Root canal no problem they have become routine, I was riding last week and my front bridge broke (long story) called my dentist and he had me out with a temp in no time, then yesterday was out for a ride with the wife and she had some Rollo's so I take one and one bite and one of my crowns come off. It's been an expensive week, hopefully can get in tomorrow to get the crown fixed.

OK, so Thursday would have been a few days ago. How'd it go?
I am between temporary-crown and permanent crown in a root canal procedure on a front tooth. I've had several other root canals, and they have never been as painful after the first drilling as before they were drilled out. One problem is that if you're temperature-sensitive there might still be an infection around the root - my dentists have usually shot me full of novocaine, cleared everything down to the bottom of the root (no nerve, no more pain), put antibiotics in there, sealed things up for a week or two while I took oral antibiotics to totally kill any infection. Hope you mentioned the sensitivity, since the dentist might have altered his process on that basis.

1985, 31 year old. Brit teeth - not good. Eastern Sumatra, oil camp - building a training centre - starting with cutting bamboo with a chain saw powered by a Honda generator that I'd smuggled in a cigarette boat across the Malacca Strait from Singapore, to build the walls. Curriculum stuff came later!
Little gum lump. Turned into a big gum lump, like a golf ball - clearly visible to others. No little thing. Helevac to PekanBaru - not the biggest town or most equipped dental faculty, but I was under the care of the specialist.
Dark. No power. No steriliser. Drill bits sterilised in a gas flame beside the chair. No power drill. No anaesthetic. Drill bit powered by a treadle, like your grannies sewing machine.
"Please to relax now, because many are screaming which makes difficulty", as she dug in to the root.
Oh, and I've still got the snapped off drill bit up there somewhere.
You know, I've never had the slightest fear of dentistry since. The worst anyone has done to me since feels like a ride in a Lexus - and I hope your experience will be just as easy!

How did it go? Overall, not too bad. I did have to get a second dose of Novocain, and was amazed at the length of the thing he was putting it my tooth, about an inch long(of course it looked a LOT longer). The temperature sensitivity is gone, but I still can't bite on the temporary filling. And I still don't know what the burning smell was.

had a bunch and they're not too bad...except for one....that one had 4 canals and only 3 were visible on the x-ray...consequently, when the dentist went to fill them he didn't use novacaine....boy did I see stars! when I told the dentist i could feel what he was doing he kept insisting i couldn't. he finally realized the problem and gave a good dose of novacaine, cleaned out that final canal and then when i went back had no problem. ;-)
