BikeWNC: I did 36 miles on the Parkway as a warmup for MoM as well. I just tried to take it easy and not burn the legs up much. Luckily the stretch I rode south from Rocky Knob wasn't very hilly.
(Yes I'm up at 3:00am because I can't sleep before the ride starts...) Nice ride today but for the last 3 miles which is grin and bear it. It did get pretty hot too climbing up to the lake. |
Six easy miles with my wife and daughter this morning. After lunch 30 miles.
|
Except for a walk with the wife, and some tennis with my son, the last 2 1/2 days have consisted of beer, bbq, and moving at the pace of a sloth. Finally got out this afternoon on the mountainbike for 9 miles on a fast, flowing , up and down single track that washed all the scum out of my system.
Funny, legs felt great, but the heart and lungs took a while to warm up... wonder why? (DOH) |
38 miles on the tandem with wife/stoker today on a club Race Day ride. Almost entirely flat and rural. The corn will not be knee high by the 4th of July this year - because of way too much rain.
|
I rode about a half mile on my MTB for the first time in 7 weeks. Had a prostatectomy 7 weeks ago. All felt good, gonna get the road bike out tomorrow !!!
|
62 miles today after 68 yesterday.
|
My 12 year old daughter and I road to church together. 10 miles, she said it was fun.

I did a personal best 18 miles last Wednesday then 10 on Saturday because I planned to do an 18 mile group ride yesterday. That didn't go well at all. I couldn't keep up with them so I turned around after 3 miles. I was into the anaerobic zone going up the hills and still not making the group's speed so I guess a slower group would be okay.
I went 15 miles this morning (alone) and I feel great. I think I like riding alone better. Rich |
I think I like riding alone better. Regular 20 miles at 6:00 am. THE WIND STOPPED - at least 1/2 way, and it was great. Then a swim at the rec pool on the way home, and now am planting garden stuff with wife (ugh!!) |
39 miles on a club ride today. Just as yesterday, saw lots of as-yet-unplanted acreage north of Indy. Standing water in
some of them. Hot and sunny! |

The hubby, myself & a couple of friends did one of our Tour de Kimball's today. We ride from our house in Nashua to the Kimball's Farm ice cream stand in Westford MA, a total trip of 32 miles. I feel much less guilty eating ice cream when I ride my bike to the ice cream stand! Our friend is taking off to do the Trans America ride next week and was getting in some practice miles on his fully loaded rig. On the way back, we came across the turtle in the road and placed it safely off in the woods, pointed towards a stream. |
43 today, special Memorial Day ride with some friends from the club. That goes with 42 yesterday, and 28 on Saturday. The Saturday miles felt good because it was 96 when I went out, and helped me stretch out after flying home Friday evening from Brazil (there on business).

The wife and I rode to Memorial Park for the Memorial Day Services, then over to the local cemetery to put flowers on my Grandpa's grave in the American Legion Area. At first we got a lot of "funny" looks, showing up in "bicycle clothes", then, it was fine, they were happy we came! 18 miles, 40+ mph winds but sunny and warm.

Day late. I did NOT ride yesterday. Sunday was Mountains of Misery:
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/88856729 Felt pretty strong this year compared to last year. Proper preparation and training pays off. Who would guess? |
11.6 miles this morning.

Yesterday, my wife and I put our bikes on the train and rode to NYC. We rode from Penn Station up to my mother's place on the upper west side. We went through Central Park. Being a warm day and a big holiday, the park was flooded with people, including lots of the type of cyclists who only ride two or three times a year. They were really unruly and unpredictable. It felt more dangerous than riding in traffic until we got farther uptown.
After visiting with my mother, we took the "greenway" along the Hudson River to Greenwich Village and had dinner with my cousins who are visiting from Alaska. We didn't know this, but the restaurant held Drag Queen shows, so that was a treat for my cousins. My 26 year old girl cousin was roped into doing a contest of strutting around. Then the MC (a drag queen) told all the contestants were told to act out a fake orgasm. My cousin couldn't do it in front of her parents, brother and cousins. We respect that, and had a lot of laughs. We rode back to Penn Station and then back up our considerable hill from the Maplewood station to our house. We got back a little after 11pm! Really nice day for a ride, though I sweated profusely and drank several liters of water. |
6:30 am - 20 mile "training ride" - my best close route with significant hills - 8.5 miles of gentle to more steep "up." Cool enough this am for leg warmers and 3 layers on top. Significant wind which added to the cooling.

Today’s ride:
The only notable wildlife sighting was one road kill deer. Left the house at 7:00 AM this morning and rode solo to Panera Bread for my breakfast as usual. From there I went north through Heathrow to SR 46A and then north on Orange Ave to Sylvan Lake Rd. then west to the northern trail head for another break. The county was putting some concrete approaches to the trail extension. The temp was already in the mid 80s when I got back. This has been my best ever mileage month 1006 miles. Statistics for: 05/31/2011 Miles today: 43+ Mileage this month May: 1006+ Mileage this year: 3977+ (56.8 % of my 2011 goal) Over/under riding days 2011 vs. 2010: +7 Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: +1092 miles Average miles per ride this year: 40+ Average miles per ride this month: 45.7+ Number of ride days this month: 22 Number of rides over 50 miles this month: 7 Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000: 3022, and an 8,500 mile year (would be my best ever) is not out of reach. Tomorrow will be at least a 50 mile ride…. |
Forgot to mention - I was observed for some time by a coyote on a hill. Makes one a bit uncomfortable!

I felt much, much better yesterday, so I put in 50 miles with three friends, as I had hoped to be able to do. Today I reacquainted myself with another, old friend, my Cannondale M500, and put 20 miles of climbing in on her. She's heavy, but steady, and she climbs well!

Nope. Did a hard/fast 100mi solo yesterday. So today is a rest day.
SP Bend,OR |
51 this morning @ 16.9 average, with a group from the club.
|
24 miles solo today at a brisk (for me)14.5 mph AVS. Felt really good after two days of not riding and the weather could not have been nicer after yesterday's heat. Looking forward to Thursday nights group ride.
