Sorry got to ask. Why 25.4?

Uh, what measurement? Mark the tire on the ground, roll forward (sitting on the trike) one revolution, measure the distance times 25.4?
(Math dummy here).

Still taking it easy on the sore hands so I rode the flat bar Sirrus http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=472156 today. Ma Nature is insistent on reminding me that "I dun got old". Left thumb is iced up as I type one handed. Supposed to go on a 20 mile group ride (fast & some climbing) tomorrow but I think I'll pass (sigh).

Had to modify my route due to road work. Took me over some rough road and into a strong headwind. Got in a bone rattling 21.8 miles. Still hot & humid (89 deg)

Um, I don't know what measurement you're looking for to calibrate a computer, but 25.4 is the number of millimeters per inch. If you measure in inches and your computer wants millimeters, multiplying by 25.4 would do it. Rolling the tire on the floor one complete revolution will measure the circumference.

Shortened my daily ride to 12 miles and used my 1990 steel lugged frame 10 speed. Quite a bit of wind out tonight. Also getting cold already. Just past the middle of August and it is in the low 60's by 9pm. Tried wearing "leggings" from REI for the first time in my life. They are effective. Got them on sale at REI. Kind of feel like I am wearing WWII era nylon stockings. But they do work well for $27.

Got back from vacation early Monday morning but didn't ride till Wednesday to shake off the jet lag. Also came back with a cold that we acquired the last two days of the vacation. Got in a moderate 28 miles on Wednesday and another 24 miles yesterday. Between the sinus congestion and the high humidity, neither of those rides were very enjoyable, but it was great to be back on the bike after 23 days of not riding.

Just a short and quick 12mi ride last night. With the many grades and hills (a 2 miler included) it was good to nail a PR with a 16.7mph avg.

Did 20 miles this morning it sunny Estero Fl.:)

Went south on the Blue Ridge Parkway for part of the ride today. Started the ride at 7:00am, instead of 8:00, and enjoyed less vehicle traffic.

Brothers and Sisters, be safe!

Just took this little rocket out for what I thought may be a casual spin around town. Nope. Went for a 21-22mph blitz of a 6 mile sprint just to hear the gasps of the ones I dropped.

Here it is, the '86 Trek 760 Pro Series. Just as much fun as my Colnago Super. Well, almost.

36 miles with a group of about 20 or so. Another smaller group did 50 (or was it 66?) miles, and another did 10. Foggy and damp, but not too hot (fortunately).

This is the second prep ride Saturday before the Le Tour de Bayou on September 19: Home. September 19th is also renowned for being Talk Like a Pirate Day: Welcome to the Official site for Talk Like A Pirate Day - September 19. Maybe we should all wear eye patches. :D

Sort of. I did a 20 minute all out barf test on the trainer to set FTP for Trainerroad. Total of about an 1.5 hrs. It established what I knew-I produce negative watts:(

54 Screamer miles with my favorite stoker on a club ride with 1000 feet of climbing, mostly rollers, nothing gawdawful. Very nice sunny, dry, medium hot day --> Nice Day to Ride a Bike. Unlike last week's club ride, we weren't absolutely last to finish.

Greybeard712 08-22-15 02:20 PM

Been riding the trike letting my left hand/thumb heal (sprained or tendonitis - old man's disease). Met a couple (retired Navy couple) on a Greenspeed tandem trike today, a rare sight. Loooong machine, pretty nice, well built. They were riding a bit slow tho (about 7mph).
16.3 miles @ 15mph, late start, too much auto traffic on the way to the bike path at 10am, pretty warm (80s) and very hazy from the big Washington fires. Not the best air quality.

The SunDing bike computer (all models) comes with a printed list of circumference settings for each wheel and tire size (eg. 700x23C=2015, 700x25C=2124, 20x32C=1618). The other three bikes all show 15.5–15.6 for the same ride. The trike (1618) was showing 16.6 so I lowered the circumference setting to 1568 and increased it from there. So far 1598 has come the closest. I think I got it. Thanks for your input, guys.

TCR Rider 08-22-15 04:45 PM

53 miles @ 17.3 mph with 1463 ft. 85 deg but much lower humidity. Had a bit of a throw down with a guy who likes to make a habit of picking my pocket. Everytime I come across this guy he makes a point of passing me and gives me the fisheye as he passes. Today he was actually going in the opposite direction when he saw me and I just knew he would be coming after me. Sure enough he turned around to give chase. Knowing he was coming I just held a moderate effort so when he passed me I had more in the tank. Not today my friend. I rode off his wheel until we got to a hill at the end of the road. He did a double take when I gave him an on your left mate and passed him on the hill. I just got tired of that damn fisheye:p Maybe next time we can ride together.

Friday had a lovely 35 mile later afternoon ride. Low temps and low humidity reminded me that fall is coming.

Saturday I rode on the Blue Ridge Parkway 103 miles with 9.5K of climbing, from the Explore Park near Roanoke south to Tuggles Gap above. Floyd and back. There is a long gap between Roanoke Mt and Smart View picnic area where there's no real good place to stop or get water. Fortunately it wasn't real hot, but I ended up doing 42 miles before the first stop. That kind of took it out of me for the rest of the ride, but it was lovely anyway. Kind of horrendous traffic later in the afternoon. I think this stretch must be popular as shortcuts for local traffic.

Only a few more weeks until it's the heart of leaf-peeping season, and I try to stay off the parkway until the leaves are gone.

Not today, but last night (by way of headlight & flashing rear light)... My sister and I did the annual Anthem Moonlight Ride here in Richmond, VA. My wife didn't ride and neither did my brother-in-law (but he was there volunteering). It's a really cool event, and draws people of all ages. It starts out at "The Diamond" - home to the Richmond Flying Squirrels (our Double-A minor league baseball team), and goes up into the Lakeside area, Bryan Park, swings over onto the historical Monument Ave, and returns back to The Diamond. We did the 15 mile, full length ride.

Moonlight Ride Course Maps - Sports Backers

Attached are a few thumbnail photos, and here's a link or two from the local TV news:

Moonlight Ride sees record crowds, rallies around cycling race | WRIC

Thumbnail photos:
(1) Me with my C&V '85 Fuji Del Rey (my sister's Trek 700 is in the foreground).
(2) The view looking behind me along the Boulevard of the crowd starting to line up.
(3) The view looking ahead up the Boulevard, with The Diamond (AA baseball stadium) on the right.

Edit: The general "theme" for the event was Patriotic. Everyone was wearing red, white, & blue something. Or, they had something on their bikes as decoration.

Just finished a 16 mile ride. Temperature in low 90's. With the heat index.....about 100. Still felt good to be riding.

44 mile solo loop with mixed hills and flats. Training for the Tour De Tangipahoa (metric century route) in about a month held in Hammond, LA, sponsored by the local Kiwanis Club. Head wind and heat over the last five miles were a bit difficult. It was a great ride. If I shared stats, you'd probably wonder how I stayed upright and moving forward... :)

21.8 miles this morning, then brunch by the New River!

TCR Rider 08-23-15 03:43 PM

41 miles @ 17 mph 1161 ft climbing. 79 deg actually felt pleasant today. Gave me 200.1 miles for the week. Added an extra mile to the ride to crack 200 this week.

20 on Friday, 35 on Saturday and 35 Today. All carrying what I call "minimal overnight camping gear in one pannier"(about 15#). Really just a small silyny tarp, some mosq netting, small cook pot, 2L water, Adventure Medical Kits .9 Medical Kit, Lexan Spork, Frog Toggs rain jacket, Merino base layer, extra pair of socks sleeping pad, light weight down sleeping bag. Also have a Jandd frame bag with a minimum set of tools, inner tube, Topeak Mini Morph pump, front and back lights, and maps of the local area.

Back on the bike http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=472831 today for 15.5 miles @15mph, felt good. I've met a few "trikers" that snub two-wheelers. Tbhptbhpt! I love my 3 bikes and the trike. Why limit yourself to only one - variety is the spice of life (or so I'm told). There is an appreciable difference, but I ain't givin' any of 'em up!
