32.06 cold WINDY miles this morning. The Saturday Social ride was very windy this morning. I had hoped that it might be cancelled, or, at least shortened.
But...........NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I guess if it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger.
No biggie for me, but a couple of the more neophyte members of the group struggled mightily.
But, we got 'er done !

John_V 11-19-16 03:16 PM

A windy 40 miles with legs that didn't want to cooperate this morning. Otherwise, a great ride. :)

jimmuller 11-19-16 07:32 PM

We took our tandem out for 40 miles today. Tell you the truth, I don't know if it was cold or not. I end up sweating after 3 or 4 miles even though the thermometer said upper 40's when we started. My sweetie enjoyed a nice lunch in the sun by the North Bridge in Concord.

22.2 mi @ 19º and a 16 mph leisurely pace exploring some new areas.

Greybeard712 11-20-16 01:25 PM

No ride Saturday, 64mph winds (gusts over 80). A little too much for these old bones (grumble grumble :foo:)
18.7 Sunday on the trusty ol' Allez. Some sprinkles, lite wind, some 18mph.
A friend bought some new Mavic wheels and gave me the 23C Mavic tires that came with them, put them on the Allez. Nice (good tires but I like the Conti GP4's better for around the same price, better longevity). For me, couldn't beat the price (free).

Big drop in temperature last night and 10-12 mph winds this morning made for a very cold (for us) ride. My sinuses started draining the minute I got out of the car, so I opted to do a slow, 26 mile ride with the wife. There was probably less than half the amount of people at the park than there is on a normal Sunday.

RODE THE horrible 100 today :) who said Fla has no hills, climbed 4,500 ' on the 100 miles today . For a flat lander that's a lot of climbing .lol

Wonder how C-cat did on his solo century today...

Got my 2nd HH 100 today. Last year I was dealing with prostate cancer and this year a new right shoulder joint installation 6 weeks ago tomorrow. Would have been more fun on my Giant but getting the job done on my 1981 Paramount with upright bars was pretty rewarding. Going to try to be healthier next year.

JanMM 11-20-16 09:29 PM

Mid-30's and sunny today which was an improvement on yesterday's similar temps but overcast and windy........so today I rode a modest 7 miles. Good to get out after a few days without riding.

bikemig 11-20-16 10:25 PM

This was the first cold weekend of the year. Temps were in the high 30s and low 40s but felt much colder with the wind chill. Did 20 miles on Saturday and 25 on Sunday.

Didn't quite turn out as planned. Apparently the near freezing temp congealed the old grease in the shifter for the front derailer, which jammed. Couldn't tackle the hilly route I'd planned to start with Sunday morning without the smallest chain ring, and it kept hanging. By the time I'd cleaned and reassembled the shifter it was early afternoon.

So I went for a casual afternoon ride, bought a windbreaker from the Pearl Izumi factory outlet store (needed it too -- something between my thin long sleeve jersey and Shimano Storm Jacket; the latter is like a sweat lodge in temps above 60F), and joined a local nighttime group ride.

So, 44 miles. I'll tackle the solo century again next weekend. Hopefully I'll have all the mechanical bugs sorted out by then. Bottom bracket seems to be creaking a bit now too.

I rode 62 km on Saturday on the road bike, and had ridden 43 km on Tuesday on dirt roads on the mountain bike. Both in splendid fall weather, up to 20C on Saturday. Then rain on Sunday, and by Sunday afternoon it started changing over to snow. As I look out my home office window, the landscape is a sea of white and it's still snowing. Wet heavy stuff, branches all full of snow. I had been in Italy for 3 weeks 'till last Monday so I hadn't yet changed my tractor over from mower to snow blower. I have to it today as the forecast is for a total 25 cm. I live in the sticks and our house is set well back from the road on a long and winding driveway. Downhill on the way out so Mrs. Beech was able to get out to work, but it will have to be plowed for her to get back from work or my name will be mud.

So there's a very good chance that I've ridden my last of the season until next spring, although up until about Christmas anything is possible and a quick thaw could melt everything and give me a chance to round out the season at 4300 km (up to 4270 at the moment with 43k m elevation change). If not, the bikes get put away, and the crampons and snowshoes come out for some winter mountain hikes on Mt. Sutton, the local mountain (elevation 966 m).

17.8 miles (28.6k) This morning. The WU (Weather Underground) site said cloudy, dressed warmly. It was sunny, overheated. Then it got very cloudy, and rained. They said nothing about rain. But it was light and I got a ride in anyway.

Sunday my car failed to start - a Chinese thing (lo-bat). I only drive about 2,000 miles a year, I put 5,000 miles on the bikes. Got a solar powered trickle charger.

Man, it was cold this morning. 35°, but sunny. 17.2 miles. Kinda tired, it was all I could do to maintain 15mph. I hate this "getting old" stuff.

Constant crosswinds on this morning's 40 mile solo ride. Had a few gusts that really tossed me around pretty good. Cold and wind kept a bunch of people out of the park today.

JanMM 11-22-16 09:18 PM

9 miles this evening after work. Low 40's and got dark before I was finished but was lit up.

2manybikes 11-23-16 12:20 AM

78 miles today. Super windy. 31 F arriving at home. 44 when leaving.

John_V 11-23-16 01:20 PM

50 windy miles. With this wind and cool weather setting off my sinuses, I've given up on trying to get any decent speed on my rides. I'm just gonna do the distance. I just wonder how much longer this wind is going to hang around? :(

Greybeard712 11-23-16 02:41 PM

18.1 miles into a nasty headwind. Giving it a hard push on the Allez in mid-range 5th gear will usually net me 18mph. I maxed out at 12mph against that wind. But a nice tailwind going home. Quite a workout.

canklecat 11-23-16 07:51 PM

22 miles along a hilly route at 14 mph, my fastest time yet on that route. Last year at this time I was stopping for up to 15 minutes every few miles to catch my breath. This time I stopped once to use my inhaler and another time to put on a windbreaker after sunset and the temp dropped below 60.

The shifter glitch that kept me from the solo century last weekend turned out to be a kinked shifter cable inside the shifter body. Gotta replace that anyway, the cables and housings are probably the originals from 1992!

And the creak during hard pedaling appears to be a loose bolt in one chain ring on the triple. Snugged it up as best I could, though I can't reach one lock ring without disassembling the entire chain ring assembly. Bottom bracket seems okay. I may just ignore the creaking for now and tackle the whole thing later.

Excellent photos! You live in a beautiful place. Do they salt the roads during winter in Scotland?
