Both! It's the main reason I do this. Cycling for hours enables me to eat some tasty treats that I'd otherwise avoid like the plague. Like the deep-fried Twinkie we shared in Moab --- MUCH better than I expected, similar to a donut, served with raspberry sauce and a small scoop of vanilla ice cream.

My wife and I put on some pounds regardless the miles we biked.
Someone talked me into Fat Tire Beer after each ride. That was followed by good Italian Dinner with wine and Tiramisu desert which is my favored. We can not afford that kind of rich food and are now paying for it with a very drastic reduced calorie diet.
You can not bike enough to burn that kind of stuff.
But we had fun while it lasted.
BTW, Omaha, NE has some fine bike trails also and fabulous restaurants and Zoo. We seen and enjoyed all of that on our way back to Chicago area thanks to Billydonn.

Easier to take pics of food than of cycling, eh?

Maybe this should be the area for the next 50+ ride.

BTW, I came home two pounds lighter. Maybe it was the altitude

We're staying at my brother's near Phoenix and we'll head home tomorrow. Last night, I had 2 (TWO) pieces of homemade coconut pie with real whipped cream and a butter pastry crust, after a dinner of BBQ'd steak, chicken and several side dishes. I expected to feel uncomfortably full, but I didn't feel full at all. I wonder what the scale will say when we get home. Fortunately, we've been very active here, either walking or riding every day.
