Okay, so.... you win.

You guys are awesome!! I'm 55, overweight, out of shape, and haven't ridden in years. Bought an Electra Townie 21d last Saturday. I can barely make it one mile in my hilly neighborhood. I have ridden at least once every morning and afternoon since the day I got my bicycle. A year from now I want to be able to post about my 20+ mile ride! Thanks for the inspiration!
|
Started with morning stretches, 90 second planks, one-legged bridges and 50 (20, 20, 10) full body dips. 25 mile ride finished by a 40 minute swim - the outdoor pool is now open for laps, and I enjoy it so much more than the indoor pool.

Also, as far as the 1 mile is concern, I am a FIRM believer, that EVERYTHING STARTS with the #1.. The first mile, the first repetiton, etc.. BTW, last year, I started with 1 bike, now I got 7 or 8...;) |
This was a sweet utitlity ride...:D
My F150 had to go into the shop for a tune up, and front struts..I put the bike rack on the back of the F150, put my Raleigh Prestige on it, and drove the 15 miles to the service shop.. At the shop, took the Prestige off the rack, gave the F150 to the mechanics, and rode the 15 miles back home. Sweet ride..;) |

Today’s ride:
Left the house at 7:00 AM this morning and met my friend Phil at the Seminole Wekiva Trail Head. We rode to Panera Bread and took a water break but no breakfast for a change. From Panera we took the trail north to the Sylvan Lake trail head for our second break then turned around and headed home. One of the local community magazines contacted me yesterday, they plan to do a feature article on the trails here in Seminole county. They conducted an interview with me and will do some photos next week. I guess I am a celebrity now (in my own eyes at least).:lol: Statistics for: 06/03/2011 Miles today: 41+ Mileage this month May: 100+ Mileage this year: 4077+ (58.2 % of my 2011 goal) Over/under riding days 2011 vs. 2010: +8 Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: +1142 miles Average miles per ride this year: 39.7+ Average miles per ride this month: 50+ Number of rides over 50 miles this month: 1 Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000: 2922, and an 8,500 mile year (would be my best ever) is not out of reach. |
18 miles up the hilly MUT's to the "recumbent specific" shop called: Angletech, to see if they might have a set of platform pedals that will accept "Power Straps".
|
52 miles in The Hot Texas Sun.
|
66 miles in a very pleasant day, although it did warm a bit. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/89887186

Your 20 mile ride will probably be inside of a year if you keep at it. Congrats!! Oh, and rode yesterday, again tomorrow. Working a fishing tournament today. |
Do you know if either RtR or BTC goes by these the next couple weeks? If so I'll get that view firsthand You'll pass four ski areas on the ascent / descent though A-Basin is the only one that's still open. I'm staying at the base of the pass in Keystone ski area this weekend, so I'll be climbing it today and tomorrow. Enjoy the Tour's ! Tom |
I'll be resting today. Last night on a whim (supposed to have been resting from a 30miler the day before where I did the front 15mi in 57min)....and blame it on this forum....I grabbed the gloves, helmet and bike, shot off across town on a 10mi sprint. Was hitting 20+mph on the front 5mi and coming back was anywhere between 14 and 18mph.
Ok, today I'm resting. Time to plan a 60miler in a few days. This is fun. |

Today’s ride:
Left the house at 7:00 AM this morning and met up with Jim and Dick at the Seminole Wekiva Trail Head. We rode to Panera Bread and took a water break and had some breakfast. While we were at Panera Dicks son Chris joined us. Today is Dick and his son’s birthday, one is 66 and the other is 38. From Panera we rode north to the horse farms then west to the Sylvan Lake Trail Head. After a short break we headed south and home. Statistics for: 06/04/2011 Miles today: 53+ Mileage this month May: 153+ Mileage this year: 4131+ (59 % of my 2011 goal) Over/under riding days 2011 vs. 2010: +7 Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: +1166 miles Average miles per ride this year: 39.7+ Average miles per ride this month: 51+ Number of rides over 50 miles this month: 2 Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000: 2869, and an 8,500 mile year (would be my best ever) is not out of reach. |

I had a great 55 mile ride with a new cycling acquaintance. We traveled north from Chicago trying to stay out of the 15 mph head-wind. We then came back from Lake Bluff making every effort to benefit from the tail wind. The return pace was rapid and a little cooling was also available as we travel along the shoreline. Great summer weekend riding! I expect to ride with this recent collage grad on a regular basis. Holding the wheel of a Look TT bike ridden by a triathlete half my age should be a challenge. |
Rode the Murray's Mill Metric with NealH this morning. Pretty day for a ride as we finished before the heat got too bad. We worked in a group for the first 30.5 miles and 1000' of climbing in 1:28 ride time for a 20.5mph average. Considering the slow rollout and several stops at road intersections that isn't too bad. That group all seemed to quit at the 30 mile mark so Neal and I were on our own for the next 34 miles. We dialed it back a bit and finished the 64.4 miles and 2400' of climbing in 3:28 ride time/ 3:35 total time.
I could still feel last weekend's effort on the Mountains of Misery Century in my legs today but overall it was a good training ride. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/90092448 |
81.5 @ 15.9 ave today. The club ride was 42 miles, so I tacked on some extra to log some miles before the Grand Tour Double Century on June 25. Since we leave at 6 am now, I got in the miles by 1215, including the coffee stop and shooting the breeze at the park afterwards. It was the Moon Valley ride, AzTallRider. Hoping to ride with the Bullshifters next week.

Rode 48 HOT miles today on the B&O Tour, starting in and returning to Brownsburg IN.

Cut grass, trimmed walks and raked leaves in late morning/early afternoon... a 95 high in muggy southwest Georgia today. Brought my bike inside after lunch and installed my new Brooks B17 (replacing an Avocet), new handlebar tape and a new Cateye wireless computer.
Did an 18 mile spin in late afternoon.... while riding I clocked from one mile marker on the side of the road to the next... and the Cateye said 9.49 at the 1st one and 10.49 at the 2nd one - COOL! The B17? It feels like chocolate syrup over vanilla ice cream after the Avocet! Smooooooooooooooooooth... my first time with a Brooks and my hindquarters have already thanked me! :-) Gary |
