24 mile loafcycle on the Unibagel, briefly interrupted by a flat tire midway through. No problem, I was about to take a break anyway. Can't blame the new Continental Speed Ride tires -- that chunk of glass hidden in the grass was like a diamond and would have punctured almost any tire. Slapped on a Lezyne self sticking patch, a couple hundred strokes of the mini-pump to get it up to a rideable 40 psi, and loafpedaled home.

Also chattered with a struggling homeless fellow I'd met a couple of months ago and have chattered with a few times before. Good guy, trying to piece his life back together. He has a little income, not quite enough to rent an apartment but he's hoping. Last time I saw him a few weeks ago he was planning to get a car so he and his dog would have some shelter for the winter. And with transportation he'll have a better shot at employment again. Well, he has a vehicle now and seems more optimistic. Hope it works out for him.

Not a bad morning.

17.8 miles yesterday and 17.6 today on the Tarmac SL. The zipper tab broke on my favorite bike jacket so I'm having to resort to an extra layer of lined jerseys. It's difficult finding a local tailor that will put a new pull-tab on the zipper and not charge more than I paid for the jacket.

Well, I claimed that if Trump won the election I'd move to Belize (or maybe Costa Rica). Year round cycling and less expensive to live. But I'm a few thousand short of financing the move, so maybe not.

21 miles as a bike commuter today. Cold enough this morning that I wished midway in - too late - that I had worn my ski gloves.

Greybeard712 11-11-16 01:44 PM

19.4 miles on the Tarmac SL. The trade-off is, do I start out warm n' toasty, Thinsulate mittens, knit cap under the helmet and get slightly overheated later -or- bear the cold w/ice cold fingers and ride home in (relative) comfort?
This morning I turned around a block from the apt. and went back to put on warmer clothes. I'd be happy with summer all year round.

25.8 miles today, Veteran's Day, puts me over my goal of 3000 for the year. Yay!

Didn't get to post yesterday's ride but it was a nice 40 mile solo ride, except for the seven miles I rode with Amanda Coker. Today's ride was a 57 mile ride with my buddy Frankie. He was complaining of some knee pain from a ride he did last week so I let him set the pace for the ride. The last two days have been so perfect that I almost didn't want to end the rides. Hoping it stays this way for at least a few more weeks.

Zero miles for me yesterday, today....

tomorrow and for some time thereafter. On Sunday I was taken down by a (new) neighbor's vicious dog while peddling home after a nice 25 mile loop. So quick and silent was the attack that I never saw the mutt until it had tangled itself in my bike, causing me to fall and break my pelvis in two places, and squishing a third. To add insult to injury, it continued to attack me once it had me immobilized. Thank God another neighbor happened by in his pickup. Took about 15 minutes to load me up in the bed.

I spend Sunday through Tuesday in UVA Charlottesville, where they poked, prodded, x-rayed, CT scanned, etc. found several breaks but was lucky to be released without surgery, thanks to being in great shape and no dislocations.

P.S. To my fellow riders: make sure you ace the physical therapy test!!

I'll miss riding in the great FL weather, but look forward to bouncing back in the near future. Meanwhile, I'll have to content myself with reading everyone's posts here, so make them colorful and take lots of pics!

30.1 miles on our standard route yesterday. Pace not bad, but a bit off from what it has been lately.
I've been pushing some higher gears (50x18,17,16 and 15) compared to what I had been using for the last couple of years, and it is helping the speeds. Not experiencing any muscle soreness as a result, so I guess I'm safe. Even using 50x19 on the longer uphills.
Sambo has been a bit off lately, tho. The last few rides had been on the mornings after he had ridden with other friends and he really struggled. Yesterday he was as rested ad I was and he still struggled.
I hope he is OK...

Typical 20mi ride today on DRY roads - on this 2004 lugged steel 'endurance bike'. Was that a term in '03??? when this frame was laid-out? I told the builder it was to be a 'forever bike' with room to shrink (by shorter stem, no setback, slightly sloping tt). It is definitely an all day bike with 25mm or 27mm tubulars. Pump peg and nice braze-on details. Special lugwork to keep headtube clean and uncluttered. Aero seat cluster & stay integration. Columbus mix EL/OS, Nemo. Paint was my design and vinyl lettering.

55 miles through the countryside around Georgetown, TX.

A beautiful day in East Tennessee, low 60's and no wind. Rode 30 miles with two buddies NE of Knoxville. A beautiful day.

31.3 mile Saturday Social ride. We had a new lady join the group today, spreading the scope of abilities out a bit. We rolled at a social pace and enjoyed the fall coolness.

Wow! Sorry to hear about the dog attack. Good thing that no surgery was required. Hope you heal quickly and get back on the bike soon. Our ride in Inverness can certainly wait until you are up to it.

Another 40 mile solo ride this morning. Started out with little to no wind but that didn't last for very long. Somewhere along the route, something triggered my hay fever and the sinuses went crazy for the rest of the ride, even after taking a Zyrtec this morning.

NYMXer 11-12-16 04:12 PM

It was 34 degrees at 9AM but the club ride was on...... as was a few layers of clothes.

Around 60F at 3:25AM and a beautiful moon as I headed out for 31 miles on my 14yo, $100.00 Magna 7 speed hybrid. Saw a bunch of bunny rabbits, raccoons and 1 bobcat. After stopping back at the house for a clothes and bike change, back out for an additional 73 miles on my touring Paramount. It's been not quite 5 weeks with the complete shoulder joint replacement so I still have to ride upright bars for another 3 to 4 weeks.

Next Sunday is the Horrible Hundred in Clermont, FL. then another week and the Space Coast Half Marathon.

JanMM 11-12-16 08:58 PM

Frost was on the pumpkins early morning but up to almost 60F early afternoon when I got out for a 12 mile, 2 hills ride.

canklecat 11-13-16 06:29 AM

14 miles pre-dawn Sunday. Planned to ride farther but a flat tire interrupted. Patched it and decided to resume later. Only my second flat this year, but that's twice in a week. Drat.

John_V 11-13-16 02:20 PM

52 miles with my buddy Frankie. His knee is still bothering him from last weeks ride, so we kept the entire ride fairly slow. Didn't even get a good sprint or a chance to pull like I did on Friday when I rode with him. :(

This coming Tuesday I shall have been here on this earth for 68 years. Thus in compliance with the Ancient and Honorable 50+ Birthday Ride Requirements I have ridden the aforementioned mileage plus the requisite extra. For some mathematical reason I don't quite understand, my birthday seems to fall on a day I am not at work only a little more frequently than two times every seven birthdays, so I am forced to ride on the nearest weekend day. Hence the ride today.

I rode 79.9 miles, which should satisfy the 68-mile requirement. Without pics it didn't happen, of course. So...

Rode 25 miles today. Not bad I thought since it was the first time in 4 weeks.

Brief 8 mile ride late this afternoon. I seem to be ramping down my riding/miles as we get deeper into Fall. I do plan to brave freezing temps in the morning to ride to work, though.

Well done, young man. Happy birthday. And in the wise words of Carl "Oldy" Olson, DON'T GET OLD! :50:

Just 10 miles today. Moving, work scheduling, health issues, and summer heat kept me off my bikes for almost 6 mos. I was determined to get on again and since the Lapierre is in getting new cables, I dusted off my Specialized Vita hybrid and had a nice ride through the Old Money area and on to Symphony Park. I'd forgotten how smooth and quiet (and heavy) it is. Compared to the Lapierre, it's like driving a very nice truck :D

Rode 20 miles with my friend Hudson308 on Saturday - we intended to ride in Elm Creek Park, but it was closed for a "Special Deer Hunt". So we went to Coon Rapids Dam and rode that trail instead. I didn't take my camera with me on that ride, it was too late in the day, and we wanted to get some miles in before dark.

Yesterday I did bring my camera with me, and I rode the Midtown Greenway out to the Chain of Lakes: Lake of the Isles, Calhoun, and Harriett. I rode around all three of those, and then up the Minnehaha Creek trail to the Ford Dam, across the river and home. That was a total of about 50 miles, and it was a great day out. I shot lots of photos, and here are a few of the best:

On the Midtown Greenway, which was fairly busy for such a cool day.

The `Greenway is a veritable gallery of graffiti, most of which is positive in nature.

http://i1073.photobucket.com/albums/...ps01dtqagx.png
The chop on Lake Calhoun is evidence of the fairly stiff breeze that was with us for most of the ride.

Here's my art shot for the day, along the Minnehaha Creek Trail.

http://i1073.photobucket.com/albums/...psd62bys8l.png
Well, one more art shot, this time in color.

Minnehaha Creek runs under many, many bridges on it's way to the Mississippi River.
