First Ride on New (to me) Trek 2300

I went on my first ride on my craigslist-purchased Trek 2300 ($375).

Everything was perfect, so I've decided to keep this one, and sell my rusting Bottecchia.

This bike was made in 1992, but I'm sure it hasn't been on more than a few rides.

Can remember that style of frame from my early days in cycling. At that time it was the DGS BLX.

Looks as George said- A good catch but get the wheels checked over for spoke tension and true. And buy some new grease for the bearings and pivot points while the wheels are away. Ride report required now so point it in the right direction and let it go. Should be a 50 miler first trip out(Once the wheels come back)

The front wheel was a little out of true, and I fixed that with my truing stand. The biggest difference from my Bottecchia was the wider handlebars. These are nice, since I feel more in control at extreme low speeds (as in turning around on a narrow road).

I've often found that when you have something new, people tend to compliment you on it. So, I was thinking "I'll bet someone's going to say 'Nice Bike.'" Sure enough, I stop at a light, and a guy holding a Round Table Pizza advertising sign says "Hey, nice bike!"

I love those frames I would own one if one shows up in my area at a price that is reasonable.
Congratulations on finding a neat bike! Enjoy

Nice bike, Al. And excellent price too. I'm diggin' the purple bar tape.

I hope you have many happy miles together.

I remember when those first came out. I don't remember what they cost, but it seemed to me like way too much to spend on a bicycle at the time. Nice snag.

What about the fate of your trusty Bottecchia? Its release into the wild causes me great concern. Please be sure it gets a caring home!

A Nitto Technomic Deluxe stem would make a big improvement in the looks of that bike.

I'm going to do a complete paint touch up on it, and clean and detail it, and then decide whether to sell it or mount it on the wall.

Yes. I have a Technomic on the Bottecchia, and I'm going to transfer it over to the new bike.

Nice bike. I used to have a black/polished aluminum model, but I sold it a few years back for about the same price as you bought yours. I now have the 2004 version.
BTW, your stem looks to be a long way out of the head tube. Is it within the safe limit?

Yes, it was right at the limit. The frame is small for me, plus I like (need) high handlebars to prevent a sore neck. I've since replaced that adjustable stem with my super-tall Technomic. Although it looks like it, this one is no where near it's max height limit.
