23 miles on the road bike Saturday evening. Nice now that the rain has stopped for awhile. Temp in the low 70s-high 60s.

Son had a soccer game in Granite Bay so drove up 2 hours early, rode up to Auburn and back and was on time for kick off.

Today started out very warm 75°, rode to my first rest stop to eat 1/2 an energy bar and took off my jersey to bask in the sun for 15 minutes. I won't get very many more chances to do that for a while. At my last stop, in a state park, there was a group with a bunch of very young kids running around in a large grass field. They were between 2 & 3, I don't remember being that old, but I can visualize it. They were just running and rolling around, very cute. Half way up the long hill on the last leg of my ride home there were several cars pulled over, when I got near I could see they were watching a herd of about a hundred elk, looked like all does, grazing in a very large grass field. Later very near home in a residential zone I came across a large mule deer with a tremendous rack just calmly walking around. It's hunting season and they know where they are safe. 53 miles

33 miles earlier today on a very flat club ride from the southeast side of Indy to rural areas to the south. Halfway stop at a Mickey D's in Franklin, then back to Indy. Just barely above freezing at the start, and then maybe in the low 40's at the end. But sunny the whole ride.

Give or take 30 miles around Lake Okoboji this afternoon. 50 degrees and gusts to 25mph. Wore to too much and worked up a bit of a sweat. Well, then you just have to keep going or get a chill. I had to make a stop at one of our local breweries before heading home. And (picture B B King) "The chill is gone!"

Saturday: 30 mile solo road ride, with a half mile of gnarly dirt thrown in just to scout part of an upcoming off-road ride.
Sunday: 27 mile half solo/half group road ride (don't ask!)
Today: commuted, so I'll get the usual 19 miles

WOW!!! Finally had a cool morning and finally really enjoyed my ride. Last Tuesday's 137 miles were hot and humid as was Saturday's 140 miles BUT TODAY the temps got down into the 60s°F and hardly broke a sweat. Finished up with 127 miles and getting ready to go back out to meet-up with the Tuesday PM riders. Should be able to add an additional 25 to 35 miles.
SWEET
Managed to add another 35 miles but not all with the group. Just too fast after the miles and huge dinner.

23 mile training ride with the missus. Her coach's instructions were for her to keep it in zone 4 for most of the ride, and zone 5 on the climbs, so Mrs. Ross told me "don't go easy on me, ride like you do when we're in a group and you're always dropping me."
So at the end of the ride she says "Thanks for not killing me." WTF?!?! I was trying to!

Just 11 miles of gravel up to “The Hollow” and back. Stopped to talk with a guy hunting woodcock, which I didn’t realize is a game bird. Can’t be much eating there. 43 degrees and some wind, so I wore a wool long sleeve undershirt, wool socks, gloves, etc. but my eyeballs got cold. Looking ahead it’s mostly days with highs in the 30s, so it may have been the last ride of the season.

Commuted today, so I'll wind up with the usual ~19 miles r/t. Gorgeous brisk clear day, but it's the first time this season I've brought out the cycling jacket. Winter's a-comin'

I got about 20 miles out when it started to rain, so I turned around just as the small shower passed. This is high desert and we get some snow but very little rain. I was near home and wanted to do some more miles, so I headed up into the mountains. 8 miles with 1800'elevation gain.I worked hard and reached the top just as it got completely dark. the road is new, mostly straight with a perfect smooth surface. I turned my light to it's highest setting, 1500 lumens and headed home. That late there is no traffic so I took the whole lane peddling as fast as I could. I could see over 200' ahead of me, but none of the trees that line the road. It was a very fast decent, like riding through a tunnel. 59 miles Here is a picture of the road in the daylight.

Commuted again today. Looks like Saturday's ride will get rained out, so trying to get as many miles in for the week when I can.

Finally!
After a week of cold rainy weather, complete with frost watches and warnings, the sun made an appearance today.
It's supposed to be even better weather tomorrow.
And, I finally got in a ride for 66 minutes.

Still waiting for the "cold front" to come through. Wasn't too uncomfortable this morning at 77°F and 15mph winds but that didn't help me keep up with the LBS morning ride. Hung on for 10 whole miles and then back to bucking the winds while listening to some tunes. 75 miles is all I could get in today, just no spark.

Needed a few days rest after last Sunday. Made up for it this weekend, with 30 miles Friday on the comfort hybrid, 35 miles Saturday on the road bike in springlike weather, and another 20 minutes on the indoor trainer and shoulder PT exercises. Busted up shoulder feeling much better the past couple of weeks, regaining range of motion, less pain at night.

Yesterday morning. One reason I love riding my hybrid - it's the perfect bike for an easy, early morning run to Denton, TX for no other reason that to have really good breakfast tacos and a good Franconia Bock beer. 30 mile round trip.

50 miles today on my hybrid. Temp 50 F, Wind 12 mph. Glad I went. Almost didn’t go out. Instead, I nailed it. Getting motivated is sometimes the hard part as the weather gets colder.
