Bike cleaning/maintenance day yesterday so no ride. Nice and hot this morning at 7:00 am (in the 70s) and it was windy and humid to boot. Oak tree pollen was heavy this morning and getting everything green. No riding buddies today so it was a good 40 mile solo ride.

Looks like a menacing Biker Gang.


I was able to get out for a 7 mile ride in quite warmish conditions yesterday evening after work.

DANG, left the house and spritzing from the sky. Made it to the ride start with clearing but windy conditions. First mile was somewhat sane but then 28mph!!!!! Fast then faster then ease on back to fast then faster and rinse-repeat so didn't hang on too long. Took a short cut then hooked on again and then OFF AGAIN . Gotta love it!!!!!

76 miles completed under sunny, warm, windy conditions. First time in many-MANY years I've bicycled 4 days in a row. Feeling good despite some unsettling news regarding my Prostate Cancer. Finally also had an after ride scale weight of 136lbs instead of the 145lbs I've been stuck at. Tomorrow day 5???? Only the SHADOW KNOWS. :lol:

Ditto just like yesterday. Another extremely windy day ahead of this week's big rain event. I decided to get in another 1 hour walk in the park.

75F in February! 13 mile ride after work. Windy but some of it was a tailwind. Rain expected next few days.
Don't know how much of a problem pet-dumping is on Lake Road on the far Southside of Indy. Isolated area not far from White River.

Didn't get much sleep last night and couldn't fall back to sleep after my 4:30 am bathroom call. I don't know why I decided to ride 60 miles today but I did. The heat, humidity and strong wind didn't help. It wasn't a pretty speed but I got the ride done.

Not as hot this morning as it has been but still got into the upper 70s midway through my ride. There wasn't much humidity today, which was nice but the wind hadn't changed much over the past few days. Did a nice solo, 40 mile ride at the usual place.

Winds blowing 8mph with temp. 68F greeted me for first 35 mile segment that started at 3:54AM today. Got home for a kit change and bite to eat then back out with winds 12mph and temps rising to low 80's. Completed another 66 miles for 101 today. GOOD DAY!

Had a solo, 40 mile, wind tunnel ride this morning. Not too bad going out but the return was a killer.

Got 15 miles in with my wife. Surprised me that we had an average speed of 16mph. That is really good for her. It was a really nice ride, no wind and sunny. Just a bunch of hog houses and the smell that goes with them. LOL

Rain, rain, rain!
It may not stop until Sunday, and the rivers are rising. But, we got a momentary reprieve around Noon today.
With the roads still too wet I again went out to the park, and walked 16 laps around the quarter mile oval. Talk about boring, but it still counts as 90 minutes of exercise.

Group ride, 43 miles Friday night in the misting rain. Coolish, mid-40s, but not bad since we were dressed for it. Good to be on the bike again. Had a relapse of the winter flu blues, first ride since last weekend.

Rowan and I had a good week of cycling!!

Last Sunday we cycled a 200 km randonnee (215.5 km!!)

Then between Tuesday and today we cycled the Great Victorian Rail Trail:

We did a bit extra on the Wednesday so all up, we cycled 312.4 on that cycling tour.

In total: 527.9 km in a week!!

I almost didn't ride today. Had about two hours worth of sleep last night and I was pretty tired when I got out of bed. I needed at least a 30 mile ride to hit 900 miles and guarantee a 1,000 mile month. I went and did the 30 miles, but it wasn't pretty. I think I was the slowest road cyclist out today. I also can't believe that one of my cycling buddies stuck with me for the whole time at that speed.

I went on a nice 17.30 mile ride this afternoon around 2:00pm. No more chest ache, breathing issues, Flu symptoms, etc... I felt great! Yay!! :)

The batteries were dead in my old Garmin GPS (mounts on handlebars), so I brought along an old beat up part of a wrist watch and used that as a stopwatch/timer. I stopped it at the out 'n back point in the ride, and decided to quickly make a video showing my C&V '85 Fuji and the beautiful, unseasonably warm, 73°F temp outside.

17.30 miles in 1 hr, 5 min, 35 sec.... For an avg speed of 15.8 mph.

Only to the grocery store today. AM storms limited the fun stuff :(

They're Back!!!

Our City Park has been infested again with those obnoxious Pokemon Go creatures. Last year I documented their bizarre behavior during the height of the last infestation. You cannot miss them, or at the very least you should not ignore them, as they are the ones in the autos that are completely stopping in the middle of the park's roads. They are also fond of parking haphazardly anywhere and everywhere. "No Parking" signs along the roads' edges do not stop them.

This year I noticed some of their behavior has evolved. Some are actually exiting their autos, and are congregating in hordes along the MUP. This herding behavior is completely blocking the pathways to other pedestrians and cyclists. With their noses firmly implanted into their cell phones they are completely oblivious to other users of the MUP.

They also appear to be impervious to rain. Today when I was trying to get in a walk along the MUP, I was hoping after the sprinkling rain started, it would cause them to scurry out of the way and back under the rocks they came from , but they were not deterred.

I persevered also, and got in a 6.25 mile walk in 2.25 hours.

28 miles with a friend visiting from out of town on a beautiful Saturday late afternoon, sunny and cool after a weeklong rain and morning t-storms. And I didn't get us lost this time.

Ditto, the Pokemon Goers. Must be a revival of the game, new features or creatures. Mostly I saw 'em along the grass off the roads. I don't worry about 'em on the MUP. Not my personal racetrack, I only use it for leisurely convenience rides to and from downtown. There are faster routes if I'm in a hurry. Yeah, I suppose it can be annoying, but that's the nature of MUPs. Always has been, always will be. As long as they're not flopped in the actual bike lane on the city streets, I don't care.

Lots of rain today and tonight but some dry hours late afternoon. Rode the tandem solo a couple of miles around the neighborhood to check out the shifting after spending time during the rain replacing all three rings on the main crankset. A bit worn after 8.200 miles. All seems good.
Then, another few miles on the short wheelbase 'bent. Raining cats and rats right now but Sunday is supposed to be pretty good for February.

Does your city have an Animal Control department that could help with control of those creatures?

Today was "grocery grabbing day." Three trips out to buy supplies since the front basket doesn't hold a bunch and thus a very good workout riding 2002 36lb $100.00 cheapo 7sp Magna upright with 10mph/14mph winds in the upper 70'sF to mid 80'sF.

Yesterday was planned to be a fast LBS ride and then slow on my own just to add some mileage, BUT sure didn't work out that way. They started off, group of 20 riders, immediately at 21mph then by mile 3 they were messing with 28mph that is crazy fast for this geezer. Some started to drop off so the line was down to 12. A short increase to 30mph then new lead rider and back down to 26mph when.......next I knew I was veering left avoiding the carnage in front of me and OVER a wheel I ride. :eek: :eek: After a long delay, riders were OK but one bike was not, :cry: , I take off and try to catch some others who left before me but no such luck riding with legs that were still burnt from Thursday's 101 miles.

A planned enjoyable 80+ mile morning turned into a 52 mile workout that was not fun. Decided to go out after dinner for some added miles when low and behold droplets start descending from the clouds. Had enough of the wind and water so finished with 70 for the day.

15.6 miles (25.1k). First ride in a week, It's been below freezing or snowing (and dealing with health issues). Really cold this morning (25°) but lotza sunshine. Snow predicted for tomorrow and it doesn't look good for the rest of the week. My muscles have turned to mush during all this time off.

Finally, after a week of rain, 60-70F temps, rising rivers, and assorted Flash Flood Warnings I was able to get in a ride. With the temp rising to 50F and an overcast sky it felt more like a typical winter day. I stayed out for a 125 minute ride.

By the way, today when I cruised through our City Park, I did not see any of those obnoxious Pokemon Go creatures obstructing traffic in the roads or on the MUP. Maybe cold weather keeps them at bay.
