49.7 mi. @ 20.4 mph avg. 2:26:09

A stiff headwind picked up from the South as the sun came up, I haven't been able to catch a calm morning lately.

2.1 mi. This am :). Just finished my first two weeks back on a bike in 25 years. I'm now very aware that I'm 68 years old and very out of shape. I did have a couple of 7 mile rides last week with some hills but they left me completely burned out. I don't want a heart attack. I have been riding 12 out of the last 14 days and I hope to keep riding regularly. Averaging about 4 miles a day. I'm enjoying this but it really hurts. I feel like a real slacker compared to the rest of you folks.

Keep it Fun and you will go far.

Rest days are good as you will come back stronger.

Walking helps if your legs feel stiff.

Try a Hot Soapy bath for your legs and rear end.

I got up this morning to make my cinnamon roll ride. It's a 38 mile out and back to a cyclist cafe hangout, and it started to sprinkle a half almost as soon as I started. It ended up rain raining the whole morning.

I was going to back out at 12 miles in, but I thought what the heck, I'm already wet, so I rode out to the cafe. I ate my cinnamon roll, had some coffee, and met a couple of people (one a local celeb), and had a great ride.

40 miles by myself this morning. A little slower pace than last week's group ride since, well, there was no group and no drafting! :) Plus, I intentionally tried to pace myself so I'd last. I've done plenty of 30-40 milers, but only two above that, a 50 and 54. Neither were all that pretty (especially the 50, where I bonked) and I'm signed up for the 50 mile version of the 2015 Le Tour de Bayou on the 19th. Included a little bit of what are called hills around here, more than enough for me. :twitchy:

I plan on probably doing the same route again Monday (hopefully with a friend) and then an easy 20 mile club ride next weekend.

09/05/15 - Rapides Parish, LA

Hey, Dr. J - Are you riding this year?

JanMM 09-05-15 01:30 PM

23 miles this morning - from home in the suburbs out to the country and then back again.

TCR Rider 09-05-15 03:45 PM

52.6 miles @ 17.1 avg with 1561 feet. Temp was under 80 deg (79) for the first time in recent memory.

OldsCOOL 09-05-15 05:47 PM

Did a fast 50. No set pace, cranking as fast as seemed good. Climbed 1,000ft along the way. Finished in a touch over 3:15. Felt great, chased and dropped a few, temps at a cool 75F.

jimmuller 09-05-15 08:02 PM

Well, we did 62.1 miles on the tandem today. I'm sure someone is keeping score... :)

rgc52 09-06-15 09:31 AM

21 miles @15mph this morning here in sunny Estero Fl. :)

I felt the same way when I first started riding again at 66 three years ago. A few miles each day in the easier gears and before you know it your legs and wind will be back in shape. The belly fat will slowly slip away, just not all of it :p. Even now I find a couple of regular Tylenol helps the legs. Just stick to it and it will pay off.

19 miles on the Sirrus Saturday and 15.5 today on the Roubaix. 48° at 8AM, long pants and bike jacket. Legs are in great shape, too bad I can't pedal with my belly.

Not much sleep Friday, so no ride yesterday. Very nice 52 mile ride with my buddy Frank, today. Nice weather for a bike ride.

Yes, I did... And a new personal record - even dating back to when I was a teenager riding bicycles back in the 70's!!!

36.75 miles in 2 hrs and 23 min. Avg speed: 15.4 mph - - All on an old C&V '85 Fuji road bike! :thumb:

24 tandem miles this morning before it got hot.

qcpmsame 09-06-15 07:37 PM

Catching up, Friday and Sunday were both 26 miles, fairly hot here, still. High 80s - mid 90s everyday this week, at least the humidity was in the low 60% range most days.

40 miles with 3100 ft today, and 12 mi yesterday with my wife. I'm riding the new old Caad5 this weekend while my wife enjoys her Caad9. A happy Canadian Caad family!

It's good to see everyone getting out. Bit of hot weather on the east coast though.

On Saturday my sweetie and I did an almost-metric (62.1 miles) on ye old tandem, home in Waltham to Chelmsford and back. First stop was Walden Pond:

http://world.std.com/~muller/pics/Ri...WaldenPond.jpg

The plan was not to wear ourselves out because a friend was taking us out on Sunday (yesterday) for a spin along the left bank of the Merrimac River. Hooowee there were some steep hills. We ended up with 61.5 miles yesterday. I had to walk the bike up one hill. Couldn't negotiate the tandem around the bones of all the other cyclists who'd perished in the attempt.

Here are a few examples. I think the second one is where I walked, but I may be mistaken:

A brief stop in Ipswich on the return:

28 mile group ride this morning: 09/07/15 - Rapides Parish, LA
Easy pace with a slight pick-up near the end.
Great ride.

...now, if office/work-related matters would just behave themselves on this holiday Monday. :notamused:

Greybeard712 09-07-15 11:37 AM

It's Goathead Sticker season out here (insidious little @#$%). 3 Flats on two bikes in five days. Tiny pin holes so they didn't show up until the next day at home, didn't interfere with the ride. I didn't have any flats on the Roubaix (Specialized Armadillo tires) for a year, and now two in two rides - with liners.

18.1 miles on the Sirrus on a group ride today. 53° at 8AM so it was a long sleeve cool ride. Small group today, one other couple on a Bike Friday tandem. Met two bike buddies that normally don't ride Monday's (holiday, everything's closed), rode along with one. Nice day. Now I'm off to fix the rear flat on the Allez (Kevlar tires too).

49 tandem miles on a Labor Day club ride. The first 26 mile loop was very very flat, evidenced by our 15.2 moving average speed.

OldsCOOL 09-07-15 01:47 PM

Another 25mi and another 1050ft climbing. Last night I had a casual 7mi and 300ft climbing with the stiff geared '77 Colnago.

Pretty impressive. Around here we'd feel like we'd be flying if we broke 14.5.

qcpmsame 09-08-15 05:39 AM

A 26 mile Labor Day ride, now we need to put away the white kit stuff, until next Memorial day, for all you traditional, fashion conscious cyclists.
