Yesterday. Fifty degrees, rain and mud; 41 miles, 2500 feet of elevation gain. 30s today and rain/sleet so I'm sitting at the computer. 70s this week!

It was a lot cooler this morning than yesterday, so I decided to do some yard work for a few hours.

I then decided today would be Bike Wash Sunday. It took longer than expected to service all three bikes.

That explains only a 55 minute ride.

35 tandem miles on a club ride today. Frost warnings for this morning but by the time of the ride start at 10am temps were in mid-forties. And improved from there. Experience some mild southern Indiana hills but some of them were rollers, which is always a good thing.

30 mile casual group ride Sunday. Needed a break after pushing hard on solo road bike training rides recently.

I finally got my first pre-breakfast exercise ride in for this year. Now to get back in the habit, to get back in shape. ... yes, I know, "round" is a shape too... :)

Track cycle near completion, needs new rear cones and bar tape. Never less, 1 hour last night on C-Force Trainer, also 12+ road miles today just under 15mph.

wthensler 04-30-18 05:38 PM

32 miles on a sunny but slightly windy afternoon. Winds coming from the NE meant the hard work came last.

JanMM 04-30-18 08:56 PM

20 miles today as a bike commuter. A bit cool in the morning and a bit warm in the evening. Just right.

It is now warming into to just over 80F, which means nicer weather to get more yard work done, which is what I did yesterday.

After all the bikes got washed and serviced last Sunday, I decided to retire the wintertime, heavy steel Hybrid for a while. I broke out the lighter steel Wabi SingleSpeed.

I got in only 77 minutes today, and I can tell it's going to take a few rides to adjust to that single speed action.

Sounds like you racking up the mileage. Good for you!

No ride yesterday. Worked on the CRS getting it ready for the MS150 this weekend. Rode the ACE again today for a nice 40 miles in some fairly strong winds during the last half of the ride.

Yes, it was very windy here, too. I managed almost 40, but it started getting late, and admittedly I’m not in the best of biking shape. We have the annual Tour de Madison on May 19th. I signed up for it, but not sure I’ll be up for the 73 miler in the hills of VA like I did last year.....

JanMM 05-01-18 06:54 PM

Another bike commuting day today. About 19 miles. Somewhat windy on the ride home here, too, but nice and warm.

Nice Trip down the Coast

I put in about 28 miles today on my Giant Escape down the coast from north Naples. I pulled in at Verdado Beach and took a break. I had the place pretty much to myself as most of the snowbirds have gone home for the year. The wind was out of the east so it wasn't too bad going out or returning. My only issue is getting back before the heat really comes on. Our temperatures have been getting to the 90's. I'm not the fastest rider or the long distance guy either but I love getting out there with the sun shining and under a blue sky. Just can't beat it. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...777ef7f46b.jpg

Great place to take a break from the bike.

10 miles on the road bike with a group ride today, slowly working towards get my biking legs back after an entire winter off. No more knee issue, either. Hooray! Happy to have my ultra-lightweight bike under me again. 8 miles yesterday on the ebike on the very hilly gravel roads in my area, testing out the ups and downs of towing a 2-child capacity trailer that has been converted to carrying VDOT orange litter bags. Picked up 1/4 of a bag of road litter enroute. Learned a lot about towing a lightweight trailer off a bike, especially in hard winds. Thank heavens for that sweet ebike - it easily handled its fair share of towing the load and all the hills, and only once fell over when it was parked - it was pushed forward by the trailer which was pushed itself by the wind while I was off the bike retrieving litter from the far side of the road. Now I know to always turn the front wheel perpendicular to the direction of travel when I'm off the bike...and it is windy. Getting warm now - it was in the low 80s.

Importance of nutrition

Just stumbled upon this app (endur8), tells you when you need to fuel to perform at your optimal level through real-time alerts. Useful for the more serious athlete looking to shave some time off. Team GB cyclist Elinor Barker has just joined and endorsed them as well :) The app is called endur8

Mainiac 05-02-18 03:25 PM

Only 15 miles today. The temperature today is 89 degrees, about 40 degrees warmer than yesterday. Too warm for Maine for this time of year, and the heat really got to me.

wthensler 05-02-18 05:38 PM

36 miles, swirling winds again, but otherwise gorgeous afternoon. Tri-biker blew past me on the final stretch into strong headwinds. I thought 18 was respectable in these conditions, but then again I’m no spring chicken.

Longfellow02 05-02-18 06:14 PM

14 miles on my lunch hour.
It was way too warm here today... about 85 degrees at noon, and I'm just not used to it yet...
I've only been back outside for a couple weeks, after a winter on the trainer.
Sunday's ride was about 50 degrees, so quite a difference.

JanMM 05-02-18 07:57 PM

Sixth day in a row (not including Sat/Sun) riding to work. 20 miles. Gonna be lazy tomorrow and drive. (Pretty good chances of rain.)

"Oh yeah, I forgot... I did my good deed for the day too. While in West Creek Pkwy, just near the overpass of the 288 expressway, I noticed another cyclist, off his bike, sitting in the grass, rubbing his left foot. I had too much speed, and simply waved to him as I rode by. But then, something hit me or perhaps it's still the Coast Guardsman in me, but I slowed down, turned around in the same lane, and rode back to him. I asked him, "Hey, are you alright?". He said that he just bought a new pair of bicycle shoes and was trying to break them in. I looked at his left heel, and he had a bleeding blister above his small sport sock. I said, "Dude, you're bleeding!" and he said, "Yeah, I know. I'm alright. Thanks for stopping!". I got off my bike, unzipped my seat bag, and sift though it and pull out a plastic container of bandaids. I hand them to him and say, "Here's a bandaid for you!". He takes a bandaid, thanks me again, and puts it on his left heel. I tell him, "Have a great ride. Take care!", and turn around and resume my ride."
I guess the moral of this story is that we cyclists look out for one another, no matter who we are or what we ride! https://www.bikeforums.net/images/smilies/beerchug.gif

Funny you mention this. While I was out riding today in the north Naples FL area, I passed a guy laying in the grass and bike on its side. I rode by and then turned around and went back. I woke him up and ask him if he was alright. He was just taking a nap break in the shady grass. He thanked me for stopping and I went on my way.. It only took a few minutes to stop and make sure the guy was OK. better to be safe than sorry.
