Last night, 28.3 miles through forest and farmland. Saw my first wild boar. I've heard they were around and there he was, two car lengths away, moving the same speed as me and trapped alongside the road by a line of trees and bushes. We were both happy when he found an exit and vanished mid-leap into the surrounding dark.

First ride since July today

I’d just started riding again I’m May, after over 50 years. So, of course I spent the summer dealing with coronary problems (AFib) and prostate pain.

Finally had a procedure (Rezum) three weeks ago and after doctor ok went for a test ride today. No prostate pain but my legs were more tired than when I’d started up again in May. Guess the muscles resented not being used after I teased them with activity.

I guess I’ll have to work out all winter to get into shape for the spring. Sounds good to me.

Yes 11.21 miles on road/desert on my mountain bike.

A cold ride this morning with a hint of smoke from our numerous fires. :( To top it off, the winds yesterday splashed all the dirt to the path along the bay side.

I did about 15 miles of The Sufferfest. It hurt too.

Overnight, 12 midnight to 2:30am. Almost no cars and so a chance to hear a world devoid of human sounds. New roads, made possible by the increased range with the new bike. Also, coyotes (I assume), squealing and yipping about 100 feet from a spot I'd just passed.

Hit a milestone today with 2k miles for the year on a sunny but cold morning. What better way to ride it but on my road bike with the most miles.
A mix of road and mtb for those miles. Even if I've always been an mtb rider, I don't hate. I just ride both and enjoy them. ;)

45 minutes today with my new best friend. This little gem may not be fast, but I can drive one-handed. It will probably take six months before I can ride my regular bikes again.

My first sub-freezing ride of the year last night. I sat indoors in my coat for a while before heading out, allowing me to start quite warm with minimal layering and avoiding the need for a strip stop. 16.7 miles. Most everybody staying home because of the cold, which was good for me. No wild animals this time.

bpcyclist 11-03-19 01:27 PM

Yep. 65 miles and 1800 feet of elevation gain from my house in the city out to the foothills of Mt. Hood and back. Left early, as usual, and saw nobody on the way out, but tons of cyclists and runners and walkers on the way back. I have gotten spoiled riding super early. I usually don't see anyone but the occasional people headed off to work the early shift and some truckers getting an early start. I must say, I do prefer it when there are fewer people out. Maybe I'm antisocial. Spectacular day here, though. Cold and clear. It won't last...

One hour on the trike today, touring neighborhoods in my community. Beautiful autumn day. Average speed was 8 mph. Lol.

Whooping 7 miles this afternoon - finished not long before light rain began. One modest hill on the route which I’ve targeted as my Fall/Winter High Intensity Interval Training project. Plan is to ride this hill at least once weekly and track progress on Strava. My best time is 2:14 breathing hard, so this should work for me for HIIT. (At least 44 other cyclists have done this hill faster than me, so not expecting KOM jersey :))

*FINALLY*... I was able to get out my beloved 1985 Fuji Del Rey and go for a nice ride, while I had free time! :D

As a member of the Shriners Band here in town, we always play the Oktoberfest, and do gig after gig after gig all through the month of October, raising money for The Shriners Hospital. So, as you can guess, I had absolutely NO free time on the weekends at all, so I didn't even ride once last month!

Anyway, I cleaned up my '85 Fuji, double checked the air pressure, and went for a nice quick ride in the western suburbs here in Richmond, VA. Very speedy ride with Strava enabled on my phone, clipped into the holder on the handlebars. 12.09 miles in 45:07 for a quick 16.1 mph speed.

14 mile ride today with wife on her e-assist Trek and me on my long wheelbase ti 'bent. Beautiful sunny afternoon - a bit cool but nice. Rode up same hill as yesterday but not at high intensity - wife in ECO mode and me not breathing hard. Took about a minute longer to get up the hill today. Nice to have a hill nearby that can be used for training as desired but is also not a challenge to get up at relaxed pace.

One month ago, on October 5th, I posted a similar composite of three odometers, showing the mileage on my three bikes. On that day, I had reached 1,000 miles. Exactly one month later, my posts shows the same three odometers, but with 500 more miles, to break the 1500 mile barrier!

It was a perfect day in N. GA. Started out at 60 degrees and then rose to a very pleasant 65 with sunny skies. However I only rode 14 miles...why you ask? Because I'm stupid. Left my water bottle home in the fridge. Second time this year and there are no water options on my route...sigh.

But I sure do love my LOOK 585.

I did this the other day. Rode for a bit then reached down and--nothing!! Left it in the fridge! Was 37 miles from home. Fortunately , was able to find a little coffee shop in that little town and did a bit of hydration there before turning around.

That's not all I forget. I rode to the store last night and turned around and came home. It's only a bit over a mile, but when I dismounted and turned off my headlight, I was horrified to find my taillight in the "off" position. I had forgotten to turn it on. Riding right in the center of a fairly sizable urban city with no taillight. Idiot.

I am 55. I don't want to believe that I am already becoming forgetful. But I guess we are going to get to find out...

The dreaded “senior moments.” :D

Having them more frequently as well, but I’m 60, so I have an excuse. It’s not so bad when riding bikes, but when you fly an antique airplane, well...

smoore 11-06-19 05:41 PM

I'm 70 and yes...those moments seem to occur more often. Don't give in, find a system that will help you deal with it!

Cloudy and cold ride this morning. Just have to pedal on.

Good reason to have a reflector or reflective tape facing backwards in addition to light.
