A nice 35 miles in today. Bit of a headwind from the SW, but we all know they make us stronger.

PedalheadSavage 02-25-18 08:27 PM

19.6 foggy miles this morning. At least there was no wind!

After 4 days laid up in bed with some nasty flu/virus/thing, I finally got out on a bike again today. 25 miles in cold wet late afternoon gray. Beats being sick!

Gerry221 02-26-18 05:04 AM

A nice 21 miler yesterday. Cold but bright and clear. Leisurely pace, avg was 14mph.

Saturday rode up into the hills and around a railway trail. Bit of a workout going uphill into the wind. Once turned around though the wind was behind so I was flying along; slight downhill. Came back into town and headed south for bit. Around 170km.

Sunday rode south for about 80km then came back along the coastline. Got smashed by a short windy thunderstorm which I thought'd I'd outrun! Had to hide under a bridge for a bit once the lightning strikes began. Some nice up and down windy stretches along the coastal dunes at one stage.

Didn't get a chance to post yesterday's ride. Met my riding buddy and started off with a really nice pace until his pollen allergy started to get to him. He dropped off and went home so I was out solo, early in the ride. Around mile 20, the regular Sunday fast group passed me so I jumped on their tail end and rode with them for a while. They had the speed up to 24 mph, which I was surprised that I was able to keep that speed up with no issues. Unfortunately, the guy in front of me was having some problems and kept slowing down and speeding up. After a while, I just decided to drop off. Toward the end of my second lap, I caught up to my wife and rode 4 slow miles with her. A nice combination of speeds today.

Did anyone else notice that big, bright object in the sky today? If I remember correctly, I believe it's called the Sun.
And what a beautiful day it is with lower 60's F, light NE wind, and not a cloud in the sky!
It's also the first day in weeks that I applied sunscreen before a ride. Got in 131 minutes.

Yes, WINDY but Sunny and 50+, rode around my area for 13 miles finding HILLS to see how much my lowest gear can take! Stopped at the local park for a photo! https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4749/...9f79979d_h.jpg2018febtrike-4 by BJ Ondo, on Flickr

30 miles on a lovely cool sunny Monday afternoon. Almost feel back to normal after two months with a respiratory bug. Still some residual wheezing but my speed and power felt pretty good, especially on hills that usually thwart me. Had to remind myself to ease off the pressure a little and just enjoy the ride.

Another wonderful day in the neighborhoods, and I got in a ride for the third day in a row.
However, my legs were not so joyous, and did not want to respond very well.
So, I ended up doing some slow rolls in nearby neighborhoods for 123 minutes.
I'll call it my Vitamin D ride.

John_V 02-27-18 04:06 PM

Had a very good, 50 mile solo ride today. Tried to finish it in 3 hours, give or take a few, but the wind had other plans. Tomorrow’s not supposed to be as windy. We’ll see.

Made it out the door at 1AM this morning after 2.5 hours of sleep greeted by a 91% Waxing Gibbous Moon, 68F, high humidity and light winds. Temperature kept dropping and fog soon started forming. BUMMER :( After a slow rolling 2.5 hours I packed it in and back home with 35 miles. Managed to eat a bit, had a nice snooze, kit change and back on the road. Met the Tuesday group that has grown with the arrival of Snow Birds and now we have some Texas Roadhouse Members from Louisville so I went into wheel sucking mode for as long as possible, which was not very long. :D Turned off and rode my on own finally getting back home with 113 miles for the day. A VERY GOOD RIDE TODAY. :thumb:

Finally got started on 2018 commuting - 22 miles today. 31F this morning but upper fifties and some sun in the pm.

OldTryGuy 02-28-18 08:10 AM

WOW, what a beautiful moon at 3:54 this morning helping to light the way. Had a longish 3 hours of sleep and woke up ready to go so out the door for a 2 mile warm up to ride beginning, then a 57 mile riding Rotonda West round and round we go then another 3 miles back home for an early morning Metric.

John_V 02-28-18 12:36 PM

25 miles with the wife today. I was going to do a 60 mile ride with my buddy but he couldn't make it today. It's rescheduled for tomorrow. Today's ride also got me over the 1,000 mile mark for the month.

JanMM 02-28-18 07:52 PM

Got out for a 7 mile ride after work. Thought today was going to be rained out.

Rollfast 03-01-18 01:27 AM

I rode Darla my straightbar Schwinn Red Hornet to the LBS to have him put the fenders on, something my messed up hand won't let me do well, much less I needed a third hand.

It's getting really cold out there and looking and feeling like it will snow. Plenty of time to get it done.

MidSouthBiker 03-01-18 03:36 PM

Just what we don't need, more and more rain!

As a consolation prize I did get in a 4 mile walk at the quarter mile track oval today. I got soaking wet yesterday before I could get to the half mile mark.

Edit: I just heard the TV weatherman say that Feb.2018 was the wettest Feb. on record with 13.43", raining 21 out of 28 days, and our Feb. average rainfall is only 4.3". Now the big issue is rising rivers and flooding. The Mississippi River is already above flood stage and has not crested yet.

John_V 03-01-18 03:44 PM

63 brutal miles today with 25+ mph winds. It wasn't pretty but we got the job done. First metric of the month. Let's see if I can beat last month's 5 metrics.

canklecat 03-01-18 09:48 PM

40 miles on a beautiful, cool, sunny Thursday afternoon and evening with big moon. Intended to ride only 20 miles, took a wrong turn and just kept going until I was unlost. Best I've felt in months. Feels like I'm finally over that weeks-long bout with flu.

John_V 03-02-18 01:01 PM

42 miles split into two rides. I saw the owner of my LBS at the park yesterday and she asked me to come and do the shop's group ride this morning. Didn't know if I was going to be able to it after doing a metric century yesterday. That and the fact that I don't like doing group rides with people I don't know made me decide not to do it. This morning, I changed my mind and did the 32 mile group ride. It turned out to be a really good ride. Because of the route of my daily rides, it's been a while since I've had a ride with a 17 mph average speed. I wanted to do at least 40 miles today so I ended the shop ride and started another ride for my cool down. Did 10 more miles in the subdivision next to the park at a much slower pace.

MidSouthBiker 03-02-18 04:10 PM

My biggest decision earlier today was what would I do first, go shopping or go ride the bike.
Shopping took a back seat, because I couldn't wait to get out on the bike. Got in 122 minutes on a beautiful, cloudless, cool day.

OldTryGuy 03-02-18 10:01 PM

Rode on grocery grabber earlier today for 15 miles but kitting up right now to head out in a few minutes for an overnight almost FULL MOON 100+ miles. If plans work out I should have 125+ miles before I pack it in. Was supposed to have a special PET SCAN today to see if my prostate cancer has metastasized but the place screwed up so it was put off until next week. Might as well bike since the weather is cooling. :thumb: :thumb:

Minivans get a bad rap; they are great for hauling bikes. I knocked off work early today, and took my Trek Crossrip 3 for a 19 mile ride from the Illinois River in East Peoria, IL, to Morton IL. Uphill into the wind for the first half, and WHEE! all the way down. After riding my 48 lb Fat Bike most of the winter, my Crossrip felt like a Ferrari!
