It is truly sad that the Mods/Admin could not have made an exception for the "Diegos". It was great humor without any malicious intent.

Good post, good forum. I returned to biking after a 30 years absence about 5 years ago. It was nice to find a place I could post a dumb question and know I would get friendly, smart answers. Still is.

I'd like to add one thing. I don't think it's wise to rush to judgement about another poster on the basis of one thread or even on a single post.
Several years ago I became absolutely livid at Denver based upon a single post. I realize today that my anger was based upon a misunderstanding and that Denver is, in fact, a good guy. It's certainly possible to disagree with another poster based upon a single post or thread. We aren't even supposed to agree about everything. Before forming an opinion about another poster, however, I think that it's good to hang around for long enough to consider the totality of their contributions. |

I've found 50+ to be a great source of knowledge, encouragement, and humor.
Where else can one get genuine congratulations and encouragement for one's first 10-mile ride or an honest answer to an honest question. |

. This is a good place, indeed. |
I haven't been around that long to make any judgement so I don't see anything wrong with it. One thing that is obvious is DnvrFox's leadership qualities. That is evident.
Sure, there are a lot of questions I'd like to ask but I don't knowing that they were probably asked at another time in the past. For that I try to look it up. |

The diegos go back a long way. They were being phased out as I was getting started (Jan 06). Never sure why the moderators put the kybosh on them.

OK, OK. Group hug.
Now, get off my lawn. Darn kids. |
Stay out of my way at the buffet and we'll get along just fine.

50+ lost a lot when it lost the Diegos. It's still a good sub forum with a core group with an incredible base of bike knowledge. There are a few bossy old cows, but that's the way of the world.
BTW, I think DnvrFox is getting younger the longer he's here. At least less self important. But still, prefacing every other post with "When I started this forum..." is long past its date of expiry. |

Boy, big difference of opinion on that one. All of the self absorbed posting by the Diegos is why I left here for a long time. The whole "pie" thing got very stale after a while too. If a handful of you people want to play inside baseball with each other, you should realize that a LOT of other people will just tune out.
I found myself going for days without even reading the forum after the Diegos took over. |
The Diegos were cool. Anyone who says otherwise probably votes Republican.

Hmmm.. I'm combatant by nature but I'll try to behave. Now that I've turned 50 (in body not mind), I'm a much kinder, gentler sort. :roflmao2:
Nice to find another place to contribute and all kidding aside, I really do tire of the tit for tat on some of these. |

It sometimes helps to recognize that in addition to the occasional troll post, other people have personalities that have been described as "high conflict," interacting in the mode s/he has refined over years, that seemingly works for that person's needs, and is successful often enough to condition repeat uses. Both varieties of negative interactivity are inevitable in social discussion, given a large enough population engaged in communication; a helpful response may be to recognize early and not participate, or drop out without having to give the last word, depriving the stimulus that would feed an extended exchange. There's nothing worse for some people than to be ignored; ignored regularly, they will look for validation elsewhere. In other innocuous instances it may be difficult for a recipient to parse non-malicious humor if s/he feels s/he has publicly been called a name. (Won't be as much a problem when online forums eventually transition to video threading.) TRENTINO What I called you... Why, what did I call you? GROUCHO I don't remember. TRENTINO (With a little chuckle) Oh -- you mean... worm? GROUCHO (Smiling coyly) No, that wasn't it... TRENTINO Was it -- swine? GROUCHO (Same attitude as above) No... it was a seven letter word. TRENTINO (Thinking, then with a broad smile) Oh yes! -- UPSTART! GROUCHO That's it... Takes gloves from Trentino's breast pocket and socks him across the face... and puts them in his own breast pocket. Trentino becomes apoplectic TRENTINO (Spluttering and stuttering) Why - er - Mrs. Teasdale - this is an outrage! This man is impossible... My course is clear... this means war... (Turns to go and turns and yells to Groucho) You RUNT! GROUCHO I still like UPSTART the best. |
I'm just happy there are enough of us 50+ riders that we can utilize a sub-forum like this one! Most of the time, I enjoy being thought of as a bit of a mutant, but it helps to know I'm not the only one.
