any one have issues with their toes in the winter? It seems mine have a tendency to overlap each other, not every toe but two on each foot, gets cold quick, and is very painful. This only happens in the colder months.Yes my shoes are wide.Plenty of room.

bnelson, I'll wear two pairs of socks. An insulated pair over regular cycling pair. Booties might help, but I've never tried them.

Do your toes overlap only in the winter? What is the temperature when this happens? Have you noticed if your toes have turned color at these times? This is by no means a diagnosis, but it sounds like the pain could be reduced circulation triggered by the cold. I suggest you see a doctor.

There are a few things that are very important such as:
-keep the toes separated, even with lambs wool
-keep the feet as warm as possible (avoiding cold)
To cycle then, use every trick in the book:
-2 chemical Toe Warmer packs per foot-1 above and 1 below your toes.
-sock liner with winter sock over (all breathable)
-winter cycling boots or neoprene boot shoe cover
-legs should have 2 layers of warmth as well

Sounds a bit like chilbains. Keep them warm but, counter intuitively, don't warm them up rapidly when they are cold. My wife suffers from these, probably as a result of long-undiagnosed celiac's disease. Bare Feet has the right idea: see a physician (or two or three, until you find one who can help).

Hammer toes are a separate issue. CVS even has pads and different things to try for them.

The dark purple color though is very concerning, as it is a clear sign of a serious circulation problem. And the extreme pain is your warning signal. There could be a medical condition responsible for this, in addition to cold weather, so a trip to your GP/Internist is warranted.

In the meantime, you should monitor the temperature and your reaction to it. Learn your 'toes' cold tolerance, and don't go out when it's below that.

You can thank me later. Real winter cycling shoes/boots will be the best money you ever spent. General rule of thumb is get one size bigger than your summer shoes to accommodate thicker socks.

Excuse me but as was said above: "His toes are turning purple" I don't know about anyone else but if my toes were turning purple I would get my butt to the Dr. and not wonder if a second pair of socks might do the trick.

Have you tried the booties to insulate your boots. Just a thought.
