I'm sorry, but that sentence really needs a picture to illustrate what you mean. My imagination is painting some really strange scenarios right now...

I corrected it. It was one of those goat head thorns. . .

Short day today, 17.6 miles on the Tarmac. Spent some time doing ride adjustments (Handlebar Tilt) and too much time jaw jacking with another serious rider friend in Rock Park. But I still have over 100 miles for the week (and it ain't over yet).

Yesterday 13.4 miles. Was going to do 15 but got a late start because of the heat (index was 96 degrees F) until I decided to finish early at twilight because I was scaring the poor drivers out on the road. (We are in a rural foxhunting area and, while the traffic is almost non-existent, people are more used to seeing deer on the road at night than bicycles, so they were almost driving into the ditch on the opposite side of the road to give me 12 feet rather than the legal 3).

Tonight, after sunset (twilight)...just 2.5 miles to see how my new little pink LED spoke lights looked in the dark on my road bike. At 18mph they looked fabulous!

Funny story - this morning hubby comes in from the garage all worried. "Where is your road bike?" he asks, almost panicked. "The ebike is out there, but the road bike is missing."

I looked him right in the eye.

"It's in the Dining Room," I said.

Didn't have to say it was parked on the oriental rug, leaning against the wallpapered wall, under a foxhunt scene oil painting, flanked by two china cabinets, right at the head of the mahogany dining room table which was set with four place settings of fine bone china and sterling silver flatware.

"Oh." (pause) "OK".

He turns and goes back into the garage to putter around doing whatever.

The road bike is in the Dining Room again tonight. Maybe tomorrow I'll put it back in the garage. If I feel like it.

As Mel Brooks would say: "It's good to be The Wife".

Stretched my commute to 35 mi today so I could hit my 150 mi/week goal. Almost didn't make it though.

Had a flat on the way home in an area with woods. Blood sucking mosquitoes were chewing away on me in miserable heat while I changed the tube out. Then my Lezyne Trigger CO2 inflator wouldn't trigger - I got it to work but it froze open and I lost all of the CO2. So, with a Lezyne power drive (I had found on the road on another ride) I managed to get it pumped up enough to get out of the mosquito infested area then enough to get to a rendezvous point with my support team (my wife) who brought a pump so I could finish out the last 10 mi, which were quite pleasant

Momonherbike, great story!

Wd took the tandem out to an organic farm to buy some veggies. Okay, so it was just a destination. Enx up with 42.8 miles.

14 miles in pouring rain on a new-to-me Univega Via Carisma. This should be a good errand and short tour camping trip bike. Already included fenders, front and rear racks. Surprisingly cool and occasionally chilly ride for August in Texas.

A couple of my rides have been interrupted by deer heads. One particular rural route I ride seems to be littered with many deer and critter corpses and skeletal body parts.

21.9 miles this morning. Speed up 1/10th or so........
I'll gladly take improvement in small doses.

Like most other days, I have a hard time motivating myself to get on the bike.
But, once I'm riding, I am glad that I did.
Although, it is taking me ever longer to get to where I feel good.
Used to take about 4 miles, then 10..........now it takes 12 or so before
things start working the way they should.
I guess that just comes with age.......the older I get, the longer it takes to get warmed up.
At this rate, it'll take about 50 miles to warm up when I'm 90 ;-)

21 miles today on the Roubaix. Took a slow ride through the City of Sparks Open Streets. Not much going on, might have been a little early (10:15AM). It'll probably pick up with the heat index up to the high 80s. Earlier is better.

stope before the rain shower and heat.

Hello, this is my first post. I recently got back on a bike after 20+ years off (except the occasional beach cruiser ride). I'm 59 yrs. old and have been in decent shape most of my life, but the last few years I've slipped some. I started riding about 10-15 miles at the start of July and finally broke the 35-mile mark this morning. It was super windy (25 mph and gusty in spots). I had ridden 30 miles on Thurs, and Friday, so figured I'd take it kind of easy today. I felt good, so just kept riding. Ended up with 35.07 miles averaging 15.2 mph. This forum is very encouraging! It's great to see so many 50+ folks keeping fit! :)

Greybeard712 08-21-16 12:27 PM

A low energy day. 17.9 miles on the Roubaix. Just didn't have the oomph to get in that last 1/10 of a mile to make it an even 18.

I put on roughly 50 miles today. Out on the Bruce Vento Trail, to the end of the Gateway Trail and back, with a lot of extra poking around my old hometown of North Saint Paul, MN. It was a brilliant day after a gloomy, dreary week.

Crossing the Lafayette Bridge, I had to stop and take this photo:

In fact, it was a good day for bridges:

I found this place along the Gateway Trail, and had some of their chili for lunch:

While I was eating, I glanced over to my right, and found an unexpected guest at my table:

(I've posted this in "Everyday Pics" as well, but it's too good not to include here.)

With this ride today I celebrated my 53rd birthday. But I still feel like an 8 year-old boy whenever I get on my bike.

39 miles Sunday night, between a group ride downtown and the ride to and from. Beautiful August night, unusually moderate temperature for a Texas summer. Odd weather -- August started out roasting with nearly 14 consecutive days over 100F, then it suddenly cooled down to springlike temps with rain.

Earlier today (just before lunch) I took a nice 13 mile ride down to the James River, here in Richmond, VA.

My C&V '85 Fuji on the Huguenot Bridge, looking upstream towards the western suburbs...

The end of Riverside Dr, where they recently built a rotary instead of the somewhat blind "T" intersection.
(Was way too dangerous with bicyclists, joggers, canoe/kayakers hauling their boats, etc... in the summer)

The famous "Z Dam" on the James River, with a pile of debris from that storm a few weeks ago.

Look close and you'll see a Heron (is that a fish in its mouth?)

Lastly, when I got back home, I fiddled with my toe clip strap (cheap black nylon) as it was starting to fray. So, I trimmed it just a hair and singed the end with a lighter.

I am loving the new MKS Sylvan pedals! (sorry for the blurry photo)

Those are some beautiful pics DQRider. Nice.

17.1 on the Tarmac with the Kiwanis Group. Some hills, fast ride, but they decided to climb a very looooong hill and I'm not best friends with gravity. So I broke off and rode back (down Vista Blvd @25mph) and climbed the shorter hills toward lunch. Thunderstorms yesterday, humid today. Possibility of more rain today. As long as it leaves me enough time to ride in the morning, I'm all for it.

Just my 17 miles on a local mup. Best part was no neck pain.

JanMM 08-22-16 07:33 PM

My stoker and I spent the weekend in Milwaukee (Brookfield, actually) and rode 20+ miles on both Saturday on Sunday, primarily on local bike trails. Lots of paved trails in the area. Sunday rode to Port Washington on Lake Michigan.
Note: Found out that it is possible to average 27mpg over almost 500 miles with a tandem bike on a roof rack. Saw no other cars on our trip with a bike on the roof.

Thank you, sir! It was a very enjoyable day, marred only by leg cramps while I was downloading my photos.

I rode a 12-mile loop tonight on the newest addition to my little stable. I never thought my first Peugeot would be a Mountain Bike - I was looking for a U08. But this Orient Express showed up, and the long wheelbase with the slack geometry ticked all the boxes for an N+1 acquisition. This Pug will start as my knockaround, lockup bike. If it survives that for a year, it will get a dramatic makeover next winter - something in the "campeur" genre perhaps, or a mini-randonneur...

Rode 14 miles this morning. The hilly route. And there had to be 25 mph head winds the whole way, out and back. How is that even possible? Darned Texas. At least it was coolish, high 70s. Forgot to turn off Wahoo app while I stopped for groceries on the way home, which slowed down my average since it also recorded my walking around. But I think I was about to break that pesky 15 mph average for that route. Oh, well, I'll try again this week.

Greybeard712 08-23-16 03:24 PM

Only 9.2 miles today on the '06 Tarmac SL. Put new tires on last night, rear flat today. Wasted the CO2 bottle on a bad back-up tube, walked 5½ miles to a bus stop (Ooof). I didn't buy this bike to walk it.
