Five double centuries. Really.

I may never do anything like this again, so I'm posting — and sharing — while I can.

I just finished my fifth double century this season. It was all in pursuit of the California Triple Crown 1000 mile club jersey. I'm like the grade school kid who would do anything for that gold star.

My last double was Saturday's 10.09.2010 Bass Lake Powerhouse Double out of Clovis CA (just outside Fresno.)

I've never been athletic. I never played a sport in school. I'm slow as slow. So for me this is a huge flippin' deal. I didn't ride fast, but I finished them all, and now I'm looking forward to the jersey.

If you don't mind some blog shill, here's my ride report with photos from Bass Lake:
https://ccorlew.blogspot.com/2010/10/...e-century.html

Here's my Knoxville (out of Vacaville CA) report. I'm rather proud of the writeup and photos.
https://ccorlew.blogspot.com/2010/09/...mmary-202.html

The other rides, Hemet, Davis and Solvang are on the blog as well.

Wow, congratulations! That's an amazing achievement. My tentative goal for next year is to do my *first* double century, ever, so I guess I have a ways to go.

Great job Curtis! Good to see you out there on the CA Triple Crown events this year.

Hopefully you and Lance Oldstrong will be riding doubles with us for many years to come.

Did you volunteer at one double so you can get the "Gold" Thousand Mile Club jersey?

Oh yes, we did volunteered the Mt. Tam Double, and it was GREAT. Those folks used our time and effort well, and were a great organization to work for.

We even did their volunteers ride century. Check the video in post. It's pretty funny, if i do say so myself.

Congratulations Curtis.

At 68 I have no aspirations of double centuries - but have been seriously considering attempting a Double Pie Ride.

Curtis, Congrats and that is a BFD. IMO, this is exactly the place to share such a great accomplishment because we all know how hard that is to do and the perseverance required to complete the 5 rides. Sometimes it takes a little longer to find that hidden great athlete inside. I am so happy for you.

t4mv: Glad i didn't stop at three? I'm still amazed. I can hardly wait for the gold star... I mean jersey.

Hermes: That hidden athlete is still pretty hidden, but I must admit I fell like I've done something.

oilman_15106: Yep, the root canal takes less time and may hurt less, but I'm thinking my recovery is quicker, and I paid less. Wait... Is there a jersey for dental work? Hummmm.

CHAS:
I'm 58, felt 158 after the ride, and about 17 today. (I played tennis and... well, there's no other way to say it.. kicked ass. I think I was relaxed from all the riding.)

Louis: Double pie ride? Was that an option? DAMN. I should have been told in advance.

Congratulations! You are inspiring me ... I used to do a lot of doubles but there are no organized ones within 2,400 miles of open ocean from where I live but I've been working on putting together some routes here on O'ahu ... I think I'll target January 1 for doing the first one and maybe I can manage 5 in 2011.
