Haven't posted in a couple of days. Didn't ride on Thursday because of rain and 24 mph winds with 38 mph gusts. Just couldn't see any point to it. Yesterday, I did a slow 31 mile ride with two of my riding buddies. Still had a bit of a cough but it didn't really affect the riding. However, I still didn't push myself.

Felt really good this morning and the coughing seemed to be at a minimal so I pushed a little harder on the ride. Did 25 miles keeping it between 17 and 20 mph and didn't have any issues with breathing or coughing. The last 15 of the 40 mile ride was not so pretty. My buddy Steve wore himself out on the first lap but insisted on continuing with the second. Not long after starting, he started having problems but refused to turn back. Had to limp in for about 13 miles as he nearly bonked on me. This is a very overweight, 73 year old rider trying to ride like he's 23. It's not working for him.

Another good day of riding. Had just a bit of congestion when I woke up this morning but not much in the way of coughing. Humidity this morning was a killer and we're getting 18-24 mph gusts from Hurricane Nate. Other than that it was a really nice, well paced, 40 mile solo ride. Hoping my buddy Frankie is riding tomorrow so I can get in a 60 miler.

Today was supposed to be a washout because of Hurricane Nate, but it decided to go up through Alabama. Instead we got the brisk easterly winds from it along with some good gusts. That's the direction I started out into, and my legs kept saying "No!". After an hour into the wind I thought the rebound with the wind to my back would be lots easier, but my legs just did not want to respond today. But I ended up riding 2 hours and 15 minutes on a very warm and humid Fall day.

Just about ditto for me, John. Took it rather easy for 32 miles in very humid, very windy conditions. Like you, I'm still recovering from a bad chest cold, and it's taken a toll on me.

I was informed on Friday from my LBS in VA that my 2018 Roubaix Expert (white) has arrived. It may be a while before I'm able to pick it up, but both my existing bikes are beginning to show their age, so I'm looking forward to a new machine:thumb:

23.4 miles (37.7k). Colder and windy as predicted. Met up with a group and had the Brunch Buffet at a truck stop. Then rode another 10 miles on a (very) full stomach.

54 tandem miles today at the 50th Hilly Hundred. I always forget how Hilly it is...... Light rain the last 25 miles. Not to mention RD issues the last 10 - 15 miles resulting in walking up a few hills. But great fun all in all.

54 miles on a 53° day, I guess it's only going to get colder from now on.

24 miles Sunday. Intended to ride farther but the chain kept dropping on front derailleur shifts. Been a problem since I swapped from a 42T to 39T smaller chainring. I tried tweaking the limit screws and derailleur position on the road but just made it worse, so I cut the ride short.

40 miles on Sunday...great day. Rode with my friend in to Glasgow....had a coffee and cake(worth it!) and back home. Brilliant!

30 yesterday (Sunday). It was a little on the muggy side, but I felt great.

Greybeard712 10-09-17 01:25 PM

20.8 miles (33.5k). Cold and windy, cut the ride a little short.

Did a hot and humid, training ride for Frankie for the upcoming C2C ride. He needs to be able to keep a 15-16 mph pace for 60 miles to keep up with the group he's going to ride with. 60 miles is the shortest of the three rides (60, 80, 80) and he did pretty darn good on today's 60 mile ride. I owe him a beer.

Very short 20 miles, almost didn't get out at all. The Santa Fe Century is less than two weeks away, and I'm still way off my game. My first priority will be to have fun. After that, we'll see......

Got out at 8:15PM yesterday for 20 miles. Temperature 85F and 78% humidity. Today out at 10:00AM at 82F and got in 50 miles.

19 commuting miles today. A little cool in the morning and just warm in the afternoom.

rumrunn6 10-10-17 06:28 AM

wonder if anyone ever intentionally rides a number miles that matches the temperature in degrees, like John00 almost did. so if it's 80 degrees out, you ride 80 miles, etc :innocent:

Bustergut 10-10-17 10:35 AM

Didn't ride today as yesterday I fell off the bike on some mud and twisted my ankle, its swollen a bit but I went for a 5 mile walk instead and its looking better, so I expect I'll ride tomorrow.

Haven't had temperature readings high enough. Got out this morning at 2:13AM and the temp was down to 78F from 88F yesterday but rode 103 miles, temp. right now at 90F. Planning on 100 to 110 miles on Thursday and sure as heck hope the temp. doesn't get there.

John_V 10-10-17 01:52 PM

Rode a typical, 40 mile ride with my buddy Frank C. Warm and muggy until the wind picked up and made us work for every mile. 🌬🚴

Greybeard712 10-10-17 01:54 PM

18.5 miles (29.8k). Had to get home, change clothes, and be somewhere so I cut the ride short. Lotza sunshine but very cold. Hey, I have winter gear.

Beautiful day yesterday; rode 71, 3300 calories, 1860 ft. climbing. No wildlife sightings.
Today was 3 miles on a grocery store run astride the beater Schwinn Sierra that's in the clunker challenge over on C&V.

Um, I guess you guys don't live in FL 😀. Maybe OldTryGuy does, certainly not me.....

Tonight I was lucky to get in 25 miles as the sun set at just after 7:00PM on a warm (85F) evening. Maybe in the dead of winter, when it drops into the 60's here.....

John00 10-10-17 09:29 PM

59 Miles, cold and smoky, I thought it was smoke from the California fires, 700 miles to the South. but it was a controlled burn 20 miles away and cleared up quickly.

OldTryGuy 10-11-17 07:10 AM

Much cooler temps. at 3:15AM today. Another 51 miles added on to the pile.
