I rode for 22. 3 miles this morning. I was on the road by 7:15 am.
|
First time on Whittemore Gulch Trail in the Purisima Creek OSP... great for views, not great for my fear of height…was not terrible, but I had to walk some exposed sections. Took lots of photos. only a few here. Only saw 4 cyclists in the 4 hours. Though lots of hikers.
Some steep sections!! Maps show one climb at 20+% or 27% (depending on the app)... the photo of bike on ground. I made that climb. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...abf9e64e7d.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8f57e5a30c.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...fe333c44e4.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0c85a42e39.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...79f66f776a.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0d36ce07cc.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c9f8948919.png |
My usual loops around the Yoyogi Park cycling course. It is nice to have a shady place to ride with a smooth surface, and no vehicles or traffic lights. It's where I go when want to put in kilometers quickly.
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...58ff2868ed.png I did the same ride on Thursday, and my legs felt like spaghetti. Today's ride was faster, so I rewarded myself with a very unhealthy lunch. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...27b1185e3.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ad18b8049.jpeg |

I was out this morning and got a 22.8 mile ride in. The weather was beautiful for riding such a nice day to be out.
|
|
6 miles today in 35 minutes. One of these days I'm going to remember to take a picture.
|
|
1st ride out at 5:50am in cool 73℉ air for 38.38 miles
2nd ride out at 10:30am in warmer 81℉ air for 7.07 miles |
I had to get out early this morning due to the forecast being hot and humid today. I rode for 20.8 miles so I won and not those weather people.
|
Did my regular Sunday ride with my old half marathon partner and we did an extra 3 miles by taking a lap around the neighborhood. I did tolerable keeping up with a triathlete 40 years younger than me.
|
Not today (5/24)- only time we didn't see rain so far was on the way to church this morning. Looks like INDY has resumed, so guess their rain has moved out so the race could be resumed. BUT--tomorrow (5/25) is supposed to be clear so I have a route planned should the weather forecast hold. Should the forecast be correct, will be posting about a ride tomorrow (hopeful!) I should cut grass as it may be the only clear day for a while--but it ain't happenin'!!

Out at 4:44am this morning for 4.44 warm miles at 78℉ Wife wanted a sweet potato for dinner tonight so got back out 1:32pm for 4.44 miles only this time it was 94℉ |
Did a short 14 mile loop yesterday (5/24/26), from the bay to Lake Whatcom and back, most of it along a rail trail:
Railroad Trail - Bellingham, WA |
Weather radar showed a gap; my radar-fu analysis said it wouldn't start raining for an hour, so I decided to get out and ride.
But what Click and Clack (the Tapped Brothers) used to call Aging Adult Attention Deficit Disorder (AAADD) struck on the way out the door. Needed to put up the inner tubes I patched last night; put ice cubes in the bottles, but the new fridge's top door shelf seemed high for to look in the ice bucket, so I moved it down to the bottom shelf. Then when I emptied the ice cube trays out, dumped five cubes on the floor. :( So moved the ice bucket back up. By then Dear Daughter face timed my wife, so I stopped to chat with her and the grandkids. The unofficial acting rain bike hadn't been ridden for most of a month, so I had to pump up the tires. 20 minutes later, started riding, the sun had come out and was shining, so maybe I didn't read the radar right. Right? Halfway through the planned one hour ride, a fire truck was coming up behind me, with traffic slowing in the left lane and the turn lane, so I cruised to the other side of the intersection and pulled over to let it pass. The fire truck's traffic light changer for the next intersection had everything heading north, my way, green, so I tried to sprint to catch it, but dang it, it changed before I got there and then stayed red for 2.5 minutes. (Yes, it's really that long!) And I noticed the sun wasn't shining brightly. Down south, it looked like a big dark rain cloud coming. Uh-oh! Sure enough, I was right and the rain started one hour after I looked at the weather radar. 15 minutes from home. This is only the second time I've ridden in a shower like that in the almost-a-year since I retired and didn't ignore such things during a commute. Well, it was only a tenth of an inch, just enough to get wet. I'll try to dry the so-called "rain bike" off so it doesn't rust. And maybe I'll find a bigger hole in the radar for the next 2-3 days. |
YAY! The rain held off today (5/25) so we got a 15-mile ride in. Had another 8 miles (or more) planned and my wife said she would wait but didn't want to go further and I didn't want to make her wait while I kept riding. 15 miles was fine though, felt good and saw a couple of people that I hadn't seen for a while. Seems like my wife and I are the last of our old bunch who aren't riding e-bikes. Very humid, but only close to 80 so was bearable. Rain in the forecast for at least the next 2 days so I'm glad we got a ride done.

SO and I did a 25 mi. Ebike ride to the Santa Barbara Mission for the Annual 'I Madonnari' Street Chalk Painting event. 40th year of it...
It's always Wonderful and this year was a great variety of beautiful work, done by very accomplished artists from the very young to the very mature... It is, of course, well attended and it started Thursday afternoon thru whenever the chalk art remains on the 'canvas'... However no 'traffic' allowed on the canvas until after Memorial day... There's a large 'canvas' just below the steps of the Mission, which isn't designated for any motor vehicle traffic... Along with Music and vendor food of all sorts, event items and areas for any 'child' to try their hand at chalk art... It IS one of those things which ties me to this community, of arts and culture - both classic and just neighborly togetherness... Enjoy... and more on/about SB 'i Madonnari' : https://ccp.sbceo.org/i-madonnari/welcome https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...145f070c1c.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...070441621e.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4b24b481a1.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...386c0043df.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...cbdd95b10b.jpg Ride On Yuri |

I rode for 16.6 miles this morning and met my family at the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shop. That was an awesome meeting place.
I also rode Saturday for 22 miles along the Lemoille river trail. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4b9c75e4c.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4ed00b4a0.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...54c0919f9.jpeg |
Memorial Day ride, nearby. I was not a long ride but a little different than normal for me. Headed over to the adjacent Foothill Park in Palo Alto, to explore and I found something interesting aninterpretive center with some local animals and birds. the ride was 14 miles and 2300+ feet elev gain, 75% was trail, and the remaining was paved.

Rode 30 miles, somewhat along the Mississippi. Feeling better all the time, building stamina back up. |
Snagged up on this old Raleigh Team USA yesterday so I took it with me to a small, local lake to ride it as is after my run before tearing it down. Had I not ran first I would have rode this a lot longer than I did.
