a 100 mile training ride. In this heat. He's doing a charity ride in Atlanta at the end of the month so I guess this is good training for that.

I stopped frequently to hydrate and shoot some video. Glad I went out.
