Hey, thanks everyone!

I only did 11 miles today, I was under the gun time wise, and I wanted to get a bike/swim/bike in, and I did.

This afternoon I fiddled around with the Centurion road bike on of my girl friends owns (another thread has details on that pretty old bike) - I may ride it this evening!

Got in a nice 50-miler Sunday... the afternoon temp was actually below 100! At the halfway point I rested on a park bench and watched kids play at the base of Pinnacle Mountain. A tike sized me up and then asked his daddy why I was wearing those funny looking clothes. Some days I ask myself that same question... you know, like, why do Houston Astros players wear their kit.

Last night, on the old Spec'd Sequoia in Burns Park, I had to brake for a raccoon. It looked at me just like that little kid did.

Did a solo 105 mile ride today. The weather was made for cycling - 60F at start and 82 at finish, light SE winds, fluffy clouds.

Franky 08-16-11 08:40 PM

nope...at 106 degrees outside, on the chancey side of things.

Yesterday, 08/16, I rode 54.13 miles. That included 3000 feet of climbing, and a standing start sprint to 30.2 MPH. The average speed was low, 13.4 MPH, because it was a social ride with the group. I had NO issues at all, as I said to everyone "I've picked up where I left off"! Oh, I've still got some fitness to get back, and more improvement after that, but I'm getting back very quickly. Ahhhhh!!!

alanknm 08-17-11 10:11 AM

Glad to hear that you're back on the rails !

alanknm 08-17-11 10:30 AM

Between work, rain, taking up a second sport and other comittments (in no particular order) this slacker started feeling itchy to be moving around and got back in the saddle.

Fri 20.3 miles
Sat 18 miles
Sun 30.3 miles
Tue 42.43 miles

Nothing fancy or fast, average speed 14.8 - 15.5 mph, 20-23 mph on the flats. Just enjoying the nice weather since I'll be out of town to attend a wedding over the weekend. I might be able to squeeze in a ride before I go up to the cottage for a three weeks of kayaking, fishing, catching up on a years worth of reading and doing nothing in no specific order. I was thinking of taking the bikes up with me but there's no room since we didn't get a chance last month to bring up the pair of sea kayaks that are now sitting in my backyard so it's all upper body workouts for the next three weeks.

Thank you!!! It's great to be back.

No riding since Sunday and another crappy afternoon today. It's not raining yet, but the sky is very dark and it's thundering somewhere close by. I should know better than to complain, as this "rain every day" season happens every year around this time.

15 miles on the 'bent today. The Lemond is in the shop having the front wheel bearings rebuilt.

Barrettscv 08-17-11 03:13 PM

Had a short-but-fast bike ride in ideal weather today. 28 miles in 1 hour 30 minutes. That’s a benchmark for me.

JanMM 08-17-11 07:45 PM

Didn't ride yesterday.:(
Got out for a brisk-by-my-standards 9 mile ride this evening.:)

BikeWNC 08-17-11 08:33 PM

I did my standard evening climb again today. I worked really hard, hr into the 180s, for very little result. Two months ago I was 9 min faster on the same climb and with a much lower RPE and hr. My advice, don't take two months off the bike in the middle of the summer. Trying to come back from both a winter and summer layoff in the same year is difficult.

We kicked up the weekly Wednesday ride today, adding a few miles and a lot more climbing. A couple of the guys were really pushing me on the climbs. Overall avg. speed was nothing to brag about as we did a lot of waiting for a new guy who was struggling a bit on the hills, but we all got a good workout.

Yesterday was commute day, so I did 30 total.
A cute thing happened on my way into work. There was a construction zone and one lane was closed. I rolled to a stop in front of the flagger, and from around the corner came 2 guys on their bikes, as they passed me, one guy smiled and said "That's a first - waiting for bicycles!" Those 2 guys were the only traffic and I, on my bike, was the only one waiting.

teachme 08-18-11 07:34 AM

12 miles to the river and back, also up and down the hill 10 times.

cccorlew 08-18-11 09:15 AM

On my daily commute, as I waiting in the left turn lane, a fat woman in a big blue van in the far lane of the cross traffic managed to lean out her window and scream "Sidewalk, *******, sidewalk."

I was impressed she even saw me at all, and impressed I could understand her screaming at 35 mph from that distance.
But I wondered why she even cared. I wasn't affecting her at all, I was entirely legal and we're really not supposed to be on the side WALK at all anyway.

Fell off my bike a month ago and sprained my ankle. I didn't realize how much a ankle is used in cycling before now. Last night I cleaned the bike, aired up the tires, serviced the chain and charged the batteries for a ride this AM but the ankle is still not being nice to me. Maybe Friday??

Some people just need somebody to hate. Sad.

Great little story! Made me smile.

About 6-7 miles with Grampa this morning. The humidity was demotivating to say the least. We took some roads we don't usually use, and the change of scene was nice. The road follows a clifftop above the river, and I was tempted to stop and sit on the guard rail to enjoy the view, but Grampa was pedaling along far ahead. Maybe another time.

Must depend on the area. In Austin (TX), it's perfectly permissible to ride a bike on the sidewalk except for 11 places (all downtown) that city ordinance specifically prohibits by block number. University of Texas has different rules, though.

Doohickie 08-18-11 11:37 AM

44 miles on the hybrid last night. First a group ride,

11 mile lake neighborhood route. Chip and seal roads with a lot of up and down action. Total circuit training. Saw two turtles.
Hey! I turn 50 in November, am I too early to be in here? If I am, see you in a few months!

Heck, I don't turn 49 for another month and a half yet....
