Solvang Double Century

Next Saturday is the Solvang Double. I'll be there with a bunch of folks from over in the regional Nor Cal forum.
Any 50+ folks planning on being there? Look for me in my 50+ jersey. I'll be launching in the first wave at 5am.

This is me with my bride (who will be there, but isn't silly enough to do this ride.)

Indeed, at least a few. I did the Davis Double, photographed and actually did an audio recording for a podcast while riding (link).

Wave as you blast past me, Mr. Thousand Mile! I'm going to attempt the triple crown this year... We'll see how this goes.

Many of us live vicariously through what you heroic doublers do.....so remember details, take pics, write lots. I'm planning on a long season of many double centuries done in the comfort of my La-Z-Boy.

I don't know about blasting by, but I will visit if it's possible (no cars, narrow roads etc....).

Bikes: confidential infromation that I don't even share with my wife

Pack some extra Zertz, it's a long ride. Good luck and a detailed ride report is a must.

If Rick rides this ride I won't have to, I can just use his report.

The group is all over. Some at the ride start hotel, I'm in Solvang at the Royal Copenhagen.

Bikes: Several bikes, Road, Mountain, Commute, etc.

I'm way too weak to ride, but I will be working this double, so hope to see you all out there!

I asked Deb to let me work the lunch checkpoint (about mile 114 as I recall) but have yet to receive comfirmation on that, so subject to change.

My back problems from Cameo Real continue, plus I got sick in Taiwan last week. Hope to be back on the bike in time to ride Hemet; or at least Davis.

I will arrive Friday afternoon and am staying (camping) at the Flying Flags Resort in Buellton. Don't know the plans yet regarding a get together dinner but hope we can have one.

Good question Dante. I'm coming to the conclusion that the Calfee is too big for me. Although I've changed the set up since my Cameno Real disaster, so that may fix it . . . too soon to tell.

Deb has assigned me to the Guadalupe checkpoint, so I'll see you all there!

I'm getting there friday evening. I don't know the area, or when we'll roll in. My plan is pretty basic right now. Arrive, check in, locate the start, get the bike ready, find food, go to bed really early.

The check-in and start are at the same place. For you, coming from the north you'll be on Hwy 101 heading south. Take the Hwy 246 Buellton/Solvang exit, turn left on 246, go over 101 and turn left at the next traffic light, McMurray Rd. Go about 400 yards and there is Santa Ynez Marriott on your left.

We were talking about you guys while on our ride today and we were wondering if you had to deal with the wind like we did.

Yes we did. We didn't have the normal winds we usually have for this ride. I finished with a 11:50 ride time and 13:20 overall. I saw Rick and Lou several times during the ride, then went to dinner with them.

Congrats to all that did this thing! I rode with Keith today and he said due to the wind the top 5 were only able to break 10 hours, whereas last year they got under 9 hours.

If you saw a rider on a fixed gear Dawes bike, that was BF member Shprung.
