Second ride in the lowlands. TX hill country is fantastic. 10 mi yesterday and 13 today. In a couple weeks our travels get us into flat land so it will be time to dust off the Zenetto and store the MTB until next April.

Just the other day I was reading the reviews of the Di2, and one of the disses was that it was possible to forget to charge the battery. What moron would forget that? I have probably 15k miles on Di2 (two bikes), and never had such an experience, but tonight that moron was me. Got stuck on the little ring 20 miles out, but it didn't matter much as it was brutal headwinds all the way home. Managed just over 42 miles. I'm worn out......

20 miles Friday afternoon, intending to make it an easy cruise to save the legs for an early Saturday fast ride. But couldn't resist taking advantage of the tail wind to set some personal bests on a couple of segments. Didn't really put much effort into it, just enough to top my old times. Thanks, 13 mph south wind.

14 miles Wednesday night on the Schwinn High Plains with a Cygolite Hotshot 150 mounted on the back of my helmet, another blinkie under the seat and two led Maglites on Two Fish blocks on the flat bar. I 'm not much of a night time rider, but it went ok.
26 miles today, squeezed in after work. Got back at sundown with a light drizzle falling. |

Drove an hour to the north of me to meet up with about 20 members of the C2C team for a nice hill training ride. Rode the Suncoast Trail from Anderson Snow Park to US 98 and back. Then I did an extra 3 miles to round out the ride to 40 miles. The ride was going well until the winds picked up. The trail runs alongside the Suncoast Parkway and it's all open with nothing to slow the wind down. I need a nap. |
I got in 2 hours and 1 minute in this near record heat on an early Fall day. But, that all changes tomorrow with a cold front coming in. It should allow for more Fall-like temps, but the downside will be the rain.

 my mechanical Ultegra shifters and derailleurs. Never need to worry about such things. :D

I freely admit I'm addicted and have no plans to give it up. |
45 miles Saturday morning. Was aiming for a metric century but had nothing in the tank after 45 miles. Started out with a local club's B group ride, but the A and B groups combined today and averaged 19 mph, far beyond my ability. A gap opened pretty quickly and I couldn't draft or close the gap. So I finished at a more comfortable average of 15 mph, although I pushed too hard on some hills into the wind and gassed out early. I still need to pace myself better for longer rides.

21.0 miles (33.8k). Cold sunshine and quite windy. I'm completely spoiled by the Ultegra UI2 electric shift.

After my off a few days ago I had a day off the bike, just did some walking, the day after felt really good so had a 20 mile ride (all flat), foot was a bit sore the last couple of miles so gave it a good rest when I got home. Next morning the whole of my ankle was red and very swollen so went to A&E, it doesn't hurt but its so hot to the touch, they didn't know what was causing it, so I've been putting my foot in cold water to see if that helped, nope its still the same, anyone got any ideas what it could be?
No I'll be off the bike until it gets sorted :( |
53 miles today on a club ride in the hills of Bartholomew and Brown counties. About 2500 feet of climbing, some of which was on foot. :) This ride is done three times each year, with the route varied to gradually increase the climbing from Spring through Fall. As we get fitter in the cycling season. I need to work on my climbing skills for next year.

No I'll be off the bike until it gets sorted :( But redness, elevated temperature and pain are potentially serious. See a doctor, ASAP. |
52 miles on a cold day but totally clear blue skies. Amazing clear views of all the volcanoes. I'm at 4,860 miles for the year, expect to break 5,000 miles next week. Going to be 75° Monday, looking forward to putting in a long ride.

With a cold front due in around Noon I wanted to get in a ride this morning. With strong and gusty southerly winds, that's the direction I started out toward. I decided to keep going out of town due south on a smooth two lane blacktop across some rolling hills out into the countryside. At about the 45 min. mark I decided to turn around, and there it was off into the distance, that well predicted cold front plainly visible in the sky. As I got closer to home the darker it was getting, and I could feel the temperature dropping. About a quarter mile from home a light rain started. It felt like it was raining ice water. Ten minutes after getting home the rain was coming down hard. So I did get in an almost perfectly timed 76 minute ride.

7:30 departure to beat the heat and Sunday AM crouds. Cool and clammy when I left, headed up into High Springs where I saw a colleague of mine at the diner. Saw a few other folks on the ride back. Good, long, hard ride....65 miles. So just under 130 for the weekend, managed to salvage an otherwise low mileage week.
I'm feeling way better, and looking forward to the SF Century next weekend. |
FINALLY -- a chance to get out on my classic '85 Fuji road bike and go for a nice bicycle ride, after being laid up for a few weeks from a tick bite. All the meds and antibiotics and stuff worked, and I feel like I'm back to my normal self (knock on wood!) I rode out along River Rd all the way Patterson (Route 6), past the 288 expressway and back. Nice ride, felt great to get out on my bicycle. I discovered that it is a lot easier on me than running. Hmmmm.... 17 miles... and I'm not really that tired! I remember jogging 3 miles a last week and I was really winded and worn out. Maybe it's true after all that bicycle riding is less damaging to the body than running! :thumb:
The 17.30 mile route.... https://i.imgur.com/DCIzJs3.jpg Stopped at River Rd Presbyterian Church, seeking some "Divine Guidance" to watch over me while on my bicycle ride along River Rd. https://i.imgur.com/IfVFCsa.jpg Stopped at River Rd & Patterson Ave at the big abandoned cow pasture and wooden fenceline, turned around, and rode all the way back. https://i.imgur.com/aoSfSIA.jpg |
23.5 miles (37.8k). The Weather Underground web site said, "Warmer today than yesterday" yet the posted temperature at 7 AM was 26° (yesterday was 34°). Cold but mostly sunshine and NO WIND!.

Had a 300 mile week so today’s ride was nice and slow to rest the legs. Did another no shift, solo ride for 40 miles in some really nice weather for a change. Getting back on my normal riding schedule and taking tomorrow off.
|
Got my monthly metric century in today. Weather was perfect, cool 68 with over cast sky for the first 30 miles. Slight to no wind. Fall might be finally here in eastern NC.

20 miles on 20” wheels. So-Cal’s Santa Ana River Trail segment Mt Roubidoux to La Sierra.

17 mi - beautiful but windy day. Finding longer side roads for even better hill country riding.

23.7 miles (38.1k). Another cold (38°) but sunny riding day. Met up with two of the Kiwanis Coffee Riders Monday ride regulars at our starting point in the Marina parking lot, but they wimped out. Too cold. So I rode solo.

Yesterday I had a 3 hour drive home from the East Coast, relaxed a bit then went out at 8:30PM for 31 miles. Hit the sack at 11:30PM and 3 hours later up and about. Finally got my act together, got the bike back in order and out at 3:45AM. Almost hit a racoon less than 1 mile into the ride. Had a couple of rabbits play zig-zag near the bike and finally nipped the tail of an opossum. Laid down some long-straight miles having a good workout and totaled 63 miles when I got back home.

30 miles Monday morning. Cool, clear, beautiful but windy. Uncommon north wind, perfect to chasing some personal bests on southbound hill climbs. Between the wind and legs feeling much better after resting Sunday, my time improved dramatically on a climb that usually thwarts me.
And I don't feel a bit guilty about the wind assistance. I noticed a few other folks I follow on Strava, including a local pro, all re-rode that same route to take advantage of the wind the past week! So, naturally, I made zero gains toward the top ten since they're all faster than me regardless of conditions. |
64 miles, a metric century. Was the warmest day this month so I kept extending my ride, I'm only 80 miles short of breaking 5,000 miles for the year. I was hoping to go over by my 68th birthday. Thursday, but it looks like it will be the day after. Supposed to be very cold the end of this week.
