But I was a bit disappointed in my performance. I attempting to slowly increase my avg mph. I am not going for "race status", but would like to be able to ride with my local bike shop group. They ave 18-19 on a 30 mile route. My "best" split was 17.5. I checked tire pressure when I got home and they were only at 2/3 max. That might have contributed to it a bit. I sure would be happy if I could avg 18mph on 25 mile ride.

Riding with your LBS group now, even last in line, will do wonders for you. Pump up those tires and GO FOR IT!

Super hot hereabouts last weekend, so we stuck to the coast. I think we did about 75 miles with 6500 feet of climbing.

We started heading East on Pacific Coast Highway ... right past Jim Rockford's hood. I couldn't see his trailer, though.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...ps3nlryi6w.jpg

From there we did a warm, steep climb up Las Flores. Definitely "standing up" territory.

But it was all worth it for the descent on the other side.

We had time enough to play in the fountain at Calamigos Ranch ... boy, was that refreshing.

Then a long descent down to the beach and back to the start.

Decided to get after it today 25.7 miles @ 18mph with 843 feet 89 deg. I generally can't manage that avg speed on a solo ride so it kind of made my day. Weighed in at 159.2 lbs this morning which is the lightest I've been as long as I can remember.

Great pics Biker395!

I got out for 43.7 on Saturday and 50.5 yesterday.

I rode today... and had fun.

Air quality advisory today until 11pm. Rode easy to the bank and some errands in shorts, trainers and a ss button down shirt . Less than 3 miles. I like being on a bike again.
Cheers, Eric

I will get stronger, probably much more slowly than I expect, and probably not as strong as I expected either. I am becoming more comfortable with this. When I was young, ”personal bests" really didn't mean a thing, except as a training tool. My goals have changed, ha, ha.

Did the same ride I did yesterday. (20 miles using paved trail, parkway including road crossings) This time in the rain instead of humid high 80's. Also, dropped the 10# pannier. The good thing about the rain is that the traffic on the trail is quite light. Did 7 splits over 18 mph which is my best time ever. Not sure if I can do 25 miles at that rate, but I am going to start trying. Also, weighed myself in at 179.9. That is the lowest body weight I have since I got the first bike back in April.

95 degrees, sunny and very humid. I wimped out and did an hour of intervals on the trainer......in the a/c.:thumb: Lord, I apologize.

OldTryGuy 08-18-15 12:05 PM

42.5 miles with the guys then another 30 on my own.

az_cyclist 08-18-15 12:52 PM

12.6 miles @ 20.4 rolling ave this morning before work

jimmuller 08-18-15 01:57 PM

I rode my Masi to work yesterday. Today I rode the Gazelle. Right now I'm at my desk listening to really loud booms coming from overhead. I suspect I will arrive home wet.

Ma Nature strikes again! Just as the right hand tendonitis started to de-inflame the left acted up. Put on a soft brace and did a 19.4 group ride on the Roubaix Monday. Big mistake. I was up most of the night with the pain. Ice helped, but I won't be riding for another couple of days, not even on the trike (vertical steering bars, sitting, not leaning into). Bummer!

A photo I found on Grabberwocky - going "old school".

Fourth day of 90 deg temps, an official heat wave + 1 day. Actually I got out before it hit 90 - Garmin had 87. At any rate intervals today for a total of 23.6 miles. I actually hit 26 mph on the flats twice today......I guess I have to add it was with a tailwind.

OldsCOOL 08-18-15 06:41 PM

Rode a 4.1 mile Strava hillclimb course to a PR. It was a good day. :)

JanMM 08-18-15 08:00 PM

22 miles as a Bike Commuter today. Had an early meeting so left home at 6am - more than an hour earlier than my norm. Glad I had two headlights, two tail lights and lots of reflective stuff.

sbiker63 08-18-15 09:11 PM

Did the same course as yesterday. My phone GPS does not detect "when stopped" and still counts the minutes. I have 5 road crossings. Some are short, some can take up to a minute, some I roll right through. Did not get as many 18+ mph splits as yesterday. Much more foot traffic on the bike path. Sometimes I have to come to a complete stop because people won't "stay to the right". 2 splits were at 15.3mph, everything else was 16, 17, and 3 at 18+. I am not trying to be a "roadie racer", but I do want to keep up in some "B" group rides between 25 - 40 miles. Also, I will say "pushing my muscle limits", has got to be burning calories.....

Also, on the way home, stopped at the LBS and had them adjust the front derailleur, it was just not right. Too much rubbing. Seems all better now. We shall see. I must say am enjoying my new ride pretty much. I "feel much healthier". Hard to tell how much of that is real. I do know this much, the harder/longer I ride the more weight I lose. Also, eating much better. I have always had a "fantastic resting heart rate (like 45 bpm)", but I imagine riding has other benefits. At my age, it's a lot better for me than running

18.5 miles, a lovely evening ride along the lake with friends out and back. Lots of little rollers totaling 1243 ft of climbing.

Fldaves 08-19-15 09:27 AM

Did a 15 mile ride this morning on a Cannondale hybrid, averaged 16.4 MPH.

Greybeard712 08-19-15 02:18 PM

(See previous entry - I could be wrong, you know.) Wrapped both wrists/hands up and took the trike out today for a fairly fast 15.5 miles. Been playing with the circumference setting on the speedo to get it to match the distance on the other bikes. Just about got it dialed in. It was showing 16.6 for a known 15.5 miles.

The only place I can put the wireless sending unit is on the front brake housing (the back is too far away, has to be within 60cm) which means I have to cut it off (zip ties) to adjust the brakes. Fortunately that's not very often. Small tires (20") so the setting is low (sez 1618, 1578 works better). Does anyone else have a wireless (non-GPS) speedo on a trike?

35.1 miles @ 17 mph with 1257 ft. 88 deg and soupy. Major full body sweat today.

sbiker63 08-19-15 09:51 PM

The usual 20 mile nightly ride. Very windy tonight.

Do a one revolution on the tire with the trike full loaded.
Then multiply the measurement by 25.4 to get an accurate computer setting.
