30 mile club ride on a hot (95F) afternoon. I had a good ride going for the first 10 miles, setting a personal best time to the top of "off the wall" before backing off a bit to pace the small B group the rest of the way. I was soaked in sweat and worn out when we finished. I probably won't ride again before the first day of BRAG coming Sunday.

Your body made a wise decision overruling your brain!! I listen to my bod very, very carefully.

12.2 miles @ 19.0 this morning.

YokeyDokey 06-01-11 12:26 PM

I plan to ride at least 25 miles tonight in 95+ degree heat. This may be our last time together, I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have... who wants the Ridley? Just kidding, I don't have a Ridley.

Today’s ride:

Left the house at 7:00 AM this morning and met my friend Jim at the Seminole Wekiva Trail Head. We rode to Panera Bread for breakfast as usual. From there we went north through Heathrow to SR 46A and then north on Orange Ave. to SR 17/92. We crossed the St Johns river and turned into Lake Monroe Park where we picked up the Spring to Spring Trail. This trail is about 5 miles long and is very pretty and ends at the DeBary Mansion in Volusia County. From that point we turned around and headed back to Sylvan Lake Road then west to the SWT northern trail head for another break. About a half mile before we got to the trail head it started to rain and continued to lightly rain on us all the way home. It was still a good ride and gets me off to a good start for this month.

History lesson:

DeBary Hall was the winter retreat of a European-born wine merchant who chose the St. Johns River country for his hunting estate. Beginning in the 1870s, New Yorker Frederick DeBary acquired lands near Lake Monroe, built a large vacation house, and tried his hand at orange growing and commercial steamboating.
But above all, this Florida estate became a center of sport hunting and hospitality. Entertainment,” said one relative, “was a very simple matter at DeBary Hall. Most guests were asked because they enjoyed the out of doors, with swimming, hunting, and fishing
When DeBary’s last American heir died in 1941, the retreat had grown to more than 6,000 acres with many outbuildings. Today’s historic site is a little smaller—ten acres. But it still includes the 8,000-square-foot main house, stables and other structures, plus artifacts from a kind of working farm, even if the crops were bobwhite quail.

Statistics for: 06/01/2011
Miles today: 58+
Mileage this month May: 58+
Mileage this year: 4035+ (57.6 % of my 2011 goal)
Over/under riding days 2011 vs. 2010: +7
Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: +1101 miles
Average miles per ride this year: 39.7+
Average miles per ride this month: 58.8+
Number of rides over 50 miles this month: 1
Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000: 2964, and an 8,500 mile year (would be my best ever) is not out of reach.

Did my usual ride today. Thought about doing an additional lap around Stone Mountain but the temps were already getting up there so decided to head home before it got too hot. It was 94F when I got home.

Since summer is here I guess I'll have to ride earlier in the day. :o

BR46 06-01-11 04:23 PM

No.
Just a little windy out today. 25 mph wind with gust up to 40 mph

rck 06-01-11 04:47 PM

10 miles on the Badger trail which is reasonably well protected from the wind.

LAriverRat 06-01-11 07:45 PM

51 miles, return trip into 8 to 15 mph head/sidewind with gusts up to enough to move me side ways(220 pounds of me and the bike). Had to lean my bike over some. Water in the riverbed had whitecaps at times. Sunny, all clouds had been blown away by the time i reached my turnaround point. 74 degrees but was cooler. I was happy i wore tights and long sleeve under layer. Still avg 16.7 mph.

CbadRider 06-01-11 09:24 PM

I got off work to find that I had yet another flat. Of course it was the rear tire. :notamused:

At least it was at work and not by the side of the road with cars whizzing past.

JimF22003 06-02-11 04:05 AM

2 miles from the Honda dealership to the office. Shortest. Ride. Ever.

teachme 06-02-11 06:52 AM

11 miles this morning at a 13.3 mph avg.:ride:

YokeyDokey 06-02-11 07:13 AM

I rode 30 miles last night and then got nauseous after downing four taquitos and a handful of Cheetos. Not sure what made me sick, the heat (it was over 90) or dinner. But it didn’t feel hot as long as I was moving, and the air was full of sweet summer fragrances.

sarals 06-02-11 02:23 PM

I did. 37 miles, 14.6 average. Starting to feel almost normal again!

6-7 miler with my son... mountain bike. What a work out. As usual bruses, scrapes and cuts. Always head home to the wife with blood dripping down my leg(s). With about 5 crashes I survived and enjoyed every minute of the ride.

Can't wait for the next road ride!!!

DnvrFox 06-02-11 03:23 PM

6 am 20 miles windy again

JanMM 06-02-11 07:11 PM

9 miles yesterday after work. Quality, not quantity. (I rode harder than usual.)
Behaved like a Bike Commuter today which was good for a 19 mile round trip.

teachme 06-02-11 07:50 PM

15 miles this evening at 15.3mph. I'm getting stronger!:giver:

jppe 06-02-11 08:30 PM

A short solo ride late in the day of 34 miles. The temps were in the mid 90's but it felt great as long as I was moving. I took it really easy with the heat and averaged around 18 mph. Trying to taper before Colorado....

Boy it sure looks to be a warm week for you guys down that way doing BRAG! Have fun and drink plenty!!

OldsCOOL 06-02-11 09:15 PM

Did a 30 miler on the bike path (not really conducive to a good pace at some points) this afternoon. The best part was doing the first 15 miles in 57 minutes. This was supposed to be my medium distance day once per week but turned into an all out assault on the front half. Not bad considering I did a 50 on monday in the 94deg heat.

Doohickie 06-02-11 10:26 PM

38 mile round trip commute today. 17 miles to work this morning, then 21 home including a stop for dinner. Took the time to snap a pic.
