I have noticed a sudden influx of 50+'s on this forum lately. I received this photo on my Facebook today which reminded me of the standard welcome greeting here:

Some things you can just have too much of. I get two annual physical exams because of my profession and one very thorough exam annually at the Cleveland Clinic as part of my compensation package. Colonoscopy included..

Don't be like me: I got mine 6 weeks ago at 60 after procrastinating for 10 years. Luckily, I'm OK (the test wasn't bad - the doc and nurse were folks I've worked with for years) but if anything pathological had been going on, it would have had a good headstart.
(Went for a bike ride six hours after getting home from the exam.)

When I first read..."Don't be like me"... I got nervous! Glad to hear all is well!

Just a guess but I'm betting you didn't do much bike riding the day prior to the exam.

Not for very far at a time, anyway, before needing to take a................ahem.............break. :cry:

Lots of bathroom breaks the afternoon and evening and morning before the test!
The preop drugs were not unpleasant...............can't beat demerol/versed (when medically indicated)

"Don't be like me" is a cheap trick to get to get the reader's attention. It worked! I'm fine, for an older middle-aged guy, thanks.

Is that like saying: "I'm in pretty darn good shape for the condition I'm in"?:thumb:

I'm 65 and get one every five years. I don't like it but hope to get six or seven more.

Make sure your doc
uses tri-flo.

Who needs an indication?

I get another one in July. Every 3 years. My father died from colon cancer that had spread. Test is nothing. Night before is a PAIN. That first food REALLY does taste good after the test.

Lack of physical activity is one of the most important risk factor for colon cancer. As a result, most folks here are at relatively low risk. Here's what I suggest: Each of us needs to resolve to cause five of our friends to get that colonoscopy. Being a colonoscopy evangelist is an odd calling, but an important one nonetheless. A colonoscopy can prevent colon cancer by removing pre-cancerous polyps, which means that colon cancer is almost wholly preventable. It is a miserable, worthless way to die. The friend that you convince to get the test will thank you when they learn about a few polyps being found and removed.

July 19 will mark the fourth anniversary of my last round of chemo treating my stage 4 colon cancer. Every day I experience the residual effects of seven surgeries, radiation and two brutal series of chemo. I beat it (probably) due to good doctors, good medicine, and good luck, along with about 12k miles on my bike. A little prevention beats a whole lot of cure.

Had mine last year, rather late at 55. It was surprisingly amusing.

The waiting room was full of other soon to be "initiates" to the procedure.. I had the devilish impulse to call out "I know exactly what's about to happen to all of you", but restrained myself. Particularly as I was about to have the same thing done to me.:twitchy:

I'm vertically challenged and could have used the hospital gown for a parachute. Had to hold the bloody thing together to avoid a "wardrobe malfunction" in front of everybody while walking toware the guerney.

As they wheeled me in to the "station", there was some horrible, magnified crenulated thing showing on the monitor that looked like the worst sort of diseased tissue. "Oh, that's a towel that we left the probe on."

The aenesthesiologist asked me what my profession was. "Oh, I'm a ..... Wow, that stuff works fast!. [out].

I notice no-one has mentioned a prostate exam.

You're lucky. I'm 53 and going in for my 4th one this fall. They always seem to find something growing in there.

Guy gets wheeled in to the exam room, GI doc gets ready to do the exam, says to the nurse, "Look. the perfect a-hole:, patient rolls over and says," GI docs, A-holes looking at a-holes":lol:

Had on a while back and did not like it one bit.Want do another one again.

When my instructor told me I was going to get in 18 holes a day, I thought I was signing up for golf lessons.
