Perfect day for a metric century attempt (75-80 degrees and a good SW wind for a tailwind on the return leg). After 23 miles into the headwind, I paused for a picture at Bonney, TX:
http://home.comcast.net/~kh6idf/Bonney%20TX.jpg Inspecting the tires I found a couple of rock bites, one of which did not look too good, so I decided to turn around and head home. Made it all the way back with no problem but I will replace the tire while they are 40% off at Performance. Total of 47.5 miles today. |
Nice pic and miles........

Mtb ride - 9.7 miles of single track & some double track.
|
2 hours in the trainer class. Hopefully a ride outside tomorrow in the snow.

Went on a 30 mile club ride today. It was supposed to be a sunny day but wasn't; it was near 40 but cloudy and windy.
|
42+ miles with our group for breakfast at Corner Bakery, our standard Saturday ride. Temps rose to the low 60s... perfect riding weather.
|
44 miles on a nice, but chilly day in western Oregon. You've got to make the most of these days without rain, it was a beautiful day to ride.

I rode my Rans Stratus today. It was windy in Beaverton (near Portland, but on the other side of the Portland hills). I had planned an 18-20 mile ride, but after climbing an hour against a 30-50 mph wind (high gusts), I turned around and came back down. I had stopped at one point to look over the valley, and my bike was pushed back over a foot by the wind (as seen by the gouge in the ground from the kickstand). So I ended up with a 12.97 mile ride, but it felt like a 20 mile ride.

First time on a bicycle in a month (unless you count gym bikes). I finally got my winter bike together, studded tires and everything. Just 4 miles up and down the river trail, but it felt like a challenge getting used to riding on snow and ice. (we had 5 inches of snow overnight). tomorrow I'm hoping to do a club ride with my new rig, though it will be cold (probably about 10 °F). We'll see if my gear is up to the challenge.

Managed to get in about 35 miles before the rains came back. Not looking too good for the club ride tomorrow. :(

I managed to go out for my first real winter ride. Did about 25 miles on a slow (B/C) club ride. The ride was very slow, probably not more than 10-12 MPH average. (I don't have a computer on my winter bike). That's kind of horrifying from the point of view of a dedicated A/B roadie, but we were riding on somewhat snowy trails and riding on those 2.1" studded tires is just not going to be swift. Also, I'm not sure I could ride much faster without having serious issues with fogging goggles.
It was about 15 degrees, and a little windy. I had some issues with my fingers and toes, so I will have to reconsider my gear. Anyway, it felt GREAT to be out on a bike. I was reminded that for all my gym work, none of it really feels the same as climbing a hill on a real bike. |
Did 36 miles on Saturday morning with 2 fellow riders on the Upper SART trail from Hidden Valley Wildlife Center to Waterman Avenue. First time on this lovely ride, although the below 50-degree temp when we started made it a bit nippy until the blood began actually moving.

30 miles w/the club, nice at the start but wet at the end.

Rode a pitiful 5 miles today in moderately windy mid-20's this afternoon. Predicted to be cold this week, too.
Brought the trainer in from the garage. Really looking forward to 'riding' the trainer. |

Saturday I went on a Filipino club century but wussed out and only did 75 miles. Still had almost 8000 feet of climbing. Here I'm getting ready to pass one of my Fred bretheren.

Nope, 19degrees, windchill 6 degrees, 2 inches of snow on ground, roads are still clear. Looks like winter has arrived in Dayton, OH.
|
14Km at lunchtime. Temp about 5 C, no wind. Thin clouds.
Brief chat with a woman on a Rivendell Atlantis. Nice bike! |
Had a nice 15km jaunt in about -5c temps (23f) Coldest ride so far this winter, but felt good. Looking forward to when it cools off.

15 mile RT, LBS run to get the front derailer sorted out on my MTB. Did my first "group" MTB ride in 25 years on Sunday and the ft. derailer gave me a lot of problems. LOL, well I've been using my Jamis Durango as "road bike" (converted, tires, full fenders, etc.) since I bought it in 2009 so I haven't really used the "small chain ring much"! ;) Now it's back to full MTB mode so getting fixed was a MUST!

Except for the leader, I'm the only one that showed up for the group ride this morning. The two of us rode 20 miles in 32f, wind and some snow flurries, which I was excited about! I was perfectly comfortable with all the layers I had on.
The route is mostly back-roads except for one highway we have to cross and ride on the shoulder for a short distance before the turn off. We always ride this section as fast as possible. Today we arrived at the intersection just before a group of three young guys, also on bikes. My leader had enough time to say "we gotta look good!" When the light turned green we all accelerated like mad (think: race-like), and ended up riding 2 abreast, boy-girl, boy-girl, with the last boy trailing. When we got across and had to fall in single file, we were boy, boy, girl, girl, boy, going 20+mph. After the exit, my leader and I went back to our 13mph pace and the guys took off. I've been cracking up about it all day! |
