I did ride today! (5/31) 17 miles, and rode up my nemesis hill. If you're familiar with the Louisville Loop, It is the hill at the entrance to Turkey Run Park, the hill which at the top of the steepest portion has hiker's rest-a resting spot off of the trail with a bench. Didn't ride up at as "fast" as I used to, but I rode up it, which is better than I did on the previous ride. My climbing legs are on their way back--yay!! Was very disappointed on last ride, still not "up to snuff", but at least improving. Looks like more days of rain on the way, so may not have an opportunity to sneak a ride in, but so glad to feel some improvement today. Hoping to continue to see more improvement as I get more rides done.

Turned 67 today and set out on a RMA ride. I did a little exploring (ahem--got lost) and ended up with 72 miles, on a loop around Denver bike paths, mostly flat. Yesterday I rode up Lookout Mt (2000' climb) to join a trail crew, then spent the afternoon volunteering at the non-profit bike shop.

The little bit of excitement today was riding through the remnants of last night's heavy hail in the town of Aurora. There were several inches of leaf litter and an inch or two of hail remaining in spots. Rode right off the edge of the paved trail a few times, just couldn't see it. That was for just a few miles.

Tomorrow I'd like to ride a 40-mile loop in the foothills up to Evergreen to meet some friends for breakfast, fellow retired firefighters. I'd have to leave at oh-God-thirty and I'm not going to set an alarm. I just might not have the energy to climb another 3,500'.

Another early start this morning. I was out at 6:45 and got a 20.4 mile ride. I am trying to add more miles into this route as it goes through some very quiet roads and also takes me off another road that has big trucks without much shoulder. A light jacket was needed again this morning.

Y'all in that part of the country have been getting hammered!! KY has had more that its share of rain this season, but (knock on wood), my specific location has dodged the tornadoes. Other parts have not been so lucky. Thank goodness, severe weather season is soon to be gone!

I just came down the big hill after a breakfast ride up to Evergreen. I made it an out-and-back on Hwy 40 (I-70 frontage road) due mainly to a foot race event limiting road access in the neighboring canyon, so less climbing for me at under 3,000'. I had some energy this morning after all, after a 70+ mile day in the plains yesterday, and a 2000' climb in the foothills the day before.

I'd like to be able to make an attempt at Mt Blue Sky later this summer, a road century with 11,000' of climbing, but it may be too much for a casual cyclist my age. It's been three years since I last made it. It's fun trying, at least, a really beautiful, exciting ride.

14+ miles in perfect weather - sunny, mid-high 70s, wind 10 mph. This is my 2nd post-COVID ride. The 1st was 7 miles a week ago, and I didn't have enough energy to get back on the bike until yesterday, when I had other things to do. The big question in my mind is, 'When will I want to get back on my bike this time?' I hope it's Wednesday....

This 2 years in a row that I got sick immediately after my first 20 mile ride of the year. Next year, I'll either stop at 19.99 or push on to 21.01....

I got out really early this morning at 5:30 am due to having an obligation this morning. My ride was 15 miles on the bike path. The forecast said it was. sunny but look at the picture it tells a different story.

Today I was able to get a 20 mile ride in on the bike path. I got a late start at 9:15 and that was part of the reason for staying on the bike path, it is cooler there.

24 miles. stopped under a tree for a passing shower. Spun home. Feels good.

It was pouring rain during the Mt Ascutney climb, which is horrific on a good day. My riding buddy and I descended in the rain with screaming hot brakes and waited out the thunderstorm in the ranger station at the bottom. When we were leaving the ranger wished us Happy Pride Month. 😜

Another sixteen miles around the neighborhood today.

28 miles with 1300’ climbing with Mrs RSbob. She even managed a quarter mile climb at 10% with a 12% cap on her trusty e-bike. She said she was peddling her @$$ off to get up that climb and was huffing and puffing, but didn’t file for divorce after, which was charitable of her.

missinglink 06-07-24 08:27 PM

Five miles around the neighborhood this evening. First ride I've done in nine days.

Flooding rains here, then a three day muggy trip to the coast (Rockport) has kept me off the bike.
It was so humid in Rockport, it looked like a fog blowing at 30mph.

andrewclaus 06-08-24 07:24 AM

The non-profit bike shop volunteer group, seven total, repeated last week's 67-mile RMA ride for another shop birthday. We're all about that age. We all had a blast. The route mostly followed MUPs along creeks and canals in and around Denver, mostly flat. My trip including extra miles to a meeting point was 73. Two flat tires in the group, both on tubeless tire bikes, one from a large fencing staple, one from a glass cut. Both had a spare tube, easily fixed in minutes. We all fix a lot of tires at the shop.

A few miles from the end of the ride, we were enjoying a brew on an outdoor patio at New Terrain Brewing in Golden, a bike-centric brew pub with trail access on North Table Mt. Equestrians use those trails too. A group of horses rode past just as a wind gust picked up and spooked a horse. The horse went down on its rider, against a fence! A small group of experienced people were immediately on scene, and Golden Fire was only minutes away. They treated it as a major injury. The horse was taken care of too. We all agreed that we'd rather fall from a bike than a horse.

Just rode 6 miles at my local lake. It was crowded, humid, about 85* with a wind about 20mph.
I felt every single miles I haven’t ridden due to stormy weather we have been having. That and a hangover or 2.
It felt good.

Samac 06-08-24 12:52 PM

Rode to work, ten miles round trip. Sunny, 78 and a bit windy on the way home, beautiful day.

Cheers,

Scott

WaveyGravey 06-08-24 05:23 PM

I rode 25 miles today.

missinglink 06-08-24 08:04 PM

Just a tad over 15 muggy miles this morning.
At one point I actually dropped my water bottle and ran over it with my rear wheel. That was a first. :o

WaveyGravey 06-09-24 10:37 AM

Rode early this morning around 7 AM and went 30 miles.

Samac 06-09-24 11:49 AM

Cruised the neighborhoods and the paths today, twenty miles. Today was very nice (low humidity, 72 degrees) except for the 22mph gusts out of the NW.

Cheers,

Scott
