Did one of my "epic-er" rides in awhile on a beautiful fall day in the Shenandoah Valley:
Bike Ride Profile | 116 miles near Lexington | Times and Records | Strava 116 miles, 9.5K of climbing, including a stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway from MP 0 to Rt 56 down into Vesuvius. Felt surprisingly good afterwards except for the mega cramps that set in about an hour after the ride. Ouch! |
50.4 mi. this morning @ 19.3 mph avg. The first 20 mi. were at 21 mph avg, continued another 5 mi. cooling down/recovering, then turned around and rode back the other 25 mi.

Fifteen miles of dirt today. It definitely did not suck.

Nice 22 mile slow ride with the wife this morning. Excellent morning weather for a ride but our afternoon thundershowers have flooded several places in the park. Lots of water on the streets, as well, after last nights downpour.

44.8 @ 16.1 ave this morning

Worked a little on the bike. Pulled the cranks and checked the bearings, cleaned and re-greased everything in an attempt to get rid of an intermittent clank/pop. It did. Nice 26 mi at the site where I work on a beautiful day pushing 80F. Not too many of those left here.

I usually hang out in C & V, but this seemed like a good first post for 50+. I celebrated my 59th birthday Saturday riding the 100 mile route at the Lighthouse Century in Morro Bay. My birthday won't fall on a Saturday again until 2025 when I turn 70, so I figure this might be the last time I ride a century on my birthday. Big thanks to "Fast Old Guys" riding buddies Mike and Tom for letting me talk them into joining me when they wanted to do the shorter but more interesting 85 mile route.
|
A belated Happy Birthday to you Straightblock, and congratulations on your birthday century ride, too.

(My birthday never falls on a Saturday. It's mathematically impossible, I think.) |
37.2 miles, 1550 of climbing, with a hangover. I'm glad I got out today but I'm getting too old for the morning-after ride. Good thing my imbibing is limited to very few days a year.

I had a good month of short recovery rides. 20 rides with total 223 miles.
Made changes on the trike. Made the Light bar removable. Added seat bag. Soon to be ready for some longer rides and smiles. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...CleanUp009.jpg |
Ever have one of those days so good, you wish you could swap brains with a sedentary friend, just to share the experience? I had one of those brainswap days yesterday. Did about 40 miles of climbing repeats.

18.44 this morning. Raced part of it which was fun.
20 miles this evening. Love the cool weather. 38.44 total. |
27.90 miles this afternoon, it felt nice to ride again after the weekends traveling and visiting our daughter in Atlanta. Been since back in the winter that I missed 3 consecutive days, hopefully it will be quite a while before it happens again.

Did a trike century with three of my Triking buddies. 100.4 miles at 14.4 mph average. Not fast, but no hand, neck or back aches. :)

Pretended today was Bike to Work Day, so I biked to work. 20 miles. Of course, since tomorrow is the last day of the National Bike Challenge, Tuesday is also Bike to Work Day. I need the miles to try to get back into the top ten of my employer, a large healthcare system. My guess is that I should be eligible for the Older Person's Top Mileage Award, except that of course there is no age tracking. And, there may indeed be someone older than me in contention.

7.7 miles @ 17.3 ave this morning before work. the workout was shortened by changing a flat in the dark.
|
26 miles with the wife today. I wanted to be there when she got the miles she needed to obtain Platinum status in the National Bike Challenge, since this is the last day of the challenge.
