Hey there Pepperbelly, It's been some non-stop crazy weather, hasn't it? I think y'all have had more stormy stuff than down here in Ellis county. We got 2 inches of rain, but managed to dodge the worst of it.
The wife and I finally got out for our 14 mile route this morning. Best ride we've had in a while. |
Getting into the steady riding now that my weekends are free. Mostly lunch break rides of 13-15 miles. New area, new roads. This one is closed for awhile which makes for some nice, quiet riding.

A little over 23 miles Wednesday on my new to me mixte.
Gonna do a separate thread on it here. https://i.imgur.com/5vr1HW2.jpg Quick and hurried pic of what it looks like after the first round of cleaning and adjustments... -D.S. |
Got out a little late today, 3:59AM, so had a bit under an hour on the DAHON. Managed a measly 12.21 miles. Better than nuttin.

I commuted to work 3 times last week and this. That's a bonus 9 miles per day!
|
I was able to leave the house this morning by 8:30am and rode the same ride I did yesterday.
|
30 miles with 1,200 feet of climb through Amish Country yesterday. I didnt take pictures. They don't like having their picture taken.
|
Another 6 mile lap around the lake.
They cleaned the mud off the path but there is still ground water seeping across. |
Only 25 miles today. I'm going to have to put the camera back on my helmet. I took it off since the foul weather just smudged up the lens, but now that we're getting sunny days and tourists that don't respect bikes, it needs to come back into use haha. It's the bright lights, dim drivers aspect.
I should also mention that I ran into a couple out on 3 wheel recumbents today. We only talked for a minute, but he had suffered a stroke at some point in the past but wasn't letting it slow them down. They were on the final leg of putting in 28 miles today. I was impressed with their efforts. Way to go if you're reading this! |
6 miles this a.m. to get a coffee downtown.
It shouldn't be that hard to find something open downtown for coffee at 7 a.m. on a Saturday morning, but it is. https://i.imgur.com/piPrlRr.jpg Morning after a big Jets win.:D https://i.imgur.com/FKpYhFk.jpg Crop of the image above. Telephoto fore-shortening is interesting here. Nikkor 105mm f 2.5 A/I-s m/f lens at f8. A pet lens for me. https://i.imgur.com/EpbeAjD.jpg Goose snoopervisor watching over the bike while I'm in Robin's ordering a somewhat stiff coffee. -D.S. |

My Stars aren’t done yet!😎 |

My Stars aren’t done yet!😎 Could go either way right now at 50/50. The Jets snoozed through the opener. Connor got yet another shut-out, which is probably some kind of franchise (at least) record. Haven't seen anyone that good between the pipes since the gumper. Heckuva series, anyways. ETA: D-F/W, huh? Stevie Ray's stomping grounds. Small world indeed. -D.S. |

Rode 40 miles today in a little under 3:00 and visited Iowa City |

Great ride until I couldn't cut through West Point and ended up on some really sketchy highways and one illegal one. Oops! 😜

Saturday mornings aren't usually that quiet, at least down-town.

Rode 11 miles this AM, and took my wife out to a concert at 3 PM. My last 2 rides really wiped me out. This one was energizing. Sunny, high 50s, light wind,
BTW, it was a student percussion ensemble concert at Northwestern U. There prof is top notch. If you're close to NU, I recommend checking out NU's concert schedule and attending the student stuff - cheap and usually very good, especially the percussion ensemble. |
31 miles circling the Ashokan Reservoir. 20 road, 10 gravel rail trail. Stunning day, but had to be quick in order to make it to Mother's Day lunch with my wife and younger stepson and his wife. Rode my Rivendell.

I tried Dirt Alpine again. without the mud of last time. the long climb is a good workout just enough. As I was climbing two guys, who I heard coming, flew by me they flew above me. as I was stopped it was a small ramp but so funny. I need to hit that when I get more familiar with the trail. the trail veers left right at the jump. Perfect chill ride with some climbs.

14 miles today: 8 for a.m. coffee, and 6 for evening coffee after a big and late Mother's day supper with daughters and the grand and great grand-kids.
Moto in the morning and "Raleigh" in the evening. That little mixte likes to hustle. https://i.imgur.com/zyJb1Lw.jpg For something a little different, a night shot after I got home from the last ride. Taken in the back stairs cage. O.C. Nikkor 35mm f2 wide open @ ISO 10,000 on the D-810. No flash- just the existing outdoor L.E.D. lighting. -D.S. |

Goes like that sometimes. Depends on which defense shows up- or doesn't. Didn't watch this one, and apparently there were broadcast problems.
