As on most days I rode my commute yesterday and this morning. Yesterday morning was wet, the afternoon nice. This morning was warm but pleasant. The evening commute promises to be HOT (95degF) and humid.

There is a air quality alert out for today. This morning I had the choice of either riding through it or contributing to it. I chose to ride, a decision I may second guess later today.

Rode about 14 miles mid-morning into 15-20 mph headwind. Stopped halfway to bag up fireworks litter left over by some Murikan Patrinots celebrating freedumb by nearly setting fire to a cattle ranch and leaving their trash behind. They left some unexploded stuff as well. Fortunately we got some heavy rains on July 3-4 that soaked the stuff. Yeehaw. Murika.

Poured down this AM so I drove to work but then was able to get for a 19 mile ride after work on the non-commuter 'bent.

Did a 20 mile group ride on the Suncoast Trail that averaged right at 20mph!

Back on the bike after vacation. Yesterday did 11 miles with fresh legs. Today was 16 miles and I can feel the rust in my legs. It's not a bad feeling...

It was unbelievably hot and humid this morning. So I threw a bike in the back of my truck and headed out to the bicycle paths. I hadn't gone 10 miles before I was sopping wet with sweat. And... I was still driving the truck!

But as muggy and uncomfortable as it was... I still enjoyed the (shortened) ride.

25 miles Thursday mid-morning. Outbound ride was easy with mostly tail wind. Return trip was a bit harder. Mostly flat on the MUP and easier overall than my hilly rural rides.

Fldaves 07-07-16 11:40 AM

Did my Thursday AM 37 miles on the hilly northern part of the Suncoast Trail. Avg 17.5mph riding solo!

52 miles this morning with my buddy Frankie D. It felt as if we were doing the Oven Baked Half Century. Rain clouds came in during the last 4 miles and and the temperature dropped quickly but no rain. Wish it had done this at 8:00 this morning.

The weather has been great here the past couple of weeks. 72° at 8:30, 80° or less by the end of the ride, very little wind. Unfortunately yesterday Ma Nature slapped me on the wrist (literally), right hand/wrist was too swollen and painful to ride (RA). Braved it today on the Roubaix for 19.1 miles.

Wanting to get in another 50 mile ride but lack of sleep and this heat just wouldn't let me do it today. Got in a moderately paced 38 miles at around 15-16 mph since that speed was about as fast as I could go without getting overheated. Forecast for tomorrow is 40% rain and I'm hoping that it brings some overcast skies in the morning.

I'm in Ft. Lauderdale. I feel your pain. 35 miler with the B group today, mostly around 21. At least we ride all year.

Did the usual 17 mile commute, but with the HooDoo 500 coming up, time trialed about 10 miles of it.

Another bike to work day. 21 miles

Gym work only today and decision day on a new set of wheels!

John_V 07-08-16 10:28 AM

Had a nice 47 mile ride with the gang today. Had some rain last night that brought some nice and cool winds today so it didn't feel like riding into a blow torch. Thanks to the cool winds, we were finally able to get a nicely paced, 18-20 mph, ride in until Steve crashed, at around mile 38, and messed up his front wheel. After the crash, we decided to cut some miles from the 50 mile route and limp back to the parking lot with Steve.

Yeah, John_V, wheels only work when completely round. Good thing it wasn't a carbon fiber wheel (Craaaack!), or was it?

I had a big disappointment. Found a 2011 Specialized S-Works Tarmac on ebay, won the bid for $885 (normally a $7000+ bike). It arrived yesterday - in pieces. Only the seat was attached, everything else in boxes or bags down to the last cable. Total rebuild is bit beyond my capabilities, hand can't hold tools and I don't have all the knowledge anyway. LBS (Specialized dealer) is charging me $200 to put it all together. So now it's up to $1085 (I don't need money, I have plastic). Even tho it's not all original (ie. Shimano 105 shifters/derailleurs with Ultegra gears) it's still a deal for an S-Works Tarmac. Beautiful frame

Sorry to hear about the crash John. Hopefully Steve is okay!

Last day of my vacation on Vashon Island, WA. There is some really great riding here with good climbing. Today I did a ride which became my "basic" training ride when I was too busy doing family stuff to ride much. It's a 15 miler with over 1500 ft of climbing.

Rode my annual century today, 163.5 km. Average speed 24.5 km/h, on my 23 y.o. steel Marinoni. I would have been faster but 130 km into the ride, two spokes broke on my rear wheel, so I limped home at 20 km/h with the rear brake opened to avoid stressing the rest of the spokes. I missed out on my century in 2015. I averaged 25.1 on nearly the same route in 2014. I was psyched up to beat that, but then the spokes broke and spoiled the fun.

Got in an early morning Le Tour de Bullhead . . . . .

canklecat 07-08-16 09:28 PM

Two miles after washing and relubing the bike to check the chain. Wimped out due to back spasms. Ah, well, tomorrow's another day.

02Giant 07-09-16 07:46 AM

39.4 mi. @ 2:09:27 On this route there is a 5.5 mi. stretch that is all uphill, pushed myself up it three times. There were the return trips back down the hill for breaks :D

RMNP in less than a month.
