my 50th Birthday present
For my 50th birthday gift, my wife and kids are sending me away. To Paris, for the last day of the Tour!
I work for an airline, so the flight is cheap and my daughter is married to the son of a high ranking British Rail executive, so the high speed rail is next to nothing. I have a 4 day weekend, so I'm flying to London to meet my daughter, then she and I will be taking the train to Paris the day before the final day of the tour, spending 1 night in Paris and spending the last day watching the race before heading back to London to sleep before leaving Heathrow the next morning so I can get back to work the next day.
Has anyone spent just one day (well, good parts of two) in Paris to watch the last day of the tour?
I'll bet I'll be bushed.

Great present!
I haven't spent just one day in Paris, but my brother-in-law used to work for an airline that was downsizing. Part of his buy out was free flights for as long as the company stays in business (which they still are). So, he frequently flies to Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, London, Madrid, or Brussels on a Friday night and is back at work Monday morning. He said sleeping on the plane is the key.

Eurostar? OOOOOH a few problems with that at present
I'd take a bike with you as London to Paris on a bike might be Quicker
What a trip to have but is this occuring on your 50th?
If so you shouldn't be on here yet making us feel sick (Still want that Green Envy emoticon)
Great trip and one you will remember for a long time. Haven't done the last day but ridden out to the route for when the Tour came to the UK and it is worth all the money it is costing. But with cheap flights and possibly train travel- it is worth 20 times the amount it is going to cost you--
Any spare places?

Hopefully, I'll get business class on the way over and I'll have a better chance of sleeping. Something I could do anywhere, anytime when I was younger. Now, not so much.

I flew to Europe and could not sleep on the plane, even after having taken a Valium tablet. It was a miserable flight, I just could not get comfortable, but I would gladly suffer it to visit Paris again! Recently, someone told me those little neck pillows are great for sleeping on the plane.

One of the funniest scenes in the George Clooney movie, "Up in the Air" was the one where he had to show his colleague how to pack. One of the first things he did was throw a neck pillow in the garbage. You wouldn't believe how many people leave these things behind on planes. I can only guess most people find out they're not what they thought it was as useful as they thought.
I've done a few London and back in one weekend trips and I know I'm just going to be bushed. The good thing is, I won't adjust to time over there, so I'll be adjusted when I have to get to work. I think last time I spent some time over there, it took me a couple of weeks to get adjusted when I came back.
rumrum6 said it right; don't care that I'll be tired, it'll be awesome!
