The daily 30 mile ride at the wilderness MUP. Beautiful day for riding. The winds are starting to die down after the last four days of very strong winds.
|
Arrgghh! ...I hate a headwind on my morning commute!

Couldn't ask for a nicer day to ride... Weather was prefect!! Intervals & Sprints. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/156081807 |
I got out for a half hour ride this afternoon. 78 degrees and a mild wind.
Just a beautiful day here in So. Cal.. |
Beautiful warm and sunny day with calm wind today in Middle Georgia. I made a quick exit from work and met 5 friends from the club for a 31 mile out and back ride with some hills.

What an awesome day in Los Angeles. It was sunny, not too warm, and reasonably clear.
I rode, with a friend, 22 miles through the Griffith Park area in Los Angeles. We climbed and descended 2533 in those 20 miles. Some of that included a 23% grade for a short distance - 50 yards or so? - on Green Oak Drive. We also visited the Griffith Park Observatory, where news trucks were set up to do pieces about the solar flares that are reaching our planet. After my friend Jim went home, I drove to my home for an hour's break. Then I rode another 10 miles, which included a couple of runs up to the wonderful Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook, in Culver City - 300 feet in .6 miles. That gave me 30 miles and 3,000 feet of climbing for the day. |
I wasn't going to ride today because of my 100K charity ride tomorrow but my son-in-law's best friend called me and wanted to know if I would like to join him for a ride. Met at the wilderness MUP and did 18 very fast paced miles, doing springs and intervals, before he had to go to work. Cool morning temps and not much wind this morning; just the way I like it.

My son is home from college, and I anticipate doing the Yellow Lot club ride in the morning with him. It really doesn't get any better than that.

60 miles, light winds It was all I wanted for today.

25 miles, a sunny day, but with a "CHILLY" constant wind, mixed route of MUPS and streets. The weekend is looking pretty good, hoping the wife and I can put in a ride on both day! :)

Cold, windy, wet 25. Glad I hung onto my aluminum bike for days like this.

Did a charity ride to support one of the local Alzheimer organizations this morning. Nice and cool the entire 62 miles with overcast skies up till the last 10 miles when the overcast started breaking up.
RANT: It was a great ride but very disorganized on their part for the cycling portion. They were suppose to have a free pancake and sausage breakfast for all the runners and riders starting at 7:00 am. At 7:30, they hadn't started up the grill - no time for breakfast. Riders for the 50 and 100K rides were to leave at 8:00 am in a single group. My team, and several other riders, were hanging around to find out where we were to group at and they finally tell us riders can leave any time they want. Over half of the riders were already on the trial. This was the first charity ride where the registered riders were not wearing ID numbers on their jersey. The ride went from a MUP in a wilderness park to a MUP along the Suncoast Parkway. Both the park trail and the Suncoast Trail was open to everyone so you didn't know who was doing the charity ride and wasn't. No signs in the park to let non-participants know that there was a charity ride going on so there was a lot of kids just riding around and darting in front of the charity riders. There was suppose to be two SAG stations, one at the 15 mile marker and the other at the 30 mile marker. Got to the the 15 mile SAG station, they hadn't set up yet. The people manning it were waiting for the truck with the tent and food to show up. Other than that, it went great! Rant Over. |
NealH and I rode 50 miles around a local valley today in perfect riding conditions. It was a hellish ride with many 10-18% grades. My Garmin shows 3900' of climbing while Neal's has 4000'. It doesn't matter because it wasn't the 100' difference that hurt my legs. I had to listen to a creaky BB on my Tarmac for much of the ride too. Maybe the creak took my attention away from my gasps for air. Got to love these early season rides!

I crushed a soul today.
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...A/62336eda.jpg I cooked him and he knew it. I'd appreciate it if anyone familiar with the area doesn't mention that he was slowing for the McAlpine locks: http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...A/9c5cda69.jpg Someone about a month or two took pictures of the Tom Edison House. Here in Loovul we have the original: http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...A/6759441b.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...A/8b9849dc.jpg I did not know that Edison got his big start by being fired from his day job in Loovul. Learn something every day. Anyway, today was supposed to be a recovery ride, but with Strava you never know: http://app.strava.com/rides/5027157 On one segment I'm something like 59th out of 65 riders. I'd like to shake the hands of anyone slower than I am. |

I rode the 50 mile route of the St. Patrick's Ride in Dublin, GA. The traditional kickoff of riding season for many around here. Came up a couple of miles short, but no one complained about that on such a windy day. New route and I didn't like it much. Far too much highway, although it was 4 lane so traffic gave us a lane.

A head cold kept me off the bike for the last 2 weeks. Today was great. Sunny weather in the 40's. 25 to 30 miles along the Cuyahoga River Valley. Forest and river scenery to feed my soul.
|
24 miles, with the wife on MUPS and streets, also a stop at the LBS to get new "tires" for the wife's road bike! Quite chilly wind, picked up on the return trip and of course, it's a HEADWIND! ;)
|
Very nice 20 mile ride on a beautiful not-quite-Spring day - sunny and in the 50's.
|
Wife and I rode the Solvang (CA) 100K today (69 miles). Bit chilly at the start, but we were down to bibs and jerseys the last hour.

It wasn't as warm as it looked, but it was still a pleasant day riding in my new favorite area of Montgomery and Frederick Counties in MD:
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/156595057 Ended up with 78 miles. I would have made it a century but I wanted to save a little bit in the legs for Sunday, where I do have a full century planned (and it should be 15 degrees warmer!) That will be my first century ride of the year. Because of the mild winter, I am way ahead of my pace both in miles and in climbing than any spring in the last five years. Gotta get ready for Mountains of Misery! |
Saturday and sunday had the first rides on a roadbike this year. Great weather and very happy to let the studded tires rest. Cold nights makes it a bad idea to commute without them for a while yet though.
|
25 miles today in splendid 55 to 60f weather. The warm sun felt great and I explored a new-to-me bike path that was safe & fast.
|
First time this year. Lovely weather. Bit of a head wind. Good to be back on the saddle.

Today we did 40.12 miles on the tandem. Nearly 60 degrees in New England on march 11? Let us hope the benevolent weather won't be so aggressively warm come July. But it was great for biking today!
Our band had a gig last night so we had a late start (and less energy that we might otherwise). Nevertheless, three of us band members, Rich (our banjo player and a cyclist from long ago) and Sharon (my sweetie from long ago and now) and myself, had planned to ride, so ride we did. Rich rode the Raleigh International he found in a dumpster many years ago. We rode the Peugeot tandem I rebuilt last winter. Part of the ride took us along Battlefield Road where the British column marched from Boston to Concord and then back to Boston, April 19, 1775, essentially the opening hostilities of the American Revolution. We first stopped for a bite to eat in Lexington, not far from where the British column was first intercepted by the Lexington militia. http://users.rcn.com/jimmuller/pics/RichSharonJim.jpg Here is a rest stop closer to Concord, where the British raided a few farms and then decided it might be prudent to head back to Boston. http://users.rcn.com/jimmuller/pics/atMeriamsCorner.jpg http://users.rcn.com/jimmuller/pics/...amsCorner2.jpg And at the North Bridge park HQ, just to show off the bike: http://users.rcn.com/jimmuller/pics/atNorthBridgeHQ.jpg |
