Bike for daughter

My daughter (soon to be 10) wants to move up to a road bike from the typical kids cruiser/coaster. I am thinking of finding a Trek KDR 1000 but they are pretty rare. We don't want a suspension fork, and suggestions on other bikes to look at?

I see you haven't received any responses yet.

I thought of you and your daughter when I saw this ad for a couple of Lightnings on Craigslist today. She could be riding the coolest bike in her school!

A mechanic at my Volvo place is selling a juvenile sized road bike, possibly a TREK. He's into higher end stuff so it should be a nice bike. I'll ask him for details and a price if you'd like.

In case you are still shopping I stumbled accross this week-old ad, could be close to what you're looking for though a tad bit older...

There are several threads asking this question in the Recreational & Family forum.

Have you looked at the Fuji kids bikes?

They also have 20 and 24 inch versions.

I don't know what part of NY you are in, But if you can get to a REI Store I saw a child size road bike in the Framingham MA REI store 2 days ago. I didn't look at the price

I have a Specialized Allez. Because I'm a doofus I often do a search on Ebay for "Allez". Occasionally a junior model comes up with 24" wheels. They seem really cool!

His absence from the forums these past 10 days or so leads me to suspect our friend has gone on a Spring Break vacation. I'm sure he will be thrilled to see how helpful we have all tried to be with his bike expenditures while he was away.

WOW You guys have been hard at work heloing me. A lot of great suggestions.
Yes Lenny - I was out in Utah skiing for the last time this year - what a trip, Alta had 100" of snow when we were there. My 9 YO daughter turned into a powder hound, for all those familiar with Alta she did such runs as Rustler, Sidewinder & Supreme's Dog Leg Shoot - what a proud Papa I am...

Anyway - she is real small for her age, the Trek & Specialized Allez may be too big - I'll check my local dealer. The Fuji looks interesting. The Bianchi would be nice as I know someone at Bianchi. Unfortunately we are dealing with someone only 4' tall but growing fast.
