I rode to work. I rode back home. It was windy. And cold. And fun.

Rode about 28 miles Friday night, between 16 mile round trip commute to downtown critical mass, and the approx 10 mile ride itself (nice group of folks too). Felt much stronger than this time last month for the same ride. Was able to sprint enough to feel more confident in rush hour traffic en route to the event. And wasn't miserably exhausted on the ride home, like I was last month.

Some days, when I evaluate on a ride by ride basis, it feels like I'm making little progress. But over the long haul I can tell there's progress. Feels good.

Was hoping to do at least 50 miles this morning. My riding buddy cancelled so I rode solo. About halfway into my first lap, I came upon an egret that had been struck by a car and sustained a broken wing. I called, and waited for, the bird rescue services to show up and take the bird to Bush Gardens where they are treated. Unfortunately, they came from a long way out and by the time I got back to the van for my mid-ride break, the wife had already finished her ride and was waiting on me. If she didn't have to go to the grocery store, I would have done another lap so I ended up with 25 miles.

I pushed it a little hard on the Roubaix Thu (26 miles) and Fri (21 miles). Rode with the big knee brace Fri and hobbled around with a cane the rest of the day :notamused:. Just used the elastic knee brace today for 15.3 in 1:15 on the Allez. A little pain but not bad. Medium warm (57°-65°), lite wind, perfect riding weather.

Cold and windy morning for SW FL. with another large group leaving from the LBS. Biked the 5 miles to the store arriving just as the roll-out began. Hung on for the first 7 miles and watched as they pulled effortlessly away. 70 more non stop miles and I was back home with energy to spare.

Verrry nice weather in Central IN today - 18 miles on the tandem with my favorite stoker and then 8 miles on the long wheelbase bent.

That's what I've been waiting to hear, olds! Leave some molten rubber on those frozen roads!

I did it.., I faced my fears and did my first ride of the season (admittedly, just to see if my new chain/chainrings were set up properly). Three flat miles, and I was quite surprised to find that there weren't any cobwebs to blow out. I'll try to ride every day from now on, even if it's just a little bit. I am so ready for this season.

Blaze it up!

My second ride of the season today: 4 miles at 38 degrees, no wind. Filled my bottles and most of my tool kit to make it a bit more of a challenge. "This time I'm in it for love..."

Did a dry run on my commute route today. The bike route here is certainly in disrepair. However, it taught me to lift my butt up off the saddle when going over speedbumps. And there are parts of the route that cars can't go through; but also parts where I'll walk my bike across busy streets, because drivers are less likely to hit pedestrians than bikes. It's going to be a good ride for getting in shape. Going there is mostly uphill (on a gentle incline), and coming back is mostly downhill.

Oh, yeah, it's 9 miles there and back, so not strenuous, but strenuous enough. :)

82 miles yesterday. Starting temp 38 F, finishing temp 24 F. A prefect ride. Super windy., gusts 20-30 mph at least. Tailwind out, headwind back.

John_V 02-28-16 01:15 PM

After two short rides, it was nice to do a good 45 mile ride this morning with my buddy Steve. It was very windy at times, but for the most part the winds behaved themselves.

ButchA 02-28-16 04:12 PM

Just a short 12 mile ride this afternoon... I'm probably still a pint low from the blood drive over at my Masonic Lodge yesterday, so I took it easy today. Time = 45:40 @ 15.8 mph (avg).

This is a shot of my C&V '85 Fuji Del Rey and my 2000 Chevy Silverado at the parking lot in West Creek Pkwy business complex, west of Richmond, VA. It's shaped like a horseshoe with the 288 expressway overpass in the middle. From one end to the other and back again (out 'n back) is 6 miles total. Lots of time trial riders go in there and race on weekends (hardly any traffic) and seems like they are doing 50 mph! Full kit, aero bars, butt up high, head and torso crouched down low, etc... Good Lord!

ButchA, well done. Give yourself a day to recover then go for another ride!

We took our tandem out for 47.01 miles today.

I was up 'til the wee hours of yesterday re-publishing my books so I slept late. Decided on a trike ride - right tire flat. Swapped out the tube, pumped (and pumped) and discovered the tire didn't seat. Let out the air, re-pumped (and pumped) only to discover the middle of the tread is split showing cord. So much for the cheap (in quality, not price) Kenda K-West tires. only 1600 miles. Went online and can't find any tires (other than Kenda) in my size 406x32 (20x1.25). Schwalbe makes a 406x35, might have to go to that. Didn't want the wider tires. Oh, the tribulations of bike/trike ownership. But it's a good hurt.

So I took the Allez out again for a short 13.5 miles 1:04. Overcast, gloomy day, but warm (mid 60s).

58 yrs old here. Started out oh a month ago. working my way to some mileage. Made 15 miles today, no hills. Yesterday was 10Miles, half of it in a decent headwind. 8 miles two days before that, with hills. Things are looking up.
Although have smoked all my life. My lungs are shot. I started doing this after taking a drug test for a job. Seems they noticed too many protiens and ketones. Blood test came later, and the results told me to start eating better and get some excercise. Due to not eating well, I dropped close to 20 lbs in the past 6 to 8 months. From 200 to 180. Intend to keep it off also. :) peace out!

canklecat 02-28-16 07:58 PM

About 14 miles Sunday, half into a stiff wind so I'd like to claim extra credit -- but the tailwind blew me home easily which offset the first half.

Neck aching from Friday's ride, which included several miles on some very rough brick. But not aching enough to keep me home. Reminds me of how much more painful it'd be without that suspension fork, padded saddle and upright bars.

Stopped halfway to bag up some discarded but good clothing dumped along the roadside. No way to tote it on the bike today, one of the few times I didn't have my trunk bag and bungee cords. I'll take a heavy duty bag and bungees next trip and haul the stuff to a donation center.

Springly (?) warm for Feb. 28 so of course a bike ride this afternoon. Only 9 miles but very windy, which was fine when it was a tailwind and a challenge at other times. But fun.

TCR Rider 02-29-16 09:49 AM

A hint of spring Sunday. 55 deg although with a noticeable 13 mph wind. 35.3 miles @ 16.1 mph with 1179 feet.

Greybeard712 02-29-16 02:49 PM

Sunny today, 47° at the start, no wind. 20.0 miles 1:34 on the Allez including the new McCarran bike path (south of Gregg). Nice n' smooth. Wind came up on the way home from lunch at SenCen (Senior Center).

Killed two birds with one stone today and rode our 4th Annual Tax Time Ride. The wife and I took our tax info to our tax lady and, while in Tarpon Springs, rode the Pinellas Trail down to Dunedin. Stopped for a pricey lunch and then headed back to pick up our tax papers. It was a slow ride but you can't go too fast on this trail because of all the intersections that cross it. Lots and lots of stops but a great ride.

1989Pre 02-29-16 04:47 PM

My third consecutive day of riding this season. Four flat miles on the Eastcoast Greenway.
40 degree temps and no wind. It was good to get out.
