42 miles in Z2 with three riding buddies. Great evening for cycling in NE Ohio it was over all too quickly.
|
Meant to ride but instead put new tires on our tandem, adjusted the headset of my SWB 'bent, then..............rode a couple of miles entirely within our subdivision.

34 miles tonight. Unfortunately, at the 20-mile point, I dove into a corner and something went BANG! It was a spoke on the front wheel. I've got 24 spokes, but it's a low enough count that the wobble was pretty bad. Had to wave the group goodbye and nurse it back to the parking lot. Dang! And I was doing pretty well up to that point!

Got in a very short ride after work today, accompanied by my oldest son. I had him ride my old road bike ('88 Nishiki) for a change as he's only ridden mountain bikes to this point. First thing we had to discuss and practice was stopping without falling over(!) which he managed to do a couple of times. He wanted to remain on the saddle, like on a MTB, but I had to explain why that was a bad idea. The Nishiki has toe clips, which he couldn't manage very well, so the straps were dragging the ground most of the ride. We rode back and forth in our neighborhood until he felt comfortable enough to take the road. I explained how to use the downtube shifters, but he eventually shifted to a mid-range gear and stayed there most of the ride. I encouraged him to try and draft me when we encountered headwinds, but I think he was a little nervous. He rode pretty confidently after the midway point and was able to keep up, although I was riding a leisurely 12-13 mph. I had him lead a few times to check his technique. At this point he's almost a masher. I estimated his cadence at about 70 rpm. I kept asking him about his knees, but his only complaint was sore wrists and a sore butt! The bike is set up for me, but I thought it was close enough for him when we started out, as we're almost the same build (except he's 70 lbs lighter!). I think he was putting too much weight on his hands, so we'll modify the seat position and try again next week after I'm back from a business trip. It was really great to ride with him. He's been away at a residential HS for 2 years, and will be leaving for college in the fall. It would be really nice if we could do some distance riding this summer. I need to encourage my youngest son to ride also. Good reason for N+1+1, if you ask me! :)

52 miles today. Since i am a geezer i am going to do about 10 to 14 mile warm ups before i start my "ride". I did this today with good results.
|
First, I soloed 12 miles and 1600 feet R/T into the Santa Monica Mountains last this afternoon.
Tonight I rode with about ten young people from Mike's bike shop, on Pico Blvd. in Los Angeles. We rode about 18 miles through west Los Angeles, through the UCLA campus, and east on famed Sunset Blvd. (past the Mansion where Gloria Swanson announced "I'm ready for my close-up"), then we swooped down into West Hollywood and back to Mike's shop before calling it quits at 9:30. |
Went to the team ride tonight. Had a good turn out in part due to the State Championship Road Race on Sunday. 37 miles at Z3 in a pace line with a group of 11 was nice.
|
38 miles. added a smallish loop to a normal route to add a steepup hill. Doing so I got to go down another hill and reached 45 mph!
|
I have not in a few days. A good friends grandbaby died in a freak accident. Riding has been put on temporary hold.
|
Went with my wife to pick strawberry's this morning then rode home on the bike nice and easy. Just under 14 miles @ 15.1 mph.

21.5 miles home to the Esplanade in Boston (and back of course). Took the Pug today. Kinda' glad I did because some of the bike path is pretty beat up. It was a pleasant hour and half.
|
52 miles to day. Heavy clouds, 64 degrees, June gloom. Tried a slightly different route today. A few less miles on public streets.
|
Toronto Island ride, 22km with my SO, Hanlans Point to the Centreville Pier, over to the old Dock on Wards Island, then back via Centreville to Hanlan's Point.
|
28 miles on the tandem including 3333' of elevation gain most of which is in a 12 mile stretch. Perfect day for riding.
|
Got out with my wife and our daughter's gym coach for a 5.5 mile climb on the BRP this morning. They both rode a steady pace and will easily make it the full 8.7 miles to the summit next time. We turned around when the clouds descended and visibility decreased. 11 miles total, a bit more for me because I rode a few intervals up and back to them.

2 hour Z2 ride today for a light aerobic ride before tomorrow's 52 mile race. Was a hot/humid 87 degrees with a few spritz of H2O. Average speed was 19.0. I usually average about 19.5+ on a Z2 ride so I'm happy with the lower pace. The battery in the HRM strap died early on so I used PE and speed to limit the effort.

I did 16.618 miles, the most I've ever done. It was 89 degrees and the humidity was 79% with a light wind of 3 mph. Mostly Z2 with a pace of 10.4. VO2 Max was 67 and the Watts was 166.92. Ave HR was 107. The humidity was a killer and the temp was 91 by the time I finished. My total ride time was 1:36:16.

I'm in Winnipeg for a few days for training. Thursday and Friday were rainy, so I didn't ride. Today was overcast and threatening rain, but I got in a nice 20km ride.
My morning training session tomorrow is only 3 hrs and the weather looks promising, so I feel a good ride comming on. Here's a shot from todays ride. http://i48.tinypic.com/uxqu.jpg |

I got out for about 3 1/2 hours this morning, before my girls woke up. It was wonderful. Pretty much the first weekend we've had this year with decent weather and no threat of rain. I should have cleaned the bike I took out out Thursday night for a group ride, and got caught in the hail storm, but I decided to go for a ride instead. I'll clean the 'Peg tomorrow. |
<5 miles on the tandem with wife/stoker today - just starting to get back to putting miles on the tandem after her surgery 2 mo. ago.
We're aiming for Day 2 of the Hilly Hundred this year. I ride by myself on Day 1. After the tandem ride, got in about 15 miles on the LWB 'bent. Omigod, was it hot and humid. Not so bad except for waiting to cross a major highway with a looooong red light for cross roads. |

42 miles with my son-in-law. The wind in the Sacramento valley was brutal today.
